Notre Dame Considers Not Going It Alone

On what could be a slow basketball day at the Big East men’s basketball tournament, the biggest news on Tuesday may have come from Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick. With the Big Ten and the Pacific-10 considering expansion, he said, Notre Dame is being forced to consider giving up its football independence, among a range of options.

As an OSU fan, I'd love to have the Irish join the league. Great exposure and another source of revenue sharing.
  • sleeper
I'd like to have them join the Big Ten too, easy win for the likes of our bottom feeders.

I wouldn't care either way. It's neat that Notre Dame is an independent and is able to somewhat maintain a unique schedule. But the Big Ten Network is a tremendous advantage monetarily.

I expect 60% of this thread to be "They will be a middle-of-the-road Big Ten team."

Well what do you know, dipshit immediately proved me right.

They will be a middle-of-the-road Big Ten team.

Thank goodness they aren't letting in any SEC teams, OSU would probably never get a win!

ND is so importants this thread is worded a different way but exists today on Serious Business forum.

Notre Dame is not relevant, hasn't been for years.

I've always said that I like the thought of ND joining the Big 10. Let's face it, it makes sense from a geographical standpoint and even though ND recruits nationally....it couldn't hurt recruiting in the Midwest. I'm in favor of it. ND already plays Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Penn State every now and again. And I'd love the annual matchup with Ohio State. Imagine how fun this board will get that week.......

Here's the big question.....when ND is playing an OOC game or Bowl game.....do Buckeye fans who HATE Notre Dame root for them so the conference looks better? Or do they just continue to hope ND loses even though it doesn't make the conference look any better (especially to the media)? Because we know how much some OSU fans crave respect from the media for the Buckeyes and the conference as a whole (not saying that's unique to OSU fans but the complaining about the media's "treatment" of OSU is pretty common on here).

Which is why we belong in the Big 10! ;)
  • steel_curtain
Ehh... I'm not so much opposed to joining a conference as I am the Big 10. I'd rather not join a conference that blackballed ND for religious reasons in the past.

Do you hate the English because of the Revolutionary War? There's no reason to hate the Big Ten for what they did so far in the past.
  • rock_knutne
Not happening, too many alumni against it.

Personally, I'm over ND's arrogance on this issue.

    Screw them.

I don't want them in the Big Ten, and if I was the Big Ten, I'd ban every Big Ten team from being able to schedule them. Let them go outside the Midwest to find teams to fill their schedule.
  • Prescott
I agree with Writerbuckeye. From a selfish standpoint, I would prefer an east coast team. It would give the Big 10 a new media and might help recruiting in some eastern states.
  • killer_ewok
Maybe it's not so much arrogance as it is bitterness over being rejected by the Big 10 back in the day......

I know, I know....."that was a long time ago and they should let it go." Well, they might....and maybe some others should learn to do that too.

Oh noez!!! By the way, the Big 10 tried boycotting Notre Dame before, but we all know how that worked out. Up until recently from a business standpoint there was NO logical reason to join the Big 10. Imagine you own a business and some guy comes up to you and says, "Hey, join us! You won't get to keep your money, but you'll get to share it, you'll lose your TV contract, lose your ability to pick all of your employees, but people won't think you're arrogant anymore!"

I know of many businesses who like making deals where they lose a ton of money...

I actually do hate the English, not because of the revolutionary war though.

Because of the shit they pull with Ireland? haha

EDIT: Speaking of Ireland.... :D :D :D :D Notre Dame plays there September 1, 2012, and it recently came to my attention that the London Olympics are from late July to August 12, 2012. Well my cousin has very good chance to be wrestling in the Olympics, because he's already qualified for this year's World Cup. So I could be looking at a six-week vacation to the British Isles.....depending on whether or not Ohio State moves up the starting date when they switch to semesters that autumn. It really couldn't get any better for this Irish fan. :)

ND makes the most sense for the big 10.
  • sjmvsfscs08
I agree. If every school were available, the top three would be:

    1- Notre Dame

    2- Pittsburgh
    3- Missouri

Yes, because of the shit they STILL pull with Ireland. Also, I am excited for ND playing in Dublin, I will be going.
