I've seen punches thrown during XC races and runners are allowed to wear weapons on their feet. Runners can do some damage with spikes.
As for people getting paralyzed at a sporting event, I've witnessed that twice in track.
Was also in a race where another runner split his knee cap in two after not making it over a barricade in the steeple chase.

That's what you called grasping for straws.

Interesting that the sport which most consider the "hardest" is also the easiest to be a state placer.

Also funny XC is considered less of a sport because kids are not getting paralyzed.

So easy that you placed right? Please refer to my analogy again. I still don't think you comprehend that.

To be fair though, I hate how try place the top 8 now. I don't consider anybody below 6th place a state placer.

Thank you. Going back to the point of Ohio having divisions and also considering multiple weight classes only a few pounds apart. If you win two or three matches you are guaranteed a state placement. I hate to say it but the OHSAA state wrestling meet is really watered down especially the first few rounds. Sure, you get an upset here and there, somebody gets "caught" but that's just the luck part of wrestling.

No way to prove XC is "harder" than wrestling. All I'm saying is, it's obviously easier to be a state placer in wrestling than XC.

It's a matter of making money for the OHSAA, thus why I think the OHSAA should go to 2 divisions 24 man brackets. You will still have the same amount of participants as the 3 division format.

What ya think of the new state duals being added?

Yes, running is so punishing and physically demanding that it is the preferred form of exerise for millions of Americans. But be careful out there - some people take their running VERY seriously.

That's a good point. If it's so hard (harder than pro athletes apparently), how are so many normal Joe's able to participate and enjoy the sport?

Seems everyone is discussing different types of running in this thread. I've been specifically talking about the difficulty of being considered a good runner vs. being considered a good wrestler and using the OHSAA state finals as an example.

I don't think anyone in this thread believes the "normal joe" who waddles a half marathon works harder than a pro athlete.

ccrunner does. He thinks cross country is harder because cc at a high level is harder than 3rd graders playing soccer.

Problem is your criteria. Anyone in the know can look at a thin weight class state-wide and not label some a great wrestler.

And if you want to talk margin of error in a competition or tourney, then your example gets even more wonky.

State placement, and the perceived "easiness" of it is not a logical argument. Let's talk money. Let's talk scholarships. Wrestling wins again, even if you want to claim it's somehow easier to place based on numbers or classes and ignoring that the best athletes don't give a shit about CC and play other sports.

That's fair. Margin of error can be considered. Occasionally you'll see #1 seeds lose first round to the 4th seed and then come back and lose their 2nd match in the consi's. Not very often but occasionally.
Those same wrestlers who went 0-2 at the state meet (as a #1 seed) could be underclassman, which means they have another shot at placing in the state wrestling meet.
Brian Stephens went 0-2 as a Junior (as the #1 seed) but came back and won state as a Senior.

The toilet thing is cool, though.

I dont think XC is tougher than any other sport, but it could probably be defended better by someone a little more intelligent than CCrunner, lol.

Those arguments were f***ing hilarious. What an idiot.
  • rmolin73
No let ccrunner be the one to defend someones arguments. It amazes me how dumb he is.
