Read the whole page. It says, "Use Caution - One Does Not Simply Walk Into Mordor"

They're breaking down "The Hobbit" book into 2 movies aren't they?

Not sure why, I hear they both will be condensed versions of the LOTR.

Of course it should have come out first. But it didn't. That doesn't mean this can't be an entertaining movie, does it?

I'll try and keep this is mind moving forward so I dont get your panties in a bunch but not agreeing with everything you say and think every movie is great bc it has a great book or big budget attached to it.

I do think I tend to be negative towards a lot of films coming out today but I think its with good reason. I feel majority of movies being produced today are lacking in quality when compared to films of past generations. I blame CGI and would love for just one year for Hollywood to be able to use it. It's annoying that terrible films like Spiderman 3, or the sitter get tons of publicity and marketing behind it yet great films like Drive (to use a recent example) have almost no marketing and is out of the theaters in 2 weeks. The Blind side is up for an Oscar (LMAO what a joke that movie was terrible) yet Blue Valentine isn't? How is that even possible? Blue Valentine was probably the best movie out that year. Hollywood is in a rut and uses CGI as a crutch, great storytelling is hard to come in a movie anymore along with decent acting or character development. Some of my friends call me a movie snob, which I can see and agree with, but even objectively I think most would agree majority of the big budget movies are ****.

I dont doubt the Hobbit will be decent, but lets be honest. If you've seen The Lord of the Rings, you've already seen this movie.
I never said the Hobbit will be great. Heck, I never even said it looks great. I think it will be entertaining based off of the LOTR trilogy. It just seems any time someone tosses out a new film, you are the first one to shoot it down because "it's the cool thing to do" or something. I mean, no one is proclaiming these as academy award winners. They are simply mentioning films that should be entertaining, and I tend to agree/think that 75% of them are. You, on the other hand, it's more like 5%. I find that sad/disturbing that you cannot find entertainment in movies like this.

For example, I bet you hated Will Smith's Wild Wild West. Sure it was corny and not even close to the best motion picture ever, but it still was very entertaining and I got a lot of enjoyment out of watching it.

You're the first person I've met who didn't like Blind Side and it's not a surprise either.

Sounds like you haven't talked to many people about Blind Side. It's got a 53 on Meta, I'm certainly not alone in my thoughts on the movie.

I thought it was poorly done. Almost seemed like an exclusive movie made by ABC Family. OMG! He is blocking the guy for 70 yards straight, and now he is blocking him out of the endzone!!!!! lol gtfo. No idea how Sandra won an Oscar for it. Must have been her "time."

what a waste of time, energy and money.

The Blind Side was ok, but so f'n cheesy. Like a lot of flicks, it could have been better if they made it more realistic instead of cheesing it up to appeal to the masses.

I like movies for what they are, good and bad. I'll watch anything, but I won't see everything in the theaters. I classify movies in two categories, worth paying $12 or so to see, or not. More often then not, its the latter. Everything out right now looks rather mehh, but I may see The Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo. I've heard good things.

The problem with the blind side is that Disney got involved. They sugar coat everything.

Yes, major part of the reason why it sucked. I hate when i hear great a movie concept is coming out only to learn disney will be producing the movie.

So a buddy wants me to go check out the new Sherlock Holmes flick but I didn't catch the first one. Is there anything I should know going into this one that happened in the first?
  • GoPens
I didn't like the first one at all so I don't have plans to see this one...well, maybe when it's on dvd.

I grabbed it off Netflix and I can't remember now if I just never put it in the player or if I didn't care for it so I shut it off. I decided to not to go anyways.

I actaully enjoyed the first Sherlock Holmes, I did not think that I would, but thought it above average movie. Worth a DVD rental, not good enough to see in theaters. </SPAN>
