What's the worst job you ever had?

  • gorocks99
I didn't do it for long but when I was much younger I went to help on a strawberry farm picking strawberries, and was paid by the quart. That shit is ... shitty.

So what about you, worst job you've ever had - and any funny stories about it?

Worst job was my first job. Dishwasher at an amish restaurant. Thick, hearty meals that most people couldn't finish. Fuck that.

When I was 18 and starting college I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch for 6 months. That place fucking sucked; when I quit they said I could stay on and work 1 day every few weeks to keep my discount and I said it wasn't worth it.

I have this vision of you using a water pump to wash dishes while a guy named Yoder criticizes your shitty English dishwashing skills.

I worked at Target for a few months and it was pretty terrible. Lots of management types who thought they were hot shit making $15/hr .

Though, I can say that I've never really had a job I enjoyed. I'm constantly looking for new work.

Worked at Target in high school, can confirm dickishness of supervisors

At the risk of being a little serious, I hope you find something that you like. Life is too short to be unhappy for the percentage of your time that you spend working.

I make decent money, just got a raise and a bonus, but I still hate what I do.

I have an interview tomorrow, so we'll see where that goes.

My first job was picking green beens. I had to ride my bike 5 miles to get there, picked green beens until my back couldn't take it anymore and then ride my bike 5 miles back home. We also got paid by volume. (I can't remember if it was by the quart or by the pound) There was a little asian lady who picked circles around me and it always pissed me off.

My second job was as a dishwasher in an amish restaurant. It didn't pay shit and the work sucked but we had a lot of fun.

I worked at Walmart briefly in college. The management defined incompetence.

Cutting tobacco on a farm. Hot, sweaty and making $1.00 an hour.

I had few other jobs that most would probably consider shitty but I loved them.

    1. Roustabout for an oil company in Zanesville. I showed up at work and was sent with whichever guy needed help that day. Jobs ranged from painting oil tanks/pump jacks to burying thousands of feet of oil/gas lines.

    2. Worked a summer for a pipe rehabilitation company out of Lancaster. The entire summer was spent driving back and forth to Boston to rehab their 24" and 36" natural gas pipelines from the inside. I basically spent the entire summer under Boston crawling around sealing 100 year old pipe joints that were starting to degrade.

    3. Worked a summer and a few breaks for an old guy from Mansfield painting oil tanks and pump jacks between Bradford, PA and Athens. Honestly, I wouldn't mind starting up a similar company myself and doing it full time. The amount of money I took home depended on how much we got painted so I busted my ass for the summer and made damn good money.

1991 summer job 19 years old working for columbia gas..painted a chain 7 ft high link fence about 1 square mile long w aluminum paint. with rollers at that. me on one side and my buddy on the other. 100 degrees and covered head to toe in aluminum paint everyday because the paint suit was too hot. when we finished that we dug ditches and such.

it was however at the time my highest paying job ever at like 11.88 an hour so i was pretty stoked and didnt complain and they gave us our own truck to drive around in

I think any big-name department store probably has incompetent managers.

You get what you pay for

Was a dishwasher/busser at Outback. Wasn't the worst. The management changed at the end and it really sucked.
Did HVAC for a summer. Was basically the bitch. Had to work a complex that was infested with roaches. Also had to crawl through a very small crawlspace that nobody had been in, probably ever. I don't know what was in there and I don't ever want to know. Very disgusting.
Worked at Steak 'n' Shake for a long time through college. Would always come back during breaks. Management changed and they sucked, but I stuck with the job because nobody else was going to hire a seasonal college kid and pay me as much as I was making serving there. The personnel went from a lot of college kids to a lot of high school kids. I went from being one of the younger guys(19 or 20) to being one of the oldest(23). It became unbearable.

My first and worst job was busser (and also did dishwashing work) at Outback. Reminded me why I was going to college.

Also had a summer job for a small business crimping cables. It was good pay for a college student, but it was so damn boring. I worked with a bunch of rednecks who I had nothing in common with, and they played country music alllllll day. It was horrible.

Mine would be Alliance Castings. That job was terrible. Hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Worked in the core room and all that sand would just stick to you

    Fuck. That.

I worked for the Cummins traveling tool shows. You had to take a Greyhound bus to meet up with your crew, then you had to take a Greyhound back home. They paid you for 10 hours a day, 1 hour to setup, 8 hour show, 1 hour to tear down. Problem was, there was no way you could setup or tear down in 1 hour, so we ended up working 12-15 hour days, longer if the restocking truck didn't show up at a decent time in the morning. Also, most of the other people that worked there were former convicts or fugitives. It was 15 days on, and 15 days off, but usually 2-4 of your off days were spent traveling to meet up with your crew. Finished one run in the UP of Michigan, and was on a Greyhound for 22 hours straight to get home.

It was a pretty sweet gig. It was even back when I was fat and wasn't a big problem. I bet I'd enjoy it even more now that I'm about 50 lbs lighter.

I hated just going 4 feet into the pipes when they were still new and above ground. I couldn't imagine going that far in, in a 50 year old pipe, still buried underground.

I worked in a feed mill right out of high school. It was horrible.
  • Automatik
Commercial debt collector, call center. It was so terrible.

I've been called every insult in the book....and then some.

100 years old. And some of the runs were a quarter mile long.
