I'm sure it was something like this...

"Watch out! He's got a colostomy bag!

The problem is the patient was mentally unstable and either not able or not willing to comply. Better officer training would have helped them to more quickly make that decision.
    I absolutely agree with this.

True. Obviously they missed the "1-armed guy with a knife in a wheel chair" scenario.

I think it's more about cops making poor choices under pressure. You could try to screen for that, but then you might end-up with a shortage of qualified cops.

And where's the accountability for the mental health professionals supposedly trained and equipped to deal with these people/situations?

Police officers are mostly people who couldn't hack it in higher paying fields or fields that require more education. Quite frankly, it's surprising stupid stuff like this doesn't happen more often.

Why didn't anyone riot over this?

Hey, a 1 armed man killed Dr Kimble's wife.

This is the first I heard of this story. Had they subdued him and this had gone to trial, he wouldn't have had a leg to stand on. Ok, maybe one....sad story still.

Yeah, I'm so bored, I'm resurrecting old topics.

    Sick bastard.

Truth is, that was my first thought as well but it was just...too easy.

If he was a girl, I'm sure her name would have been Eileen.

so stupid .. police could have pour cooking oil on the floor, it would have taken days before the guy could wheel himself out of the room or even move, by that time he would have cooled down..
I agree in this case police had other options.... using only house hold products...
