Huggins Stumping for #1 Seed
-
Prescott...“Nobody goes through what we go through in this league,” he told SI.com on Friday....but West Virginia’s roster of quality non-league wins (over Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Ohio State) is better than that of Duke’s (over Gonzaga)......
West Virginia is closing strong, too: it beat Georgetown and Villanova (in Philly) to close the regular season, and would win the Big East tournament with a run through Cincinnati (RPI: 59), Notre Dame (RPI: 43) and Georgetown RPI: 9). Duke, on the other hand, hasn’t beaten an NCAA tournament team since Virginia Tech on Feb. 21, and would win the ACC tournament by beating Virginia (RPI: 126), Miami (RPI: 106) and either Georgia Tech (RPI: 40) or N.C. State (RPI: 96). The Blue Devils should pray that they meet Tech in the final — otherwise their RPI could actually get worse. With such lackluster competition in the ACC, it’s unclear if sweeping that league’s regular-season and tourney titles is actually better than finishing second in the Big East and then first at Madison Square Garden.

cbus4lifeBased on the entire body of work, i would definitely put WVU over Duke.
-
athlete37Didn't Duke lose to Georgetown handily?
-
DeyDurkie5Duke isn't a one seed, WVU deserves it
-
purple_reinShould be WV if they win the Big East tournament.
-
SportsAndLadyDefinitely should be WVU, if they win tonight.
If they lose, but in a close game...I still say they should get it over Duke even if Duke wins it all. The stats don't lie, winning the ACC conference tourney is not impressive. -
ironman02If Duke wins the ACCT and WVU wins the Big East Tournament, I would be willing to bet that Duke gets the #1 seed. I haven't analyzed the two teams' schedules, quality wins, etc., but the committee will give preference to Duke. Not saying that it "should' be that way, but I would be shocked if they didn't give the #1 seed to K. The Duke name will help tremendously.

Replace Duke w/ UK, and you got it right.ccrunner609 wrote: Cuse doesnt deserve the #1 seed after bowing out early in the Tourney. Kansas, WV, OSU, Duke are my #1's -
killer_ewokSo forget about the entire body of work throughout the season and penalize a team for not beating their biggest rival a 3rd time this season. A rival that just happens to be ranked in the top 25.
That seriously makes no sense. Do you really feel that there are 4 better teams than Syracuse? And if were talking head-to-head amongst those teams being considered for a #1 seed.......Syracuse beat WVU AT Morgantown earlier in the year. -
SportsAndLadyAhhh shit I forgot about Syracuse haha
It's hard this year, becuase were so used to having 4 teams that are pretty much guaranteed the #1 or at the very most 5 teams. This year there's like 8 teams that could be a #1.
Obviously we have to wait and see how these conf. tourneys go, but I'd go with
KU
UK
Syracuse
West Virg
If WVU loses, then I'd put OSU in for them. If OSU loses in the conf. tourney (and WVU loses, too), then I'd put in Duke (assuming Duke wins the ACC). -
cbus4lifeMine is KU, UK, Syracuse, and either WVU, OSU, or Duke. The order for the last 1...WVU, OSU, Duke.
-
rock_knutneKansas, Kentucky and Syracuse are locks and the final 1 seed will be between WVU and Duke. If both win their conference tourneys, the nod has to go to WVU. If both lose, I'd give it to Duke.

Lol if Duke loses in the ACC Tourney, there is a 0% chance they get a 1 seed.rock_knutne wrote: Kansas, Kentucky and Syracuse are locks and the final 1 seed will be between WVU and Duke. If both win their conference tourneys, the nod has to go to WVU. If both lose, I'd give it to Duke.
If both lose, and OSU wins the Big Ten, it's OSU's. If all 3 teams lose, then it's WVU. -

Kansas, Kentucky, WVA and? Duke? OSU?ccrunner609 wrote: If WV wins then Cuse gets a #2.
I dont think there is a chance that Syracuse falls from a #1. -
gibby08No.1 seeds should be
Kentucky
Kansas
WVU
Duke or Kansas State(if they beat Kansas) -

Look who Syracuse was playing and look what they dealt with.ccrunner609 wrote:sportswizuhrd wrote:

Cuse gets bounced early in their Tourney and The B10/ACC teams that are ranked in the top 5-6 in the country win theirs.......pretty clear cut to me.
OSU and Duke both deserve a #1 with Kansas, WVU and Kentucky
-7th ranked team in the RPI ratings(higher than anyone Duke or OSU will play, WVA will play them too but Syracuse finishing ahead of WVA trumps that)
-their rival. How many teams can beat their rival three times in a year when both teams are that good?
-they were without Onakanu late in the game
-they won the Big East title OUTRIGHT. -

Just so I can clarify this: You put more emphasis on a 3 to 4 day tournament at the end of the season over a body of work for the entire season?ccrunner609 wrote:sportswizuhrd wrote:

Mr. 300OSU is not a #1 seed. A solid 2 seed, after getting to the Big Ten tournament final.

I was just about to edit and add it. The selection committee doesnt look at the last 10 games anymore, they look at the entire season. -
SportsAndLady
In any other year, they are not. This year, however, is different; the #1 seeds aren't clear cut and don't have as stellar resume's as a traditional #1 seed.Mr. 300 wrote: OSU is not a #1 seed. A solid 2 seed, after getting to the Big Ten tournament final.
If WVU loses, OSU will "slide into" that 1 seed if OSU can indeed win the Big Ten Tourney. -
killer_ewok
Bingo. Also, throw in there that they beat WVU AT Morgantown in their only head-to-head meeting this season if that should mean anything since they're up for consideration for a #1 seed.sportswizuhrd wrote:

Unless there is info that leaks out confirming the death of Arinze Onuaku......Syracuse will be a #1 seed.......as they should be. -
Cleveland BuckMy first three lines right now would be:
1. Kansas
2. Syracuse
3. Kentucky
4. West Virginia
5. Duke
6. Ohio State
7. Purdue
8. Kansas State
9. Villanova
10. Wisconsin
11. New Mexico
12. Temple -
reclegend22If Duke wins the ACC tomorrow, the Blue Devils take the one seed. If WVU wins, things get interesting.
If both Duke and WVU win, OSU has no shot.
