He wasnt even there. If your gonna criticize the dude and hate him (for apparently ALL the wrong reasons) at least know the facts.

Clapton was in NY on vacation. Conor was with his mom (who Clapton no longer was with) at her apartment. Maid cleaned the window and left it open. Conor was in the apartment and when the maid opened the door to the room Conor ran past and somehow out the window. The mom and I think 2 maids were in the apartment. Clapton was NOT. He had nothing to do with it and was pretty upset about the whole thing, obviously. EC only arrived after police contacted him...

    Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd

Had a best friend who developed drug problems in college, became schizofrenic and committed suicide this year. I guess the song sadly became very personal even though it was already my favorite. I also like the Sound of Silence a lot

Lolwut? Know what you're talking about. Plus, many of the greatest songs ever were written because of something that the writer experienced.

Edit: Laley beat me to it.

Ironically, Clapton only wrote the first verse. I believe he had Will Jennings write the rest.

Clapton you his talent to honor his son.
Then he made multiple public service announcements to raise awareness for childproofing windows and staircases to try to protect other children.
  • Laley23
Clapton stopped singing My Fathers Eyes and Tears in Heaven about 10 years ago because the emotion he felt for them was gone. Said he didnt want it to come back because the coping was so hard and took nearly 15 years to get over in the first place.

I guess that I would "make multiple public service announcements to raise awareness for childproofing windows and staircases to try to protect other children" after you let your child fall out a window, it's only the right thing to do.!!!!!

There or not isn't the question. Leaving your child with those that can't, and making $ off the song is the point. And don't tell me he never made $ off of that song.

    Either way that song sucks.

Yes, lets blame Eric Clapton for leaving his son with the kids freaking MOTHER! You cannot be serious right now lol.

If he trusted/loved her that much, don't you think they would have been together?

Or was EC out making $ when this happened? I don't know.

As has been shown he was not responsible for the child's death. But took positive action to immortalize his son and to prevent the tragedy from happening to others. It is sad that some are so dead in their soul that they can not appreciate the artistry and honest emotion of the song.

It's funny that he didn't have that "artistry and honest emotion" about other kids who had died prior to his kid.

Probably not. He was married at the time of his affair. Tough to be with a woman and your wife...though I suppose when he got his divorce he could have gone back to her.

I probably shouldnt have told you that, but at least you have actual ammunition to hate the guy now. He is an adulterer.

of course not, he had about the worst personal loss an individual can have, that of a child. He expressed his feeling about that loss in a way most reflective of his talents.

Fuckin' Alan Jackson, Springsteen, Five For Fighting. What assholes for making money off songs they wrote about 9/11. Coldplay with Katrina. List goes on and on.

Children died. Regardless, Tears In Heaven is a song written from tragedy, just like the 9/11 and Katrina songs.

Thus, you finally agree that he made $ based upon his child's death. He could have "expressed his feeling about that loss in a way most reflective of his talents" without making $ for it.

That sir, or maam, rubs me to most extreme wrong way.

Yes, I'm sure he sat down and said "I wonder how I can make money off my son's death."

    Smh.
