But seriously, seems excessive. -

justincredibleI can't imagine letting myself get "trapped" in a corner by a guy missing multiple limbs in a wheel chair. I'd be all like "hey, partner, come pull this guy away from, would ya?"
-
Gblockand if i read correctly the guy who wasnt trapped pulled the trigger??
-
FatHobbitHow does someone in a wheelchair with one arm corner you and try to stab you with a pen? Wouldn't he need to stop moving his chair to stab with the pen?
-
Steel Valley FootballThis could not have been more unnecessary. However, the officer will be cleared IMO. After all, it happened in Texas.
-
gutEven ignoring all the other points and options - is a sharpie really considered a "deadly weapon" justifying the use of lethal force?
-
ernest_t_bassWow. This is incredibly sad. What a POS.

I'm not justifying it, because it's fucked up regardless, but the article makes it seem like they couldn't tell what was in his hand?gut;1279310 wrote:Even ignoring all the other points and options - is a sharpie really considered a "deadly weapon" justifying the use of lethal force? -

Correct. Instead of just wheeling him away he shot him in the head. Sounds like a reasonable alternative. :rolleyes:Gblock;1279257 wrote:and if i read correctly the guy who wasnt trapped pulled the trigger?? -
Raw Dawgin' it
You know a sharpie is as deadly as a light saber, right?justincredible;1279321 wrote:Correct. Instead of just wheeling him away he shot him in the head. Sounds like a reasonable alternative. -

Yes, from what it said, he wouldn't show his hands (hand?).GoChiefs;1279317 wrote:I'm not justifying it, because it's ****ed up regardless, but the article makes it seem like they couldn't tell what was in his hand?
That's just asking to be shot when in a confrontation with most cops. -

Technically, yes, since lightsaber's aren't real.Raw Dawgin' it;1279325 wrote:You know a sharpie is as deadly as a light saber, right? -
IliketurtlesIf this guy would have just listened to the officers orders and put down his "weapon" then he wouldn't have been shot.

Not sure if you're being facetious or not, but what you stated is correct.
The problem is the patient was mentally unstable and either not able or not willing to comply. Better officer training would have helped them to more quickly make that decision. -
TedShecklerCalling shenanigans on this story. No way could someone with one arm corner someone while in a wheelchair.
Wouldn't he only be able to wheel around in circles? -
Scarlet_BuckeyeWhile I agree the officer was likely in the wrong here, to be fair...
While I don't condone the action of the Officer, I'm okay with it.The officers were responding to a report that [the man] was acting aggressively.
Police said Claunch was clutching an object as he advanced on one of the police officers.
The officers made verbal commands for the suspect to drop whatever he had in his hand, to stay still and to speak with the officers, but the suspect continued to make threats.
Claunch trapped one officer with his wheelchair in the corner of a room "where he couldn't get out,"
As he advanced toward the officers, Claunch was "refusing to show his hands," -

Unless it was an electric wheelchair. -

Unless it was an electric wheelchair, I'm not buying that a one armed man advanced on officers with something in his hand that they couldn't see.Scarlet_Buckeye;1279382 wrote:While I agree the officer was likely in the wrong here, to be fair...
