I think either Duke or Ohio State gets the nod over Cuse, unless both Duke and OSU lose tomorrow. I do not think the committee gives it to a team that lost their last 2 games and couldn't get out of the quarterfinals in the conference tourney.

    1. Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse, Duke

    2. Ohio State, West Virginia, Kansas State, Georgetown

    3. Butler, Purdue, Villanova, Michigan State

If Duke wins the ACC they'll be the forth 1 seed. WVU,Ohio St,K-State,maybe G'town but I doubt they'll be a 2 seed I see them as the best 3 seed.

Syracuse will get a #1 seed. The committee stated that they look at the entire body of work........and 2 games doesn't constitute an entire body of work. All that Syracuse did throughout the season wasn't undone in a conference tourney quarterfinal. I just think it's hilarious that you think the committee is THAT fickle.

If Duke wins tomorrow, I think they'll be given a #1 seed. I would say that Cuse still gets a #1 seed because of their entire body of work, so I'm predicting the #1 seeds to be KU, UK, Cuse, and Duke.

That means that the #2 seeds would be OSU, WVU, K-State, and Georgetown.

After that, I'm not too sure. Lunardi has MSU as a #5 seed right now, which I think has to be wrong. He also has Maryland as a #6 seed, which might be a little low in my opinion. He's also projecting Butler at a #5.

    Here's my best guess...

    1. Kansas
    1. Kentucky
    1. Syracuse
    1. Duke

    2. West Virginia
    2. Ohio State
    2. Kansas State
    2. Georgetown

    3. Villanova
    3. Baylor
    3. Wisconsin
    3. Purdue

    4. Pittsburgh
    4. New Mexico
    4. Michigan State
    4. Temple

    1. Kansas

    3. Kentucky
    4. West Virginia

    5. Duke
    6. Ohio State
    7. Kansas State
    8. Villanova

    9. Wisconsin
    10. Temple
    11. Georgetown
    12. Purdue

    13. New Mexico
    14. Michigan State
    15. Baylor
    16. Butler

Purdue will not be a top 4 seed, not after losing Hummel and today's performance. IMO, they will be lucky to be a 5.
  • eersandbeers
Not that it maters either way, but for anyone to put Duke over WVU is asinine.

You might be right, but that doesn't make it right. They had one bad game against a good team who was fighting for their postseason lives. Their overall body of work has few rivals.

This assumes the committee doesn't get starry eyed when they see the name Duke, which I'm not convinced is possible.
  • wildcats20
The committee might look at an entire body of work, however they also have to consider that the current Purdue team is NOT one of the top 16 teams in the country.
  • wildcats20
Lunardi currently has Purdue as a 4 and dropping.

I agree. If Purdue would have advanced to the Big Ten final and Ohio State beat them, I probably would have moved Ohio State ahead of Duke for the top #2 seed. No one has a claim to the last #1 other than West Virginia.
  • Prescott
I am not sure you can select duke over WVU for this reason. Duke was thrashed by Georgetown. WVU defeated Georgetown twice. That has to carry some weight.

    Duke is 27-5
    WVU is 26-6

The teams with the three best records in the country are
    KU
    UK
    Syracuse

Teams with 4 or 5 losses include
Butler, Duke, BYU, Purdue, Temple, Northern Iowa, New Mexico

The 4th number one should come from this list. Who is most deserving?

also would like to point out the irony in the fact that when the ACC has upsets, and Duke has to play lower seeded teams like Miami, Georgia Tech and Virginia pundits say it is because the conference is so weak. WVU wins against teams who struggled in the regular season and their victory is called triumphant.

WVU played Cincinnati (not going to NCAA tournament, won on buzzer beater) Notre Dame (bubble team, won 2 point game) Gtown (only ranked team, but had 6? 7? losses in conference)

They have been fickle before. Wouldn't be a surprise to me. Don't forget, they take into account injuries and rate the teasm based on what they will be able to put on the floor. With the injury incurred for Syracuse it will affect their seeding just like it will for Purdue.

Given that same reasoning, it is common knowledge that they will look at OSU w/ Turner in terms of the regular season because that is the lineup they will have in the tourney. The 6 games played without him don't represent the team that will be tourney; and therefore, much stake won't be put into the 3 losses when he was absent from the lineup.

I also think WV had a better overall season including the conf tourney than Cuse. They deserve a 1 seed over Cuse.

Its because its the Big East and the media loves Big East bball like they love SEC football.

You know you can't just look at wins or losses. SOS and RPI come into play.

    Ok Then

    Duke #2 RPI #10 SOS #2 Sagarin
    WVU #4 RPI #3 SOS #5 Sagarin

Based on what we are seeing here, you would have to give it to WVU simply because they played a tougher schedule (by 7 spots)
Still not reason enough to leap a team with fewer losses in a conference that mathematically (Sagarin) is equal to the Big East. (both with .960 rating behind the Big 12)

    ccrunner,

You might be right regarding Syracuse, but I think I disagree. The committee is going to look at their entire body of work, and unless they drop them because of Onuaku's potential injury, they're going to be on the #1 line. They beat WVU in Morgantown, by the way, and have a better conference and overall record.
  • Prescott
WVU is 4-3 versus teams with a rpi ranking in the top 15
WVU is 7-4 versus teams ranked in the top 25

Duke is 1-3 versus teams with an rpi in the top 15.
Duke is 1-3 versus teams ranked in the top 25
  • centralbucksfan
Screw all of the SOS, RPI, etc, etc....WVU is better then Duke IMO.
    'Cuse
    UK
    Kansas
    WVU

    Duke
    OSU
    Kansas St.
    ??

I don't see GTown getting a #2. Had some BAD losses, very inconsistant. I know rankings mean nothing, but they were not in the top 20 at seasons send. Made a nice little run in BET......but that won't overshadow their entire season. This team was 5-5 in their last 10 reg season games.
  • wes_mantooth
I wouldn't be surprised if Duke gets a #1, but WVU definitely is the more deserving and better team.
