Anyone Fail a College Class?
-
Ironman92I never failed but did have 2 D's over my 250 quarter hours. Funny enough they weren't very difficult (by title anyways) Algebra and Government! Lol The Government class I rarely went, thought I had a C and bombed a tough final to get a D. The Algebra class was taught by an 80 year old English dude and I thought I was going to fail. 2 quarters later I got a B in Calculus....but have no clue what that old guy was teaching.
Both were my freshman year...got my head out of my ass the rest of the way. -
hasbeenWent to Columbus State for winter quarter my freshmen year. If it snowed, I wasn't going to my 8am class. Psychology I think. Got a D+.

like_thatI nearly failed Italian. It was a requirement for my degree to take a language, and this was the 4th and final class I needed to take. I really didn't give a fuck about the class, so just as I did with my other Italian courses, I took the course pass/fail (you need a 70 or above to pass), because I didn't want my "not give a fuck" attitude to mess with my GPA. Needless to say I dicked around in the class and it was pretty much borderline whether I was going to pass it or not. The teacher was a cute grad student. I saw her at a bar one night, and I pretty much bought most of her drinks for the night and basically asked her to pass me. She promised she would pass me. I ended up passing the course, and I honestly think it is because of me seeing her at the bar. I know I did very poorly on that final exam.

ts1227I failed partial differential equations my junior year, had to retake it senior year and still only got a C. That class was a bitch.

Pick6I failed Intermediate Algebra with a D+. Was more concerned with banging a chick then going to that class.

Just walk into class smelling like sex, beer, and shame. -

Fail with a D+?
Did you have to get a C or above in certain classes? -

Anything below a C at Akron is failing, to my knowledge anyways..because thats the lowest grade I've had. 70% and higher passes.Ironman92;1339488 wrote:Fail with a D+?

OSHI failed one at my first undergrad school. It was a lab. It was so hard.
I am in the process of trying to get a course re-evaluated in the grading. I got scammed in the grading of a paper -- several of my classmates were stunned when they heard what I got. The professor was probably unhappy with my approach to the course. Probably one of the worst programs I've ever been a part of. The degree will add 3 letters after my name, but I've learned nothing. -

70 is a C? Maybe ours was too....been to long. Seems like our scale was 92-100, 83-91, 70-82, 60-69....I don't remember. I know at Wilmington my algebra was a 65 D- to scrape by. -

like_thatThis thread is already reminding me how much I do not miss worrying about shit like that anymore. Honestly I loved college, but being able to do whatever the fuck I want on weekends, more specifically sundays, without worrying about reading some fluffed bullshit in a textbook is great.

I'm not sure how we did it back when I went as the internet was in it's baby stages and no one knew anything of it. Research from encyclopedias and microfiche....prehistoric feeling.
I had some literature class that the professor spent the first 2 weeks talking about whether or not Adam and Eve had belly buttons. HATED those general classes. -

uh yea. I cant wait. The thing is, Im not even at the worst part yet. After I get my undergrad, I will be working full-time, taking grad classes part time (employer paying 75% of the cost) and preparing for the CPA exam. Really looking forward to get past that pointlike_that;1339498 wrote:This thread is already reminding me how much I do not miss worrying about shit like that anymore. Midstate01I failed psychology the first time. The professor was the toughest I've had. His tests were really hard. BUT, I also put forth very little effort.

Commander of Awesome
After freshman year I looked around and saw I had 2 textbooks with the plastic still on them. Other books I looked at only in passing. Quit buying the textbooks after that, one of my best college decisions. Only text books I bought after that were language workbooks.like_that;1339498 wrote: without worrying about reading some fluffed bullshit in a textbook is great. -
mhs95_06P Chem was very rough for many of us Chem Es. We took it in our Jr. year(1971-2), 3 qtrs plus a lab. The 1st qtr I really struggled and was happy to get a C. The key turned out to be to take feverish, meticulous notes in the intense lectures, then memorize them for the tests, were at night with an unlimited amount of time allowed. This was foreign to me as before that I would take sketchy notes and do my learning by paying close attention in class. I think the tests were at night so he didn't have to lose any of the hr classes each day to lecture. The prof would give 300 point tests, and maybe a week after we went through the drudgery of taking them, he'd come to class and say something like: the low was 23, the median 58, and the high 152(most of the class would then booooooooo!). One day he also said: " I've been accused of there being no relationship between the textbook, the lectures, the homework, the lab, and the tests. I do not deny that accusation!" (big round of boos). Spring break was an anxious time that year, and my grades came in the mail at home about 3 days before it was time to go back for spring qtr. I clearly remember the suspense as I opened the envelope and learned that I failed.
That put me having to pass the 2nd qtr and the 3rd qtr in my envisioned last two qtrs in school in winter and spring of my senior year(each class only offered once per year). My buddy made it through, and I borrowed his notebooks with his notes of the lectures. The classes were always at 8am. After going to class with the notes already I found that the material was identical and it didn't do me any good to listen to it and follow along in the notebook. I never had skipped classes before, but when I got a B on the first exam, and could see attendance not benefiting me, I started skipping classes and just studying the notes and going to take the tests. I got Bs from then on like clockwork for the 2nd and 3rd qtrs.
Grades for graduating seniors had to be turned in 2 weeks before the end of the quarter(remember this was when we used slide rules - calculators came in starting about my junior year and my first one cost $150 in 1972 dollars(probably over $1000 in today's dollars for a basic one that would be maybe $5-10 today). A B would have given me a final GPA of just over 3.0, and a C would give me a 2.99. The prof would not turn in a B for me, saying if I did on my final as I had on my clockwork scores, he'd send in a correction(after I already had my copy of my final transcript). I did get the B, but my copy says 2.99! -
Classyposter58Two. Comp 1 my freshman year and sociology. I'm an amazing writer, never gotten less than B growing up in English, but this guy just randomly gave grades. Somehow I got a 40/200 on a paper, and the College Writing Center even said this isn't a bad paper at all. Missed the drop day by one and got an F. Sociology had a brutally hard teacher who failed almost the entire class. Tests were easy, his papers were graded at a brutally difficult rate. Said fuck it and had my mom who has a masters write my big final in a $200 bet. She got a 58% and said yeah this was impossible

Midstate01Also, my failed class came during my time at OU just out of hs. I was NOT ready for college.
Now 10 years later, it's much much easier. Even with forgetting so much of the basics in math, science, some writing. -
gutNever failed a class, but I did have a few I REALLY struggled to get a "B" in.
