I'm looking to purchase a hammr drill

  • cruiser_96
Anyone have a preference to brand?

I'm a Craftsman guy, but am willing to read others' opinions on Miluakee, Dewalt, etc.

Are they all the same, or are there little things that make a huge difference?

Also, not trying to go the EBay route. Would rather walk into a store and purchase on from the shelf.

ps: Or a hammEr drill!!!! Stupid!!!!!!! :banging head against brick wall emoticon:

Also: I found a 60" VIZIO LED, 1080dpi, 120Hz. I'm thinking about going with it.

Did Belly overtake your body this morning?
  • cruiser_96
    No.

I'm not really sure who he is... Wait! Is it Belly60 or something like that? Rails against liberals more often then not? Maybe I'm getting a couple of post-ers mixed up.

    Anywho, I'll look him up!

He was just giving you a hard time for all the typos. A belly tradition. :)

I have used Dewalt and never had a problem. I think Lowes has a sale on the 18volt hammer drill right now for $100.

    And it's Belly35! Got it!!!

And yes, he's been know to omit a few letters from time to time.

I saw an article last week on Yahoo that said renting may be the best option if you need to use a hammer drill.

That's like saying I'm a Chevy guy but I'm willing to try a BMW or a Lexus.

Do I want battery powered or one with a cord? I'm thinking I want a cord, but recognize the drawback of the inevitablity of it getting tangled up with something.

However, guaranteed power source! (I seriously doubt I'm hanging things if the electricity goes out!)

Battery powered power tools suck. Get corded.

Over the last few months, I see more and more projects that I'll need to be using one. Even if renting one is $35 for 4 hours, I could buy one in two to three projects. (ps: Who in the HECK is BUYING a post hole digger!?!?!?!?! My apologies if you have bought one!)

Battery has come a long way with power, but it's more for convenience. I'd get corded.

I guess the biggest question is what are you going to be using it for? That should help make a better decision. If its a big job and you will be using it a lot then get a corded model. If you are just using it around the house then a battery powered will work just fine.
  • cruiser_96
I was going with corded because it is a bit of a big project. A few upgrades on the wrestling room, and then a few more projects in my garage and basement. I'd hate to be in the middle of a project and then need to charge the battery. And I'm not trying to lug around two batteries!

And yes, I'm the guy who wanted peanut butter and jelly in the same jar! Heck, put some crutons in there and have a sandwich! Why not put it in a squeeze jar!?!?!?!

I have a couple Milwaukee's for hand drills but Dewalt for hammer drill. Milwaukee, Dewalt, or Bosch is all I'd trust.

Get a warranty and remember save big money if you can't find it at Menards.
  • cruiser_96
gerb: Thanks for getting THAT jingle stuck in my head!!!

I've been looking through some reviews and then some power tool prices... I'm not anti-Bosch or Dewalt. As a matter of fact, I'm sort of leaning (now) towards Dewalt.

I just want to make sure I don't walk in, buy something, and then mention to some friends - or on here - and get ridiculed for buying it. I'd rather be informed about the purchase. And from what I can tell, you guys get it.

Get the best bang for the buck, but also get quality.

You get what you pay for. I learned that many times before it sunk in to my thick skull.

Ding, ding, ding!!! I learned that when buying effects pedal for my electric guitar. Bought some hokie Wah pedal. The thing broke after three gigs. $60 down the drain and the "real thing" was only like $80. Crap-tastic I tell ya!

Neighbor of mine is a commercial plumber and he can't stop raving about his new Milwaukee cordless Hammer drill. I'll text him for the model #
  • cruiser_96
Please do. I haven't seen a Miluakee cordless in all my lookings.

    It's the M18 Fuel 2604-22.

I&#8217;m a Craftsman tool guy also and I stick to what I know is proven, dependable and spend a little more to get the best of the Craftsman product. I&#8217;ve been known to buy both types at some point. I would also for this product go with the cord style Hammr Drill. :D</SPAN>
