Select fire? That is already regulated by NFA. gas operated, do you even know what that means? -

"Guns are good because they provide the ultimate self-defense? While I’m sure some people believe that having a gun at their bedside will make them safer, they are wrong. This is not my opinion, and it’s not a political or controversial statement. It is a fact. Guns kept in the home for self-protection are 43 times more likely to kill a family member, friend or acquaintance than to kill an intruder, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Guns on the street make us less safe. For every justifiable handgun homicide, there are more than 50 handgun murders, according to the FBI." -
Scarlet_BuckeyeThe problem with this society is not guns.....the problem is the breakdown of THE FAMILY. We have far too many baby mommies with 7 different baby daddies whom neither one is "raising" their kids in a loving home / family type environment. Also, don't pawn your kids off on day care for the majority of their day and spend 5 minutes with them. If you have children raise them........Love your children, teach them right from wrong, teach them ethics, teach them manners, teach them respect, teach them the Golden Rule, teach them what a nuturing FAMILY is all about.........THAT will go a long way to solving our society's problems.

OSHI love guns. I wish I could shoot more.
Keep them all here. No bans. Ban stupid people instead. -

Not to nitpick, but this sounds like a statement against gun ownership that is being based on a lack of proper safety or use.Commander of Awesome;1347097 wrote:You got my vote.

Equivalent to saying that toothpicks cause more harm than good because people have been stabbing themselves in the eye while juggling them. How they are being used is more a problem than the fact that they are used. The inanimate object itself poses no threat to anyone. -
thavoiceThe one thing we learn about history is this.........that mankind is inherently violent.
Always has been.
Always will be.
We will always see violence in this world.
The people who commit these acts know that they will die. Whether it is by suicide after killing everyone, by the cops who respond, or by the death penalty. EVEN KNOWING THEY WILL DIE they still go on with it. If KNOWING you will die doesnt deter them, nothing will and they will find the ways to do what they do.
Many people in our area at an early age teach their kids how to handle weapons. They go shooting out in the woods, hunting at the earliest possible age they are allowed. The general concensus is that the people who grew up around guns tend to be more responsible with them.
Should be ban guns? No F'n way. Even today we see govts around the world using weapons on their own people. While I doubt it would happen here in the US we are still a nation that believes we have the right to bare arms because of history with the british.
I can see some limits placed on them, but in reality it wont do much good. As they say, if you outlaw weapons, only the outlaws will have them.
There are alot of sick fucks out there. The mental health of people seems to be worsening and worsening and that is the true problem in America.
Remember back in the day people thought rock and roll brought on evil to kids. Now it is video games and movies. I do think the violence that kids seem to play on their games desensitizes violence to them. Doesnt mean everyone who grew up playing them alot will be messed up, but it sure doesnt help. I think how the internet/email/txt/fb/im helps facilitate pedofiles and women teachers diddling their students, I think violent video games do contribute some to the mindset of those kids already predisposed from some sick twisted mind to act out. -

TiernanFBI estimates there are over 220 miillion firearms owned by private Americans today. That's almost 1 per citizen. In other words the cows have left the barn people. No way any authority is gonna round up all those guns. The answer is to quit being so PC with mental health issues. Some people are just bat shit crazy and its time to call them out on it.
We love to "kid glove" the weird psycho kid that may or may not have been "bullied"...well if one of those is your neighbor, you need to let some designated authority know about it. And then that authority needs to be periodically checking up on Charlie Manson Jr. and letting him know he's being watched. It works for child predators and it could work here too. -

Who gets to determine who the weirdos are? Do you think someone might not seek help (that could actually help them) if they were afraid it would get them labelled as a weirdo? Can we get special patches they can sew on their clothes so I know when I'm standing by a weirdo? Would it be better if we had special "camps" where we could round them all up? That way we wouldn't have to interact with them or worry about getting their "weirdoness" on us.Tiernan;1347189 wrote:We love to "kid glove" the weird psycho kid that may or may not have been "bullied"...well if one of those is your neighbor, you need to let some designated authority know about it. You just lost all credibility, guns like an AR-15 is not even CLOSE to the actual gun(s) that the military uses.Raw Dawgin' it;1347057 wrote:Quoting the second amendment is a weak argument - blacks were property back then and women had zero rights. It needs to evolve.
I think there should be a medical and full mental illness background check when you buy a gun too. I think they should limit the amount and types of weapons you should be allowed to keep in your home. If you have a large collection then it should be stored at a gun store/range that has the proper safety to lock up large amounts of weapons. No reason to have an arsenal in your home, especially with a mental **** up of a kid.
Hand gun for protection and concealed carry and a hunting rifle if you hunt. Seems like overkill to own guns with the same technology the military uses.
But hey, lets let the liberal media decide what is an "assault rifle" instead of what is actually an assault rifle. -

Profiling? yes. Harassing? no. How is it harassing to have a trained mental health adminsitrator stopping by occasionally to see how things are going with a child who has demonstrated anti-social behaviors? Honest question - does anyone need a semi automatic rifle? You don't NEED a gun. I'm not saying ban guns, but there should be more restrictions on what you can own. Do you need anything bigger than a 9mm? Probably not. Do you need a semi-auto rifle to hunt?
This is no different than when a muslim suicide bombs a place and people call all muslims terrorists. I know sane legal gun owners aren't going to shoot up a mall or a school - but do you really need a gun? And would it really be that bad if the government put restrictions on the types or amount of weapons you could own? -

When they do background checks for guns, they should be able to check if you've been treated for mental health issues and what prescription drugs you take.thavoice;1347201 wrote:OK now after hiring tens of thousands of MH workers to do this whom is going to pay for it? And even that wont stop it. -

Is that even possible? Is there a database for those treated for mental health issues?Raw Dawgin' it;1347207 wrote:When they do background checks for guns, they should be able to check if you've been treated for mental health issues and what prescription drugs you take.
Would that be just those treated or who sought professional help for some issues?
Or those who have been arrested and had mental health counseling/treatment?
I would even go so far to say that if there would become a database for those who were treated for mental health issues that it could keep some people from seeking help because they dont want to be on that list at all.
It is like seeking help in the military for mental health issues. There are tons and tons of resources for it and it gets hammered home alot to the troops. BUt they also know that if they do seek help and that professional hears the wrong things they will get red flagged. Once you get red flagged you are pretty much FUBAR and it will take more than a year to get off of that. That alone keeps people from seeking help because many dont want to get that attached to them.
Even if what you stated can be done.......it would not have stopped this at all and wouldnt stop other nutjobs to get weapons. -

Never said it would - but do you want a mental fuck up like this idiot to be able to buy a gun if he has a clean record? I don't. If you take anti psychotics you shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. No reason his mother should have given him access to weapons, he was a crazy self mutilator who lived with a dipshit free loading parent. I also believe a crazy loser like him would've hurt people either way. I don't have access to a gun, but if i really wanted to hurt people nothing is going to stop me from it.thavoice;1347217 wrote:Is that even possible? I have an ar15 I use to varmint hunt with. Its lighter than my .223 rifle I used to hunt with. I could not hunt coyotes, ground hogs, or fox with out it. If I used a 9mm I would never get close enough to kill one of these animals. So yes I have many different types of guns for different type of hunting. I have bought other guns for investments as well.Raw Dawgin' it;1347206 wrote:derp derp dems taking our guns away derp derp.
