NCAA Tournament Selection Show Thread
-
ironman02The brackets will be revealed at 6 PM on the CBS Selection Show.
We have several different threads discussing the bubble, top seeds, etc., so I figured we could bring the final discussion to this thread.
Looks like there will be a little drama with regard to the #1 seeds as Syracuse finished off their season with two straight losses, while WVU and Duke finished strong. That said, I would think it's a battle between Duke and WVU for the final #1 seed, with KU, UK, and 'Cuse locking up a spot on the top line already, in my opinion.
MSU made a great case for an at-large bid, making a run to the SEC Final, before losing an overtime heartbreaker to UK. Minnesota is fighting for its NCAA life against OSU right now, while Illinois, Va Tech, and others are probably on the edge of their seats waiting for the official word in a little over two hours.
We'll see what happens soon. -
ironman02The latest (as of 3:40 PM) version of Joe Lunardi's Bracketology.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology
Last Three In:
Minnesota
Utah State
Illinois
Last Three Out
Virginia Tech
Miss St.
Florida
Va Tech would be the first 10-6 ACC team to miss the tournament. -
ironman02I wonder if Minnesota's thrashing by the Buckeyes will have an adverse effect on their chances. The committee might have already made up its mind once Minny made the conference final, but this performance by the Gophers probably isn't encouraging. I'm still thinking that Lunardi could be wrong about Illinois also. They have some good wins and a good conference record, but 19-14 is rough.

slingshot4everI don't think Va Tech or Florida have any argument to be in the tourney. The final 3 spots will come from the other 4 teams:
Illini
Minny
Utah St
Miss St
I think Miss St is the odd man out. -
mallymal614It's amazing what one game will do to a team. Around 4:00 yesterday, Illinois seem to be in after taking Ohio State to two overtimes. Now all of a sudden they could be out based on Minnesota's performance against Purdue. I can't see wait to see how all this goes down.

NonUtah St. has an RPI of 31
that would be a rip off to leave them out, even from a lower conference
Minnesota beat Illinois late in the season
so it's Illinois vs. Miss State
both put up good performances in the conference tournament, so it's a toss-up really -
wildcats20Well that made me feel a little better lol
-
mallymal614I think the final spot will come down to Mississippi State and Illinois. MSU was only 0.1 second away from only being in the dance.
