We are not going to that one. After breaking my collar bone last year at the Beer fest at the Hyatt, I'm not sure if I'll go to another one down town. Maybe it was a sign from God...lol It was Super crowded at the Hyatt last year and we stopped early due to the amount of people there. Plus the fire alarm was going off. I'm sure the Duke Center will be better since it's bigger.justincredible;661269 wrote:Are you going to the beer fest at Duke in a few weeks? My wife and I are going for my birthday.
One of the issues I have with some of them is that you don't have Brewery Reps, Sales, or Distributer Reps serving you. It's volunteers and most of the time the have NO insight on the product they are serving you. Only that they might like it or its good. Plus thats the weekend of my Moms's Birthday so I'm sure we'll get together with her. (2-11)
I be at the Jungle Jims Beerfest in June. I've been to everyone of thiers since they started doing them. They sell only so many tickets so it doesn't get overly crowded and have people who know about the beer pouring. Sometimes even the Brewmasters are there. (Mike Dewey from Mt Carmel Brewing)
Have fun !!! -

When will tickets go on sale for the one at Jungle Jims? How much is it usually? Sounds awesome as I hate large crowds. -
justincredibleJust looked on the Jungle Jims beerfest site and could find a date for next year or a price but it looks like an awesome event. I am definitely going to make it to that one.

Only because his post initially had an error in it. I closed up the quote tag on his quote of my post. -

Yea and I have a hard time single quotin' as Justin pointed out.O-Trap;661472 wrote:Look at you, double quotin'!
It's usually in June and it's been on a Friday night the past couple of years. I keep my ears open for the date and price, as I know quite a few in the Beer and Wine Dept at the Jungle. We are going to the Stone's Brewery tasting Feb 18th, if I can get off work. Last time Stone was here it was a "Vertical" tasting of the same beer(s) from different years to see how they changed. (from 2006 and up) I have some of those same beers packed away in my Computer/Beer Storage room. -
justincredibleDD ticket prices were listed at $15 for last years event. I'd guess that puts a regular ticket at around $40.
-
justincredibleHere is the beer list for the festival I am going to next weekend:
http://cincybeerfest.intuitwebsites.com/Beer-List---2010.html
I get 25 sampling tickets (plus probably 10-15 more since my wife won't sample a full 25). What beers from that list do I need to give a shot? -

Speaking of Southern Tier, they've got a really good Porter.
Big fan of Southern Tier too.
They have hands down the best pumpkin ale (Pumking) I have ever tasted.
I could only find it in, I believe 22 oz, individual bottles around NE Ohio this year.
It literally tastes like liquid pumpkin pie. -

Wasn't too impressed with Breckenridge's Vanilla Porter. Other than that, I agree with both of these lists.
I'd add:
Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
Southern Tier Porter
New Holland Dragon's Milk
Ommegang Three Philosophers
Unibroue Noire de Chambly
Heavy Seas Red Sky at Night
Lagunitas Brown Shugga -
FlashMost guys start home brewing then do an apprenticeship at a micro brewery. If your interested there's a lot of brew clubs who meet once a month an share recipes and experience. Wayne County has one and Googling a county near you, you may find one.

Bio-HazzzzardI bought a 6-packer of the GL Edmond Fitzgerald for the first time tonight and I see what a few of you were talking about.
Good stuff! -
gerb131Anybody had the beer out of Georgia, Sweetwater 420? It's damn good brew too.

Yeah, that's their porter if I'm not mistaken.
Great Lakes typically has some good quality, albeit sometimes I think it's overpriced for the quality. Their porter, however, is worth every penny. -

I also bought a bottle of Samuel Smith's India Ale, any experience with this? -
O-TrapNot a huge fan of Sam Smith. Actually had the Oatmeal Stout last night.
It's not awful, but there are PLENTY better oatmeal stouts out there.
Never tried a Sammy IPA, though. -

Sweetwater has a pretty solid line up. Their 420 is pretty good IPA. They have some seasonals that are pretty good too. I've been meaning to go check out the brewery when I go to Hotlanta but haven't had the time yet.
Also, whoever had Dogfish head 120 up there, definitely needs tried. I have never even seen it in stores but it sounds awesome. -
gerb131I've also had Georgia Brown and Exodus Porter also very good.
That 120 is no joke....glad Dogfish finally caught on been drinkin that shit for a minute now. -

It really is. -
justincredibleI bought a $2.99 sixer of lager at Trader Joe's last night (along with another bottle of their vintage ale). The lager was alright but I'm not sure I'll ever try it again. They have a $2.99 sixer of pilsner as well that I'll try next. As for the vintage ale, if you've got a Trader Joe's nearby and they still have some left, BUY IT.
