Who knows who the coach will be. I have a feeling JT will have a pretty big say in it. Of course you want a guy to be proven before he takes the keys to a really nice program. But OSU's last choice of a coach was a bit of a question, but I think that worked out pretty well. If JT belives that Luke or Darrell can be a great coach at OSU, I think he'll speak up for those guys.

I still don't think you pass up on a coach like Bo Pelini or even an Urban Meyer...They have already established themselves as top notch head coaches and know the game very well. Plus they are both OSU boys so that would help their chances some. Even though some may not like Urban Meyer for some of the things that have happened with him...he is a pretty darn good coach and I would take him as my coach in a heart beat!

I hope to god its not Mark Dantonio whoever suggested that...

and it better not be that prick Meyer.

I respect what Meyer has done on the field, but I do not want him coaching OSU. I think he is a liar and a fraud. I want someone with as much integrity and personal pride and love and affection for his players that Tressel has. I want a coach that is going to run the program the right way.

Tressel has done nothing short of extraordinary in his days here at OSU, and knowing he will be here for another 4 years makes me very very happy. He does nothing but win. I see 2 more titles before he is done.

I agree with you. I mean look what has happened at Michigan when they hired an unproven coach. ;)

I agree to a degree. Tressel was a proven winner in D2 and also had some assistant coaching experience at OSU. People were upset when he was hired, but that was mostly people who didn't understand the game.

I wouldn't say that the coach Michigan now has was unproven...he did a pretty good job for his time being at WVU. I believe he had 4 bowl victories, Won a BCS bowl against Georgia, and produced a team who beat Oklahoma in a BCS bowl, even though he wasn't there to see it happen. I think he proved himself to be a pretty good coach. I am not so sure about his move to Michigan when he basically had nothing to run his style of offense.

Statistics have proven, that a coach who has NEVER held a head coaching spot at any level, usually struggle.

Not saying Fick or Hazell would struggle, but I think we all agree we would like someone who has done very very well with the reins before coming to OSU.

I don't care if it's D1-D3, if you are winning Nat'l titles at whatever level, you are doing something right. Which is exactly what Tress did.

I just want someone that is a half decent person, that won't cheat to get recruits, that won't lie, that will be honest to everyone in the program and everyone that is interested in being apart of the program.

I will be truly crushed the day Tress is no longer roaming the sidelines for the Scarlet and Gray. He is a better person than coach.

Tress up for top Buckeye coach ever if he wins 1-2 more titles in the next 4 years?

I really like what Pelini has done at Nebraska. Seems like a man of integrity and has a certain toughness around him. I'd love to see him at OSU after Tress...

Do you mean 2 big ten titles in the next four years, or two national titles? I think you might have your scarlet and gray glasses on a little tight there with the last part. :D

I think personally that Bo Pelini would be the best choice. He's a former Buckeye captain, seems to be a guy with great integrity, and consistently coaches a high level of defense with all of his teams. Leaving Nebraska for OSU is somewhat lateral, but the chance to have that Ohio pipeline would be a lot to pass up.....especially for a guy's alma mater.

Also Tressel praised his hiring at Nebraska and is familiar with him with their Youngstown ties. I think he'd be on the short list of recommendations from Tressel himself.

I know there is a 0.0000001% chance of this happening, but when Tressel walks off into the sunset, I would love OSU to steal Pat Fitzgerald from Northwestern. I know he bleeds purple, but that guy brings a fire that I think would serve a program like OSU well.
  • big_hits24
There's no way Fitzgerald will leave Northwestern unless it's an offer he can't pass up. I think he's trying to turn N'Western into a top program in the Big Ten and I dont think he goes anywhere until he at least gets a share of a Big Ten title. But I do like his coaching philosophy and his fire he brings to the sidline. But I would agree with krazie about Bo Pelini...I just love his defensive style and the way his teams are. If he ended up being the man at OSU...he needs to bring a pretty good OC because I dont want to see our offense turned into Nebraska's haha
  • Thunder70
Im surprised that ND didn't try to get Fitzgerald. He'd fit perfectly there.
  • darbypitcher22
Fitzgerald signed a big deal at Northwestern, and he said he won't go anywhere else(yes, I know I know, what he said won't be what he does), and I believe him on that.

    He's a Wildcat for life.

You would take Meyer in a second if it were guaranteed he would have the same success he has has at Florida. You are lying if you say otherwise.

I agree with "detectivegibbles" completely and I think you will find that a good number of people think that Coach Tressel has an incredible record at Ohio State and even more importantly for me, he has done it with tremendous class and integrity. I'm not saying that Coach Meyer is not a man of honor and integrity. I'm saying that I would rather have Coach Tressel. For me, he is Ohio State Football. Coach Meyer is currently Florida Football but he isn't as likely to stay there as Coach Tressel is likely to stay at Ohio STATE.

    No, I wouldn't.

Get back to me in 4 years and see how many of those 5 stars pan out to be all conference players.

If they all do, congrats. If not, well whats the 5* rating mean at that point...nothing.

It's not just the recruting that Coach Myer is pretty good at...but he has one a couple Nat'l Championships at FLA along with some SEC championships so I think he made a strong case to coach anywhere..and I think that he, being from Ohio could be a name they would take a look at if he were interested. I honestly didn't like what he has previously been doing at FLA with the taking a leave of abscence, then changing his mind, and with the recruit stuff...but he is a players coach and he gets his guys playing at a very high level.

yeah I was more referring to the 2 National Championships and other accomplishments rather than recruiting rankings. You would take Tressel over Meyer?
  • big_hits24
^^ Unless there was a way Tressel could be the HC while we brought Meyer in to be the OC...haha that wouldn't be too bad, then bring in Bo Pelini to be the DC. Best dream coaching staff!

What 'other accomplishments'? Meyer has 2, Tressel has 1, Tressel has been in 3. I don't find Meyer more alluring than Tressel. I don't get where people think Meyer, ALL things considered, to be a better head coach.

Tressel is the best steward of a university one could ask for.
  • Eric Taylor
It is just one's preference I suppose.

I believe that Meyer is the better overall package than Tressel, but you can make strong arguments either way.
