I'm currently surrounded by turkeys making a ton of noise, ugh

Pretty bitter I can't get out until Thursday. I had an anterless tag I needed to use up by yetersday and I had been out in the woods 2x a day from Wednesday-Sunday night, saw 1 deer too far away. They know it's coming and have gone into noturnal mode it seems like. Goodluck to those who are able to go this week. Stay safe

I have an urban zone I hunt, so I'm lucky to be able to use antlerless tags all season

Couple tails on the way out but not much. It was loud for a period this morning and right about lunchtime when I got out of my stand and kicked some toward a neighboring property.

I heard 9 shots all day

Without going back through the entire thread or creating a new "looking to buy a..." thread, anyone a bow hunter? I've never owned a bow but always spent a lot of time at the archery ranges my 4 years at FFA camp and was pretty good with the shitty compound bows they had. That said, I've never hunted with a bow. Bow season is much longer than gun season, correct? My ability to hunt is limited as I know of no places around Cincinnati to hunt and would need to plan it around trips back to my mom and grandma's farms. Having a larger season to participate in would make it a lot easier on me.

I'm good with a bow staff.

So your question is bow season is much longer? That is correct. Started in September, ends beginning of February.

Yeah, and I was planning on progressing into a discussion on decent bows/brands.

I recommend a Hoyt. Cant give any specific because Im not into bow hunting..too impatient to sit in a tree stand. But they are one of, if not the best brands.

Mathews, Hoyt, PSE are great Bows , Bear makes a good bow, with great pricing. If Your serious about getting a Bow, You need to find a Bow shop or even go to Bass Pro in Cincy and just shoot a bunch of them , Get the one that feels the most comfortable for You to shoot

If You wont have alot of time to practice/shoot, You might want to go the Crossbow route. Horton, 10 point, and Excalibur are the best. I have 2 Hortons and love them ,great Bow for the price and made in Kent Ohio

You can shoot 'em at Bass Pro Shops? Might have to run over there in a few weekends.

Yes, I shot a few crossbows there last year. Dicks sporting goods will also let You test out a Bow, When I was in in the market for a new Crossbow, I went to Dicks and shot a few when I decided on the Bow I wanted I looked on Ebay for the one I wanted and got it for $150 less, So keep that in mind before You buy

Oh, I'm a cheapskate. I almost always test out in stores and then buy online unless it's something I need immediately.

Is that sarcasm? Not sure if I know of it.

For reals, though, I like this one. I think $400 would probably be my limit so this would fit in that budget.

That is a nice bow. Just keep in mind, when you buy it, unless I'm reading it wrong, you'll have to add a lot to it. As far as quiver, sights etc. So you may be looking at some more $ for that as well. Just FYI. I found mine on Craigslist ready to hunt for around 200$. Was able to go shoot it before buying, and have taken 2 deer so far with it. May be another option.

I hadn't really thought of craigslist. I know you can't buy guns on there so I never gave it much thought as far as other weaponry.

Went by the place I hunt and there were several trucks in the lane. A friend and I are the only ones that has permission to hunt this ground. The guys were out in my dads field with a nice size buck. I drove back to see what was going on and why they were there. One guy was the game warden, I did not notice his truck, the other guys I did not know. I asked them what was going on and they said they shot this buck and out of my tree stand. I asked the game warden if he checked their permission slips cause this was my fathers land. I was pissed they shot the one I passed the 12 up for. It was a ten pointer. I bet it was 4inches around its base and the brow were both 12-14" very nice buck. The guys were from toledo not sure what is going to happen. I had to leave. PISSED off right now.

Damn, that sucks. That'd be considered poaching, right? What are the possible penalties?
