Southern Miss preps to attempt to recover from their Week 1 debacle with a tough game against Navy.

    said Coach Darby,

''Another tough task for our team this week. Navy is a good football team that is explosive offensively. Our kids and staff have a lot of respect for them and what they do. One thing is for sure, when you play a service academy the game is going to be physical and the kids are going to play hard for all 60 minutes, and our kids need to be prepared for that.''

This matter has been addressed...I never told him how we play and he isn't a member of OC. I told him about it so maybe he will check it out. Hopefully it is no harm no foul and we can move on. I don't wanna boot anybody, but I will bring the hammer if I have to.

Smitty looks to get his 2nd win of the day in the dynasty while So Miss trys to avenge their week 1 loss to Georgia Tech...they have now had all summer plus an extra week to prepare for the Option Attack of Georgia Tech and Navy...but it is so hard for scout teams to simulate.

Utah beats UNLV 45-7 in their Mt. West opener..MT. West games appear to only get tougher with Boise, TCU, and BYU left on the schedule. Jordan Wynn posted his 2nd 300 yard game of the season.

2nd game of the day.....2nd win of the day. Navy came out of the gate running and never looked back in a 49-22 pouncing of Southern Miss. Was able to pound the ball for 300+ yards for the W

Southern Miss drops to 0-2 following a lopsided 49-22 loss against the Midshipmen of the Naval Academy. The Eagles fell behind quickly again and were unable to dig themselves out of a hole.

Coach Darby: "i think its abundantly clear that nobody on our staff or any of our players thought we would have struggled to the point we have so far. We're not a very good football team right now and must work harder to change it. Our offense is has been anemic and unable to execute in 3rd down situations or move the football to give our defense a rest and get us off the field. We also have not held onto the football which has killed us as well. Our coaching staff will be taking a hard look at personnel heading into next week's game against North Texas."

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane picked up their first (and possibly only) win this season in a shootout win 44-40 over the Bowling Green Falcons. Coach llucas after the gamem "I was very pleased with our offensive ball movement, minus a few interceptions thrown by GJ Kinne that kept the Falcons in the game. However, if our defense tackles and plays as piss poor as it has the first 2 games, we will be lucky to win another game this season."

Hawai'i wins in overtime against Army 30-24 to improve to 1-1 on the young season. Coach heel had this to say about this game. "I am really proud of my guys. They showed that they can play with heart. If we play like this week in and week out we can play with anyone in the country." As far as next week showdown with BYU coach had this to say. "Ball control will be the key for us to stay in the game. We can not let them go up and down the field on us".

Early INT's and the defense of Houston ruined Case Keenum's 500 yard passing performance and a hell of a comeback.

USM moves on to Week 3 and prepares for their first home game of the season against North Texas.

Said Coach Darby: "I think we've had a good week of preparation and the kids are anxious to get out and prove that we're not as bad as people think. We'd like to get the 1st one in the win column and take some of the pressure off of our guys and be able to move onto the rest of the year. Both teams are looking to get their 1st one this weekend, so it should be a good one."

BYU improves to 3-0 after a thumping 65-7 win over the Warriors of Hawaii. Hawaii had things going good early in the 1st quarter when senior running back Alex Green broke into the open for a 76 yard touchdown run. Only did we not know that was the only time the Hawaii offense did anything. BYU came back and took a 14-7 lead going into the 2nd quarter. BYU defense allowed 119 total yards in the 1st quarter, but really flexed there muscles only allowing the Warriors to gain 23 more yards the whole game giving them a total of 142 for the ball game. Mean while the Cougars offense could not be stopped, racking up 581 offensive yards. BYU junior quarterback racked up another great day throwing for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns. He did throw 1 interception in the endzone. The Cougars rushing game was unreal racking up 282 yards on 25 carries and 6 touchdowns. JJ Di Luigi led the way with 162 yards on 11 carries and 3 touchdowns. Back up running back Bryan Kariya added 92 yards on 7 carries with 2 touchdowns and fullback Mike Hague added 18 yards on 3 carries and 1 score.
Erin Andrews caught up with Coach Bucks after the win and he had this to say "We are very happy with this win but we knew we were coming into this game as heavy favorites, and I really am happy with how the boys played. We just held the gas pedal down and kept going. Our defense really set the tone after giving up the early touchdown, those guys have played great all year, they are always giving our offense the ball in great field position and just flying all over the field making plays. Now we can start focusing on Nevada they are a very good team with a great coach. We will definitely need to have a great week at practice. Go Cougars"
