Duke has about the best possible route to the championship game I could have asked for in the Duke Invite. The winner of BC-Virginia in the quarters and the winner of VaTech/Miami/Wake in the semis. Two teams I did not want to see before the finals were Maryland (which wasn't going to be a possibility anyhow) or Clemson. Although we've beaten them twice, the Tigers' press is always scary when it's on and they are shooting well. You just never know. FSU I'm glad is on the other side as well. Those kids have won in the ACC Tournament before, and would love for a chance to take Duke out after losing in the finals to the Blue Devils last year.

I see Duke and Maryland in the finals, a rematch of the '04 title game on the old green and purple floor of Greensboro. I have a feeling Maryland might win it, too.

If Carolina can get by Tech, I will be cheering (mutely) for the Heels to take out the Terrapins.
  • ohiotiger33
I like us to go to the semis. We have beaten FSU twice this season, and also have beaten NC State on the road.

    Here are my predictions:

    BC over UVA
    Wake over Miami
    GT over Carolina
    Clemson over NC State

    Duke over BC
    Va Tech over Wake
    Maryland over GT
    Clemson over FSU

    Duke over Va Tech
    Maryland over Clemson

    Duke wins it, unfortunately.

Only one upset in my picks if you go by seeding, which probably isn't likely. This year's ACC has been kind of weird, so I would expect a pretty unusual tournament despite my predictions.

Georgia Tech really needs a win, maybe even two, to make sure they get an NCAA bid. At this time, I think the ACC has six teams that will make the tournament (Duke, Maryland, Va Tech, FSU, Clemson, and Wake) and GT might still be able to make it in, depending on what they're able to do next week.
  • ohiotiger33
Good predictions. I would pick almost the exact same thing, except maybe Wake over Va Tech. I see Clemson losing to Maryland in the Semis as well.
  • Laley23
The only team capable of beating Duke is Maryland. I dont see it happening however.

Duke over Maryland in the finals. Havent done enough research yet to predict the other match-ups.
  • wildcats20
Clearly only one thing is going to happen this week.

Carolina will RUN through this stretch on to a 14 seed in the NCAA's and upset a 3 seed in the first round. And then I will wake up.

Duke should handle its way to the final and meet the Terps for a rematch of last Wednesday.

As a Duke fan I fear Virginia Tech in the tournament more so than Maryland.

Crazy I know, but the Hokies are the toughest defensive team in the league in terms of physicality and they really do an excellent job of taking Duke out of their offensive rhythm. They really beat down Duke and the games are always incredibly tight.

On a neutral floor I still think Duke is 10-14 points better than Maryland. Vasquez is a great player, but he can't beat Duke alone. Maryland has some experience in the backcourt, but in the front court they are so green I have trouble seeing them advancing without Williams really asserting himself. For a freshman, alot of him is asked. I doubt he can deliver.

    In any event
BC n (no Landesberg, UVA is dreadful)
Wake (Miami is not great, Wake will underperform still)
GaTech (Henson gets bullied, Will Graves trys to shoot them in, falls short)
Clemson (turnover ridden game Clemson escapes State)

Duke (pulls away late despite BC hitting virtually every shot they shoot in the first half)
Va Tech (makes it ugly, ish smith can't overcome pressure d)
GaTech (Favors, Lawal, Peacock abuse Maryland inside, negate Vasquez 34 point performance. Win in last minute)
FSU (Noles win going away as Ollie Purnell again has to sweat a sunday)

Duke (ekes one out in the closest game they will have in the tournament. I see a 68-66 final.)
FSU (Alabi stays out of foul trouble, frustrates favors, Noles pull away in 2nd half)

Duke in a rematch of last year's game. Scheyer and Singler go off from outside.
    Singler MOP of ACC tournament.
  • wildcats20
Ya know, I think FSU could make a run again. I kind of over look them for some reason, but they are a pretty solid team this year.

We haven't had to sweat a Sunday the past two years. 5 seed and 7 seed isn't really sweating it. I just don't see us losing to FSU after beating them twice already.

Lunardi actually had Clemson an ACC lock on Saturday. I'm not sure if that changed or not too drastically with a close loss to another ACC NCAA Tournament team in Wake, so I'd be inclined to say that the Tigers are officially in the Dance.

I still think Vasquez takes his team to the final out of the bottom bracket. Greivis certainly can't do it all, but he can come close. And he's carried this team on his back all season. I see no reason why he can't do it twice more later this week and get into the finals. Clemson-Maryland, if they play, could be a very entertaining game, depending on which Tiger team shows.
  • ohiotiger33
Yeah, it could be great, or terrible. Clemson has a hard time showing up if the game isn't at home.
  • swamisez
Clemson should get in at 21-9, however 21-10 would give the committee something to think about should there be upset winners of conference tournaments. 23 or 24 wins would put them above some of the also rans I would think.
  • swamisez
As for their performance, will Clemson shoot well enough to win a few games. IF they are going to win Trevor Booker needs MVP type performances.

So we can expect a tweet from Deon Thompson at around 9:15 EST stating how happy he is that the season is over...
  • swamisez
He apparently can't wait to graduate, but I doubt that a Senior would be ho-hum about his final game in college. If he is, then well that is an indicator of detachment from reality.
  • reclegend22
I think Deon's detachment from reality set in when he began locking himself in his apartment to play Fifa World Cup rather than be caught in public in Chapel Hill.

That speaks volumes about the season UNC is having. Perhaps more than the unpreventable 16 or 17 losses that will cap the 100th celebration of Heels.

  • mattinctown
I thought Aminu would get first team over Singler, but not complaining :) Nice to see Lance Thomas on the All-Defensive team. No beef with Vasquez getting POY or Williams COY, will be interesting to see how they do in the NCAA's.
  • ohiotiger33
    Congrats Booker!!!!

Adam Gold from 99.9 took Duke over Clemson in the final
Joe Ovies took Duke over Maryland.

The fact Gold thinks Clemson can win three games should give OT33 some hope. The guy talks ACC bball for a living.

Jared Zglinski for UVA is on fire. 6-9 from field 4-6 from three. UVA has a lead at half.
BC is asleep at the wheel. Maybe Al Skinner had too late of a wake up call.
  • Mulva
BC is on an 8-0 run to cut the UVA lead to 3.
  • mattinctown
UVA trying to ice this at the line, winner plays Duke tomorrow at noon......
