Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes the other night, it was ok thought the CGI was pretty bad most times though!

I saw tinker tailor soldier spy on christmas, thought it was extremely confusing. I'm not kidding when I said half of the theater got up and left half way through it. If I had watched it at home I would have stopped watching as well. Great acting, terrible story.

I just got back from seeing Contraband. It was a pretty entertaining flick. If you like Mark Wahlberg I recommend it.
  • SportsAndLady
Yeah I saw Contraband last Friday...it was actually pretty good.

I was a little skeptical after seeing the reviews, but had a day off and watned to see a movie so I said fuck it and saw it; liked it.
  • Commander of Awesome
It looks like a mindless action flick, which when I'm in the mood for (see Commando) are great. This is one of the movies where I'd ignore the reviews.

Curious on peopple's thoughts of the best movie they saw in 2011 (or their favorite to come out in 2011).

For me the top 2 are very easy:
    The Descendants
    Drive

2011 seemed to be the year of disspointment over all though. J Edgar blew (lol), Tom Hanks finally made a bad movie, Sin City 2 never came out, Tinker Tailor was a mess and hard to follow, etc...
  • wes_mantooth
I thought drive was way too slow and boring. I am in the minority that didn't like it.

I prolly need a list of movies that came out in 2011 because my memory sucks.lol
  • SportsAndLady
I didn't see the Descendants or Drive..need to get on that for DVD releases.

    I too need a list..I can't remember shit.

Your point has been confirmed with factual evidence in your link, what a shitty year for movies.

I'm seeing Man On A Ledge tonight at an advanced screening. I'm not expecting much, but I think there's some potential.

    That movie looks absolutely terrible.

A+ Movies (aka award winning worthy, IMO):
    • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
    • Moneyball

    A Movies (aka very solid):
    • Horrible Bosses
    • Source Code
    • The Hangover Part II
    • No Strings Attached
    • Friends with Benefits
    • Bad Teacher
    • 50/50

A- Movies (aka good movies; but there was just something missing):
    • The Ides of March (acting was phenomenal - perhaps best ever - but just was missing something)

    B+ Movies:
    • Thor

B Movies (aka entertaining movies that I would definitely watch again, but not necessarily award winning IMO):

    • Cowboys & Aliens
    • New Year's Eve
    • X-Men: First Class
    • 30:Minutes or Less
    • The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1

C+ Movies (aka glad I saw, but nothing great)
    • Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

C Movies (Glad I watched them, but I would be fine if I never saw them again):
    • Captain America: The First Avenger
    • Green Lantern

    D- Movies (painful to watch):
    • Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
    • Jack and Jill

F Movies (PLEASE give me that wasted time of my life back):
    • A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas

  • SportsAndLady
    1) Friends w/ Benefits & Bad Teacher are not A movies lol

    2) You saw Twilight, so I am pretty much not going to take any of your movie opinions seriously. Like, I'll take bigdaddy's optimistic opinion over yours for now (jk bigdaddy :D)

I too think Man on a Ledge looks terrible.

    Best comedy was "horrible bosses"

I liked Horrible Bosses but I have to give the edge to Change Up.

Maybe my expectations were too high going in, but I didn't think it was great. It was ok. I did put it in my top 10, but I was expecting it to be as good as the hangover from all the great things I heard about it.

You are easily impressed. Bad Teacher was a D+ or C- at best. Friends with Benefits was entertaining, don't need to see it again, but the best of the movies that I quoted above.

I agree. I was bored the entire time waiting for something to happen.

Change up was much better than expected.

It was a bad year for movies. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is probably my EASY #1. But I have been trying to get to The Descendants. Im sure Ill love it.

Friends with Benefits and Bad Teacher were excellent (i.e., entertaining) movies. Not sure what more you want.

    Twilight
was with a lady friend. Sorry I'm not a complete-and-utter douchebag like you and I enjoy taking my lady friend to see movies she really enjoys. Now go **** yourself; or better yet, continue reading up on Will, Mike, & Sam.

    Agreed.
