Why is Gameday at Duke?

  • slingshot4ever
I understand it is a big rivalry, but UNC sucks. This would be like gameday showing up to the OSU Um game the past two years. Pathetic.
  • Nate
In Duke/UNC match-ups, anyone can win. It's still the biggest college basketball rivalry. Will UNC win? Probably not. Will the game be exciting? Most likely.
  • ytownfootball
It's tradition. Rivalry games bring out the best in athletes, regardless of past performance.

I have no problem with it.

We've been over this before. These Game Day shows in college basketball are determined before the season even starts. The end.

Duke-UNC outdraws any other NCAAB rivalry.

Duke-UNC is a match up of two of the best programs, EVER

Duke-UNC is anything can happen, at anytime.

    Duke-UNC is college basketball

Duke-UNC is tradition, history, emotion, and pride.

UNC is still the reigning champs, Duke is still a top 5-7 program

Slingshot, I understand you still have issues with Roy leaving and winning two titles at his alma mater, but for goodness sake, let it go homie.

Everything you just said about Duke UNC is identical to what OSU UM is in college football, but Gameday doesn't show up for that game every year. ESPN needs to stop scheduling these all at the beginning of the year and do it on a weekly basis to ensure that they are going to a game with revelance on the national stage.
  • slingshot4ever
Also, my post has nothing to do with either of the coaches, just the fact that it isn't a game worth this much national recognition this year.
  • hoops23
    Duke-UNC is always worth it..

    FACT.

Besides, the best team in the nation was playing early today (Syracuse) so they couldn't be part of gameday @ Louisville.

Seriously though, what other match up would you have TODAY for gameday? It's Cameron indoor.. It's UNC vs Duke.. UNC has won the last 4 times in CID, with a couple of upsets in there..
  • slingshot4ever
    I would say WVU Villanova.
  • slingshot4ever
Basketball is handled alot different compared to football. Gametimes are determined so early where as with football game times arent usually determined more than 2 weeks prior. Used to only seeing gameday at top 25 matchups for football.

I will state it again for the hard of reading. Gameday is prescheduled in college basketball. Entering the season, Duke and UNC were top five teams. The end.

And everything LTrain said just adds to it.
  • slingshot4ever
I will also state again for the hard of reading. It is stupid, they need to do it like they do for football as schedule it the week of the games so that they go to a game where two good teams are playing.
  • reclegend22
    Well they don't.

So that is that. Gameday's at Cameron. Sorry bout your luck.
  • End of Line
Isn't today the last basketball game at Freedom Hall??? If so, ti should've been there.

    Yeah, because that SCREAMS ratings!

No matter what you think, Duke-UNC draws in the crowd..

It's kind of like Boston vs New York, even when one of them are having a down year and may be missing the playoffs, ESPN still pimps the hell out of those match ups.. Same with LA-Boston in the NBA..

Even when one of the other teams were down, those match ups were still highlighted..

    It's life, get over it.

Lets not forget ESPN has gameday. Any game on CBS/BTN/etc is not going to be eligible.

Oh yeah, ESPN was all over Boston when Rick Pitino was their head coach, what a joke.

Wrong. Thery have gone to plenty of SEC games for football that were then on CBS. As well as Notre Dame home games (NBC)

Didnt know we were discussing football here...
  • slingshot4ever
We are discussing the selections for ESPN gameday. Relates to all sports. If you even bothered to read the first post I discussed how ESPN hasnt gone to OSU UM these last two years because UM has blown. So why are they at this game when UNC blows. ESPN gameday (football or basketball) is known for going to games where both teams are highly rated, but UNC is as much garbage as UM is in football.

And im telling you there are factors involved. It doesnt just translate across the board. ESPN uses the gameday crew as the announcers for their game. It is always the primetime game. It is always on ESPN. I fail to see how this has anything to do with football. The circumstances are completely different. You cant make a comment basing it on ESPNs coverage of sports when you dont know what has to be done with contracts, set-up, etc.
  • slingshot4ever
So because I don't know what the contracts are means I can't ask the question?
  • reclegend22
slingshots is just angry that GameDay's at Duke. The Duuuukkkkeeee Blllluuuueeeeeeee Deeeevvvviiillllllllsssssssssssssssssssss.

Haha, let him continue crying over this pointless subject.

    Carolina at Duke, GameDay 3-6-10.

I never said you couldnt ask the question. I was just telling you why with my original post. You told me I was wrong so I was just telling you what goes into it.

You can ask the question....Id expect you would want the answer (which I gave you).

The matchup they are covering bothers me, not the fact they are at Duke.
