Anyone Fail a College Class?
-
sportchamppsI failed calculus 2 my freshmen year. The professor was Chinese and I couldn't understand anything he said. It took me like 6 weeks just to figure out he wasn't writing gibberish on the board but wrote his number either backwards or upside down. I took the same class the next quarter and made sure to pick the most English sounding name teaching the course and passed with a b+. luckily at ou they drop the grade from your gpa when you retake the course.
I also shoulda failed Hindu because I never went. The whole class was weird as shit including the professor. The professor actually got into a verbal fight with a student because the student wouldn't let him borrow the stick to reach the on switch on the tv. It was also graded on a curve that did me no good because a actual Hindu was in the class and always got like 98's. I only passed because the final was an essay in a blue book so I prewrote it the night before the final. -
Midstate01Oh and now I use ratemyprofessor.com
Which is awesome!! -
Ironman92I remember in Comp 1 we did a 2,000 word paper and after every part the professor corrected every mistake....even after the final draft.....but when I turned in the paper (in which he had edited everything) I got a C- because it had a comma splice. Turns out when he was in the Navy if a paper had a comma splice it was an immediate failure??? That splice gave me a C for the class and I had to take a PPST test because of that C.

dlazzThe only class I flunked was Algebra.
You're better off just withdrawing from the course instead of failing, but I was transferring and it was my last quarter.
The teacher was a pain in the ass, too. -
Benny The JetI had to take a science, so for some reason I chose Astronomy. It was a 7pm class on the other side of campus that started in January. Needless to say, I wasn't there often. Should have just dropped it.

Con_AlmaIf you are taking Algebra in college what level of math were you taking in high school?

justincredibleMy first semester sophomore year was an absolute abomination. I only failed one class, Calc 2, but my semester GPA was something like a 0.9. A couple Ds and maybe a C to go along with my F. Basically, I went to class maybe 40% of the time. Maybe. Changed majors and got my shit together immediately after that semester. Ended up retaking Calc 2 the next semester and got a B.
-
Raw Dawgin' itCame close - but cheated on the final to avoid the F. It was an open note final and every time the girl in front of me looked over to her notes she held her test up. It was stadium style seating so she was basically holding it right in my eye line. I wrote down the letters on the multiple choice on my note sheet then filled in my test. Got a B+ on the final and squeaked through with a D.

AutomatikI've never failed a course, but I did receive two Ws for bailing early. Failure was imminent though.
-
FatHobbitI was not always a good student and had to retake several classes. I'm not sure if I failed but had to retake all of the classes in my major with a grade of C or less.
The worst was when I broke up with my first serious girlfriend (5 years) and just fucked off for a year. I took 9 classes and only passed one. I probably should have dropped out but I'm not sure I would have gone back. -

I took Calculus in high school. Colleges dont go on what classes you take in high school, unless they are AP classes. They go by ACT scores and/or college placement tests. I went to Community College a year right out of high school and didnt take any math classes there, because I tested out with my ACT score. Transferring to Akron, since I was out of HS for a year, they wouldnt accept my ACT scores and I had to take a math placement test. Well, I havent took algebra since sophomore year of HS, so I was a little rusty.Con_Alma;1339612 wrote:If you are taking Algebra in college what level of math were you taking in high school?
I failed it because I didnt put forth the effort. Was pretty pissed that I failed, so grew up a bit, especially since I am paying for my school. Got an A in Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Calc. -
IliketurtlesI almost did but 9 others and I had to go to the dean of students to get a grade changed because another kid uploaded he work to the wrong place and a bunch of us clicked on his and the professor took it as cheating and gave us all 0's. Fucking hated that guy he was fired that summer so I was happy lol.

I guess so. Never really intended that. I'll take it though. It's all about the credentials [and who ya know], so, that's all I'm going for.Ironman92;1339496 wrote:Yeah...lol -

Thanks for the explanation. It kind of surprised me a little when I think about the classes kids in HS are taking. I appreciate your response.Pick6;1339630 wrote:I took Calculus in high school. gerb131Yes. Chemistry 2. With about a 38%. That's the only fail although I did wd from a math class.
-
rrfanI worked to hard to pay for my college so there is no way I would fail. Had to work my butt off for a few of the classes that could have been trouble. Never lower than a C.

Is this English? How did you even get into college?Iliketurtles;1339634 wrote:I almost did but 9 others and I had to go to the dean of students to get a grade changed because another kid uploaded he work to the wrong place and a bunch of us clicked on his and the professor took it as cheating and gave us all 0's. HereticNope, but came close a couple times with a couple D-s.
Both electives that didn't have to do with my major. One with Spanish 103. Went B-/C-/D- through the 100 series. Problem was that I took those my freshman year and didn't start out with any sense of how you had to study in college (one of those guys who could sleepwalk to a 3.5+ in high school, so I had horrible study habits), so I cruised to a B- in the easiest one and then got to the more advanced ones, I was lost because I was studying and learning the new words and concepts, but was horrible with the basics.
The other was a bizarre geography course that I just couldn't get into. Should have dumped it after the first day, but didn't want to find a replacement, so I would up horribly struggling for the quarter. -
sleeperI never failed any course but I did drop out of a Chemistry class after a week. I doubt I would have failed but my grade would have been terrible. Mostly I hated going to lab and doing stupid experiments like changing the color of liquids by adding some other chemical. Such a joke.

I don't know. Wish it was less than what I have [or will have]. Still waiting on that position that I've worked so hard to gain. Bummer.sleeper;1339655 wrote:How many letters do you need for a life? -
