Beer snob discussion thread

Shit, the Big Falls has been like $3.79 or some shit at my Walgreens. BS.
  • O-Trap
How the hell did Walgreens come back into the picture?
  • I Wear Pants
    This is a cycle bro.
  • O-Trap
It must be. Someone, quick, change the thread title again. :D

Don't know but I finally saw some of that beer for the first time the other day and almost picked it up for the heck of it.
  • O-Trap
Haha! I bet that stuff would be just about like cheap Israeli sparkling wine for someone with a taste for Dom Perignon.
  • I Wear Pants
Actually the Big Falls reviews favorably compared to Miller/Budweiser. So still not good but it's something.

Bad news Otrap. The place across the river did not have any 120 Minute. They actually only had the Midas Touch on the shelves. Their DFH is way down too. It's been about a year and a half since they've had any 120 in the store the guy told me. I cant believe it's been that long since I had one, but the 1st and only time I had a 120 it one came from there.

I did get some Arcadia Cereal Killer Barley Wine, which I've never had until tonight. I'm on my second and it's pretty damn good...good enough to put the remaining 2 in the fridge if I get even more thirsty later. Side note...back in 2005 my first beer tasting was an all Arcadia tasting that the founder and president of Arcadia Brewing, Tim Surprise, was the host/speaker. I had to get the Barley Wine in principle, plus they don't have Arcadia anymore where I shop. Plus Tim is a really cool guy.

I also picked up a 12 pack of Sierra Nevada Beer Camp. It's actually a “The Best of Beer Camp” sampler. I'm looking forward for some of the different beers in that one...now back to the fridge for a 3rd Cereal Killer.

I was in a Walgreen's today and didn't even look for their beer.

Really looking forward to trying this; need to stop in my regular beer shop to see if it's here yet. Last night was Anchor Steam and DFH 60 min.

That IS bad news, Curly. Bad news, indeed.

I'll keep checking there. They are getting some new releases from other breweries there according to the guy I spoke to. They don't have it in their system yet so it's not on the shelves. Also one of their distributors just got bought out by Cavalier Distributing so they might get some products they never had before. One they have there regularly is Avery's Demon's of Ale Series. (Samuel's, The Beast, and Mephistopheles' all above 14%) One of The Wife's ex-employees works there so hopefully I can get better info on the new stuff as it comes in.

Looks like one of the Beer Camp winners has an Ohio connection. http://beer.ohio.com/2011/04/ohio-flavor-in-sierra-nevadas-new-beer-camp-sampler/

Always been a fan of Avery's. Love their Czar RIS.

    14%??? Holy cow!

Busted out a Rust Belt Rusted River Irish Red because Osama is dead and it's the most American thing I have to drink.
  • O-Trap
I love that an "Irish" Red is the most American thing you have. :D

Haha. Well it is, made in Youngstown and called Rust Belt is about as American as you get. Plus the only other thing I had to drink was Smithwick's.

I had a little bit of every thing last Night. Lambic sounded good so first was a bottle of St Louis Framboise. I forgot how good a lambic could be. Keeping with the Belgium theme, I moved on to the Tiny. Damn good !!! It had been sitting for a year, but the alcohol feel was still pretty strong. Nice chocolate flavor with lasting toffee notes lingering in the finish. I liked the heavy mouth feel and the way it just coated the tongue. I have a feeling this one would age well for years and get a lot more flavorful over time. I'll have to buy some more of this and set it back. Lastly was a Brew Dog Paradox Isle of Arran. This one was actually disappointing. I usually love Brew Dog's offerings and considering this was an expensive 12oz bottle of oak aged Stout, I thought it would be awesome. It just seemed weak, very thin on the palate, no head at all, and tasted flat. The Wifes first comment was it tastes flat, like a stout that you let sit in a glass over night. It could of been due to having the robust Tiny prior to it and the flavor and lower alcohol content of the Paradox couldn't stand up to it. Tiny close to 12% and Paradox at 10%, but it felt a lot wider than that.

After a long ass day at work I need something strong so I just cracked my Goose Island Night Stalker. I was planning to age for a couple years because it's so boozy, but it lasted about a month on the shelf. Guess I need to pick up another bottle.

had Old Brown Dog Ale last night, and it was delicious..glad i picked it over newcastle

I've had an empty bottle of Rust Belt Rusted River Irish Red sitting on my desk for I don't know how long. I look at it and think I should throw that away, then never do.

Had a couple of the Beer Camp beers. Wasn't to impressed with the Double IPA, it hardly felt like an IPA to me. The Juniper Ale was very interesting and so far my favorite for the pack. When I think Juniper, I think Gin. That's not what I taste in it. I do get a coating on my tongue that reminds me of ground black pepper. It lingers and I like that.

Did get 3 more bottles of Tiny. A couple to save and one for now, maybe even Saturday night. (I wanna feel the burn on this fresh bottle)

Had another Bottle of the DFH Black and Blue. I prefer that over the Red and White. (I think most people prefer the opposite)

The Wife managed to get her hands on a bottle of the DFH Hellhound On My Ale...I'm not even gonna ask who she had to blow to get that beer. Hehe. Actually the beer and wine purchaser saw here in the store and told it they had some. They keep it on a hidden shelf that only the employees of the beer and wine department has access to. They are nice/smart enough there to know the people who would appreciate those special beers.

Tonight, once I get home, its going to be a Sam Adams nite with Latitude 48 IPAs. By IPAs I mean it a 12 pack that has the Latitude 48 brewed with 6 different hops, 2 bottles brewed with Simcoe hops, 2 bottles brewed with Hallertau, 2 with Kent Goldings...you get the idea.

    Damn I'm thirsty...gotta go !

Carte Blanca, Dos Equis Amber and Dos Equis Lager Especial last night. Asi, asi.
  • OneBuckeye
Had a 60 minute IPA on tap for the first real beer of the year. (had one weekend of drinking bud) It was pretty damn good and refreshing. However I was drinking it too slow and as it warmed it got much worse.

Secondary though Dos Equis Lager is by far the best Mexican beer. I hate how everyone has the Amber on tap. So annoying.
  • Fred Flintstone
For Mexican beer I like the Dos Equis but I prefer Sol. I drank a ton of it last summer in Mexico.

  • BORIStheCrusher
Drinking Jolly Pumpkin E.S. Bam Hoppy Farmhouse Ale right now. Good, but very interesting beer (like most from JP). Huge amount of hops mixed their regular sourness.
