Should guns be legal?

  • rydawg5
Simple question- want to see where most vote.
  • mcburg93
I voted yes but not fully automatic guns. I dont believe any semi auto gun should be banned. Imo its not going to change anything. If people want to kill people they can buy black market guns.
  • Fred Garvin
I voted yes- but not fully automatic. I might be persuaded to change that to include assault rifles, but I have seen too many definitions of "assault weapon". The term gets used very loosely.

FYI- I own multiple guns (rifles, shotguns, and handguns, and am not done purchasing).

    Only hunting guns for me.
  • O-Trap
I'm okay with allowing any type of gun, really, though this isn't as hot a topic for me as it is for a lot of people.

    Yes, guns should be legal.

Criminals would have such an unfair advantage it's unreal knowing people can't defend themselves. But come on, this is America, we're the most independent and free country in the world, no way could they ever be made illegal. If the government tried a rebellion would definitely happen, no doubt about it

Reminds me of a flight I was on one time. The guy sitting next to me ended up being a former member of the KGB (started the convo by asking about his passport). I asked him why the Soviets never invaded the US, and he told me that it was because our civilians were armed in addition to our military. His exact words were, "Why? All your people have guns!"

There's no such thing as former KGB. If he were really KGB, you'd be dead :D

    LOL

Someone knows things that arouse more questions than answers.

Yes, all guns. Your poll is using the media misinformation terminology, I see. Full auto IS an assault weapon. They are already class III. Semi-automatic firearms ARE NOT assault weapons. Just because they look dangerous, they are no different from the rifles used in WWII. One pull of the trigger, one shot. That's it. I hate the way the media has labeled ARs and AKs as "assault" weapons just because they look deadly and everyone now calls them that.

    M1 Garand, 1st semi-automatic rifle ever used.

    Bushmaster AR-15, semi-automatic rifle.

Absolutely NO difference in the way both guns shoot, yet no one would look at a Garand and call it an "assault" weapon. Just because the AR is black, polymer, and has a large magazine it's more deadly? Pure media bullshit.

    Isn't the M1 a .30 caliber vs the ar which is .223?
  • tk421
different caliber, but they both shoot the exact same way. Both semi-auto. So, is it caliber that makes something an "assault" weapon then?

    What's the magazine size?
  • tk421
what difference does it make? You can kill someone just as well with a 10 round magazine as opposed to a 30 round one. The media acts like no one with 10 rounds is a danger. It takes 2 seconds to reload.

Oh I agree, but I can see the difference between being able to kill 3-5 people before reloading and 9-15 people before reloading. One would indeed seem more ideal for a spree.

The problem, well one of them, that I have with banning "assault" rifles is that it sets a dangerous precedent. I think we can all agree that banning these rifles will do nothing to stop these terrible acts, so next time when someone uses a handgun or revolver or something else, it's just another thing for them to ban and now we have precedent to do it. Pretty soon all guns are banned. Slippery slope.

I voted no guns. but I think hunting is stupid though. I don't see the "sport" in shooting a deer from 100 yds away with a high powered rifle.
  • tk421
I'm not a hunter either, but that's no reason to get rid of guns. It's fun and a good sport to get into. This is more my speed hunting deer.

Of course and it shall not be infringed upon.

Quoting the second amendment is a weak argument - blacks were property back then and women had zero rights. It needs to evolve.

I think there should be a medical and full mental illness background check when you buy a gun too. I think they should limit the amount and types of weapons you should be allowed to keep in your home. If you have a large collection then it should be stored at a gun store/range that has the proper safety to lock up large amounts of weapons. No reason to have an arsenal in your home, especially with a mental fuck up of a kid.

Hand gun for protection and concealed carry and a hunting rifle if you hunt. Seems like overkill to own guns with the same technology the military uses.

Lol at Assault weapon. Not you, just the term assault weapon. Banning things by how they look is stupid. A shotgun or hunting rifle is more dangerous. But the media likes to build up buzz and "assault weapon" sounds scary.

Technology the military uses? Like night vision and heat seeking missiles?

    ...
Is it O.K. to refer to these more recent court cases?

In 2008 and 2010, the Supreme Court issued two landmark decisions concerning the Second Amendment. In District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia.

It's part of the evolution you refer to.

Do you need a gas operated select fire rifle? Just wondering...
