  True, probably not dealing with really savvy business eople. Isn't it always the case that these stiffs overvalue themselves? Jersey Shore had some contentious battles over pay, but unlike Jersey Shore the cast is not really the stars of shows like Storage Wars, at least not these guys.
  
  I don't know how big a "mogul" Hester really is - I can't see even two large thrift stores throwing off a ton, but let's say in good years he could have potentially pulled in $150k.
  
  But Brandy and her husband I'd think struggled to pull in $50k from their store. And they are going to bitch about $850k a year from this show. Just too funny.

  WOnder what ratings storage wars texas gets. I have tried to watch it a couple of times but just cannot get into it at all.
  Maybe the two purchases they made for brandi keeps me tuning in a bit!
  
  I think everyone realizes they stage some of this stuff. I cannot imagine how many storage units one would have to buy before they found some good enough stuff to actually put on a show. Probably would take too long!

  I only ever watched maybe a dozen episodes. Once the novelty wears off, the characters really aren't compelling (show isn't set-up like that). Shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers, and others, are far superior for the rare treasure while also giving you some interesting background and history.

  Teh background and history of the items is what keeps me interested in a show like Pawn stars. Even though many are plants, and have read how they use actors at times to come in with items (which I believe because no one seems a little nervous being on camera which in real life would happen) and that he doesnt know all that stuff before researching it....still makes for interesting stuff.
  The cajun pawn stars..just isnt the same and not interesting for whatever reason.
  
  Hardcore Pawn is a joke of a show. Too much yelling and confrontation on that show to be interesting for more than a few minutes.
  
  How about Shipping Wars? I admit when they were first advertising it I thought it was gonna be extremely stupid. It isnt too bad, again..probably because taht one woman on there is smokin hot and also the new chick they added in. Def eye candy

  Yeah, don't think I ever watched Hardcore Pawn. Saw the Cajun one a few times and don't care for it.
  
  It is true that the personalities have a fair amount of impact on the show, at least with Pawnstars and American Pickers. But if you took Rick off of Pawnstars I doubt I'd continue to watch. But one might argue it's just as likely that the production crew is responsible for some of these shows being much more watchable than others.
  
  There's definitely a component of "acting", but I don't think they are that irreplaceable if you have a good production crew. Deadliest Catch is a great example.

  Shipping Wars is decent, but no way those people are that stupid in real life. Every load seems to be a fuck up. But then again, would a normal load be any entertainment?

  Ha. According to Dave Hester's claims....that would have been planted AND darrel wouldnt be able to sell it and had to give it back to the gallery that gave it to the producers

  How long before we get storage wars: celebrity edition. They get hot b and c level stars and let them bid on the different lockers. How about we watch Lindsey Lohan bidding on her own locker against Brooke Mueller. You would have to let the producers give them money to bid with since Lohan is broke. Brooke would probably bring some of her own extra cash thinking it might lead to finding some of Lohans drugs.

  Darrel there is no way he knows shit. I saw one episode where he pretends to know something - but c'mon you aren't finding art worth a damn in a locker, and I doubt he's done well enough to be a serious collector.

  Rick would be credible because before the show they did run that as a real business for a lot of years, and to be in business as a pawn broker for that long you need to know alot about alot not to be out of business quickly.

  True, but I'm dubious of just how much nice artwork comes into a pawn shop. I don't know, maybe it is a common pawn (not sale) for a variety of reasons. A lot of stuff people supposedly are selling on there - they must be morons because you figure he's gotta give you the wholesale and not the dealer price.

  We pretty much only see the selling of the stuff at the pawn shop but I think once they had on there how much stuff is actually pawn vs bought/sold. It was overwhelmingly pawn...i wanna say 70% or so.

  I am not a pawn shop location expert, but I am guessing that most pawn shops arent in the nice areas of town!

  I don't think it's awful (at least not in the past 15 years or so), but there are definitely pawn shops located closer to the Strip. Basically I think Fremont St Experience opened in 1995, and so the beefed up police presence really helped the area. Before that, yeah, shitty part of town. It's still right on Las Vegas Blvd, with a bunch of wedding chapels around there. But don't wander off the main blvd, and don't walk that area at night.
  
  And I don't know, but I read some people claiming that the shop was pretty much straight silver, gold, jewelery and watches before the show (maybe guns). When you look at the size of their display room, they couldn't have been moving much else. Decent storage, but I'd guess that's where the pawn stuff is held they aren't trying to sell.

  Don't think I've ever seen a pawn on that show. Probably a reason for it.
  
  I still don't picture nearly enough people with the money for the sort of art we are talking about falling on hard times and having to pawn or get fleeced on valuable works.

  I believe I saw at least one. It was a guy who had his semi tractor in for a pawn. Pretty sure he got the money and then they basically explained the whole pawning thing. Probably was the first season.
  
  On the cajun pawn stars I have seen one as well. A guy had some old bills, big time bills maybe like 10,000 that were low serial number or whatever it was. They were extremely valuable and he wanted to just pawn them to make payroll for his company. The guy offerend him a shittone of money to buy them and he declined it and I was surprised.
