Rivalry In Blue: North Carolina at Duke - Cameron Indoor
-
reclegend22Everyone knows the generalities ... separated by eight miles of pines and a couple of shades of blue ... eight national championships ... 17 Final Fours ... Jordan, Laettner, Carter, Brand, Felton, Redick, Hansbrough, Scheyer. The greatest rivalry in the history of college athletics.
Duke took the meeting in February in the Dean Dome, setting the tone for a strong ACC finish in which the Blue Devils are looking for a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Carolina is fighting for its life, just trying to find a way to prolong its season in any way possible. They have been playing to their seven McDonald's All-American talent recently, which makes UNC dangerous. This is the same squad that took out Ohio State (with authority and with Turner) and Michigan State. They can beat Duke. They don't call it the "Grand Daddy of them All" for nothin.'
Round two. Tonight. -
slingshot4everWho calles it the grand daddy of them all? That is Keith Jackson's refernece to the Rose Bowl, haha

I will tell you later.slingshot4ever wrote:Who calles it the grand daddy of them all? That is Keith Jackson's refernece to the Rose Bowl, haha
Keith Jackson, however great a broadcaster he was, did not coin the term. This term is also commonly used in reference to the ACC Tournament, the father of all conference tournaments. It started it all. -
swamisezDuke is 14.5 point favorites. THat seems really high. Duke has beaten teams at Cameron by an average of 26ppg (unsure, but its high).
I think Duke wins in a real close one. -
mattinctownDuke in a close one, but wouldn't shock me to see Carolina win, they've had our number in Cameron lately.
-
september63i have been extremely critical of BOTH teams this year. Ill gladly take UNC +14.5. As a matter of fact, I have.

ironman02Carolina has won the last four times they have visited CIS, but this year's team is drastically different from those squads who got the job done in Durham. That said, Ginyard and Thompson know how to handle the environment in Cameron, and it will be important for them to keep the younger guys focused on the task at hand. The Heels have played a little better the last couple games, and I hope that the confidence and momentum from those wins will continue, but Wake and Miami are certainly no Duke.
I think Carolina will probably play well and keep it close for a while, but in the end, much like the game in Chapel Hill, Duke will unfortunately pull away. I would love nothing more than for the Heels to ruin yet another senior celebration for the d00kies, but I would think that Scheyer, Zoubek, and Thomas will notch their first win against Carolina at Cameron in their final game in front of those damn Crazies. I can already hear the predictable, and oh so clever, "NIT...NIT...NIT" chant resonating throughout the house that Hansbrough built. -

Noooo? You don't say. Lol.september63 wrote:i have been extremely critical of BOTH teams this year. -
ironman02Not that it really matters much, but McDonald is apparently not dressing tonight...strained hamstring. Graves has been in a walking boot for most of the week and Thompson has been receiving treatment for a back problem, but I think those guys are both playing. Carolina will be in even deeper trouble if those guys can't go the entire game. All these injuries this season better equate to perfect health next year.
-
ironman02Another interesting side note for Carolina fans.
Kendall Marshall and James McAdoo's teams both won state championships today. -
mattinctownI hear ya CC, I think either UNC wins or Duke blows them out, hopefully the latter!!!!

Now, I'm not sure you're giving the Crazies enough credit. They're intelligent enough to know that Carolina very well could finish the season 16-16, and miss the NIT. "CBI ... CBI ... CBI ... " might be the cheer. Time will tell. Either way I'll be yelling, tooironman02 wrote:I can already hear the predictable, and oh so clever, "NIT...NIT...NIT" chant resonating throughout the house that Hansbrough built.
Hopefully. A loss tonight would kill me. I'm nervous. I'm willing to admit it. -
ironman02I'm pretty sure you can make the NIT now even if you're at .500 or below. It just depends on if the NIT wants you, and I would think that the Carolina name would get them the bid. That said, since the rule change, I don't think a .500 or below team has been selected, so the CBI could be a possibility.

ironman02Why the hell is Erin Andrews wearing d00k blue? I don't like her anymore.
-
ironman02I'll go ahead and get this one in...
STOP LEAVING THE SHOOTERS!!!! -
ironman02I'm so sick of seeing that from Scheyer. I know it's legal, but that cutting corners stuff doesn't sit well with me.
-
Laley23Ironic because Reggie Miller is my favorite NBA player of all time. But I DESPISE when players kick their feet out to draw a foul.
-
ironman02Well, this is looking like it's gonna get out of hand quickly.
I wonder if the Nuggets are playing tonight. Maybe we could sneak Lawson into the #11 jersey at the under 12 timeout. -
karen lotzNice Scheyerface on front page of espn.com

ironman02LOL. Yeah, that's definitely a good one.

ironman02Apparently Singler can't miss. Hope this is his "senior night" also.

ironman02Loving the FT shooting from Carolina.

karen lotzWill Graves tries to bank a shot using the opposite corner of the box.
-
ironman02Why do they keep helping off shooters? I just don't get it!
