Extremely loud and Crowne are supposed to be bad, I'll give you that. But Toy Story 3, was great.

Leo - J Edgar was terrible, Inception was mediocre at best, Shutter Island was poor, Revolutionary Road was boring and poor, and Body of Lies was mediocre mindless action flick. Not exactly a great body of work either. Great Gatsby looks terrible, but I think Django will be awesome.

There's a reason why Leo hasn't won any awards, he is very inconsistent in his roles even in films that I thought were excellent (see Inception and The Departed), perhaps it isn't his fault but rather the directors but some of his lines seem so scripted. I don't know about Gatsby, might sit that one out.

As for Hanks, he's a nice guy everyman that IMO peaked at A League of Their Own/Philadelphia/Saving Private Ryan. Road to Perdition was good, I enjoyed it.

It is just odd to me that these are the Hollywood A-listers when amazing actors like Gary Oldman are constantly ignored for their work. Just don't get it.

Extremely Loud and Larry Crowne didn't even catch my interest in the previews. I'm sure Toy Story 3 was good though. As for the Leo movies I was basically bored to tears by J. Edgar but I enjoyed Inception, Shutter Island, and Revolutionary Road. I don't remember seeing Body of Lies though. I agree Great Gatsby looks bad. I had high hopes prior to seeing the preview. I too think Django will be awesome.

Favorite Tom Hanks movies? (I have not seen all of his movies so my list is limited. It's also probably based on how much I liked the movie, not on his acting.)

    1. Saving Private Ryan
    2. Green Mile
    3. Forest Gump
    4. Catch me if you can
    5. Road to Perdition
  • Commander of Awesome
You left off Big, Tuner and Hooch, Philadelphia, the Burbs, Money Pit, and League of their Own. Oh man, its tough he's made sooo many great films.

My List (Excluding Forrest Gump. That's a top film of the 90s):

    1. Road to Perdition
    2. Saving Private Ryan
    3. Big
    4. Green Mile
    5. Philadelphia

League of their Own and Burbs just barely missing the cut. I also really enjoyed the Terminal, I know I'm in the minority on that one.

With the increase cost in movie production, salaries, and other misc. costs, studios are scared to go out on limbs as much as they used to with fresh ideas. This is why there are so many damn sequels/reboots now.

Interesting to me that you have Road to Perdition #1. I though someone might question me putting it in his top 5, but I really liked it.

Its one of my personal favorite films, shocked that earlier so many people left it out of the tom hanks discussion.

Hollywood sucks anymore. I've gone to the theater the least I've ever gone this year, majority of whats produced is just straight garbage. The dialogue in movies IMO is at the lowest its ever been. Its absolutely horrendous. I just shake my head when people lol at the stereo typical, saw it coming a mile away, no clever in the slightest, and over used puns. Case in point Avengers. I cringed at the dialogue but people sitting around me thought it was hysterical.

My memory is fuzzy on which films were in the 90's and which were in the early 2000's so I googled top movies of the 90's and there were a TON of great movies. I couldn't even start to narrow it down.

Hanks was awesome in the 80s/90s. Its only been recently (last 10 years) I dont like his work (Toy Story doesnt count. There is no acting.)

I also did hate Forrest Gump. But thats more on the writing, script and all that. Hanks was phenomenal in the role.

In my eyes he needs Cloud Atlas to be entertaining. I generally like his movies but Larry Crowne and Extremely Loud didn't appeal to me at all.
  • Trueblue23
Just looked at Fandango's website because I wanted to catch a movie tonight. That lineup might be the worst box office EVER.

No doubt about it, not appealing nor highly regarded. Probably his 2 worst films ever, and happen to come out back to back. Both were killed by critics, though some how Extremely Loud was nominated for best picture. Made no sense.
  • FatHobbit
I am curious to see what anyone says about cloud atlas. Unless someone here has something good to say about it, I'm going to pass.
  • Commander of Awesome
55 on meta, not good. But 8.7 user score which is really good. Def interested in seeing what others thought.
  • wes_mantooth
    His best movie....

    Bachelor party. /discussion

I just read a bunch of reviews and a lot are saying Cloud Atlas is boring and that the plot doesn't come into focus until like 2 hours in.
  • Scarlet_Buckeye
Perhaps the coolest [movie] infographic ever....

Apologies if this has already been posted.

Going to see Cloud Atlas right now. Will report back with my useless opinion after.
  • SportsAndLady
So I looked up the wrong movie theatre online, and showed up to the theatre 2 hours before the next Cloud Atlas showing was. Pissed me off. Saw Argo instead, which was really good...but I wanted to see Cloud Atlas.
