What teams remaining could beat kentucky?

  • Ironman92
Watching this game is brutal. Cornell looks like a fundamentally sound bunch of 5th graders playing against athletic 8th graders. It's not even fair.

I have this big belief in karma and that Calipari's past may keep UK from winning it all. They look as dominant as anyone since 1991 UNLV....funny enough A fire hot near perfect Duke along wiht a hot shooting OSU and maybe K State are the only 3 teams left that could beat them.

Will this tourney end up being like UNLV of 1990 or 1991?

    Man they look good!

    Cornell.

IF KState wins, they could beat Kentucky, if they're shooting hot. They can run with them, they'd have trouble on the inside, though.

The only team capable of beating Kentucky is Kentucky.

Tennessee, WVU, and the winner of X/KSU

Well, I'd say Duke just because the refs could cheat a little bit to even it up.

Duke doesn't match up with the athletes but there is still a threat because of who they are.

WVU actually has good length and is tough inside. I think they'll make a game of it for awhile but Kentucky will have a clinching spurt.

I don't see any team from the other side beating Kentucky if they reach the final game.

It's going to have to be a team that can grind them down, frustrate them with physical play. You're not going to beat Kentucky playing their style of ball.

West Virginia and KSU fit that description the best. I see Kentucky winning it all though.

If Darius Miller, Eric Bledsoe, DeAndre Liggins, Daniel Orton and Darnell Dodson contribute, UK won't be beat.

Like Darius Miller being so aggressive and producing, that's huge.

I agree with this. If Kentucky plays its "A" game, there's no one left in the tournament that can beat them. If they get sloppy and turn it over a bunch, then yeah, teams like Duke, WVU, OSU, K-State can beat them.

I never really root for Kentucky, but you can bet if they meet up with Duke, I'll be pulling for them.

    I won't watch.

But to the question at hand, a few teams CAN. But at this rate, no one WILL.

Any of the top seeds left imo along with Butler.

This tournament has shown that you must bring it every night.

IMO, Duke is the team with enough star power to match up and beat Kentucky. And the Blue Devils are a great rebounding team, with solid post play. I don't see anyone else beating the Cats, sans maybe K-State. But I don't think K-State gets to the final so that's irrelevant. I think they either lose to X tonight in the end or to Butler on Saturday as the Hoosiers ride into Indianapolis.

A Kentucky-Duke NCAA semis game would be a dream come true for the NCAA and just about any casual basketball observer. It's Ali-Frazier, Lakers-Celtics, all the cliches you can think of.

I think they'll win it but their two toughest games probably are upcoming.

I wasn't big on WVU entering the tournament, especially being in with Kentucky, but they rebound and have similar length on the defensive end and just are a tough team with Huggins coaching. I don't think they have enough offense to hang with Kentucky but some of their supporting guys around Butler have produced the last couple games.

Duke-Kentucky has the history and you can't really count out Duke if it's close and the refs show some favoritism.

If Kentucky gets to the finals, by that time, I think it will be too late. They'll take the Monday night stage and look awesome and confirm it.

It's unlikely they'll roll through all six games, so probably the next two, will force them into some situations where they have to fight through it.

    No it's not.

That's a good idea. I think I would have to watch, though, just so I could laugh as K released a steady torrent of obscenities as Wall and company destroyed his team. Not a fan of Calipari, which would really make it hard to hope for a UK win, but it would be entertaining to watch K throughout the beatdown.

Duke-Kentucky will always be the most coveted "rivalry" game in the NCAA Tournament. This is the game the NCAA dreams of each and every year in the Big Dance. It is the game of all games.

That's why I deem it the college version of Lakers-Celtics.

Aren't you forgetting about someone? :)

I'm not sure Duke reaches the Final Four, but Duke would not get beat down by Kentucky. This is a different Blue Devils team. Not happening.

OK, I can respect that view on it.

And Iron...he means just in the tournament.
  • ironman02
I know he does. I just like to give him a hard time.

Oh yea. :) I can't keep up with all those miniature tourney participants ;)

Obviously Duke-Carolina would be the DREAM, DREAM matchup, but since it has never happened, I just went with a "rivalry" game that has. And Duke-UK in the NCAAs has been that game over the decades.

    Right.

BTW if Purdue beats Duke tomorrow night, Carolina will have more post season wins than Duke this season :)

And to give Carolina credit where credit is due. Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas are the greatest basketball programs of all-time. In that order.

I agree. Which pains me lol

I'll talk about it more on Tuesday's semifinal thread, but I want your thoughts on Carolina's NIT run...
