Conference Tournament discussion

Still very early, but 7 minutes into the game Siena trails Manhattan 16-4.

Wichita State taking on Illinois State right now. Wish that one was on TV.

Big South championship has been a pretty good one. Winthrop is up 4 on Coastal Carolina.
  • Azubuike24
Winthrop may really come from down and beat CCU on their home floor.
  • Azubuike24
The first "surprise bid" goes to Winthrop, the 2010 Big South Champs.
  • Mulva
Winthrop is looking at a 16 seed I would think. I don't think they have the ability to hang with a top team, but they certainly won't be intimidated.

Manhattan still leads Siena at half, 40-36.

East Tennessee State and Mercer in a close one to determine the Atlantic Sun and probably a 16 seed, especially if Mercer wins. Next up on Espn 2 is the OVC with Murray State/Morehead State.
  • mattinctown
Murray State up 12 with under 4 left, looking like they will make it. They could give their first round opponent some fits, might have to pick them in a pool.

Will that get you guys home court for the NIT first two rounds? lol.
LOL I had to laugh at that.

Honestly, I have to get the shots in while I can. It won't likely last long.

UNI hangs on as many bubble teams are happy.

VCU beating Old Dominion early in the 2nd half. I think the winner of that game wins the CAA, so keep an eye on it.

The SoCon semifinals are tonight with Wofford taking on Western Carolina and Charleston taking on Appalachian State.

Same with the Sun Belt quarters, some great match-ups, especially Western Kentucky (still the favorites IMO) against Arkansas State, who is the tournament host.

VCU and ODU heading to overtime. Nice comeback from the Monarchs after trailing by 12 midway through the 2nd half.

    Games to watch tonight

Sun Belt Semi-Final #1 - Troy vs Western Kentucky - Troy is an athletic team with multiple BCS conference transfers. Western Kentucky is the most talented team in the Sun Belt and have been red hot winning 8 straight. I think the winner of this one takes the Sun Belt quite easily and can do damage in the NCAA Tourney.

MAAC Final - Fairfield vs Siena - Fairfield lost to Siena by 8 and 2 points respectively, and will have to get over the hump to get an NCAA bid. The Saints, despite their recent NCAA success, only get another trip to the dance with a win tonight.

CAA Final - William & Mary vs Old Dominion - William & Mary is a good story, they hung on all year and had a tough path to make the finals. However, ODU beating VCU in OT was their toughest hurdle, and they should win the CAA tonight. If W&M wins, the CAA might get 2 bids as ODU has a great resume.

Southern Final - Appalachian State vs Wofford - For awhile there, the SoCon was all about Charleston and Western Carolina, and many felt those were the likely finalists even after the season ended. However, these are actually the #1 seeds, and I'm thinking Wofford makes the big dance. They are red hot winners of 12 straight conference games.

WCC Final - St. Mary's vs Gonzaga - St. Mary's has won 78 games over the past 3 seasons, but have lost 6 straight to Gonzaga and have been beaten in WCC Tournament by the Zags 5 times in the last 9 years. They have never beaten Gonzaga in the WCC Tournament. The Gaels are 25-5, and their at-large bid hopes are on the line tonight. A loss and they are sweating.

Siena and Western Kentucky are both playing like absolute garbage early on.

Why is ESPN cutting into the William & Mary game on ESPN to visit the UConn women's game when that game is already being televised on ESPNU?

Give me a frickin' break. (I'm sorry that a girl is hurt in that game) No one CARES about that game or the girls hoops winning streak if they aren't already watching ESPNU.

Siena looking like they might burst a bubble. They are down 11 at half to Fairfield. I think Siena would still grab a bid.
  • Azubuike24
Siena won't get a bid. No chance. It will be a big time disappointment if Fairfield beats them.

Yep, just looked at their resume (which I hadnt before that post). Im SHOCKED people thought they might steal a bid. They got no chance with a loss.
  • Azubuike24
They got whipped pretty good by Butler. Had they won that game and gone unbeaten in the MAAC, they probably would get an at-large bid.

    WKU and Siena battling back.
  • Laley23
Ugh. For whoever is watching the Siena game....I HATE when players screw up that type of break because they didnt use a bounce pass. The only way that pass is tipped is if it isnt a lob or bounce pass and thats what he did.
  • Mulva
Franklin is a damn good player. Much better off the dribble than I remembered him being last year. The only other time I saw Siena this year they beat Rider by about 30, so it was hard to make any judgments. He's getting the hoop almost at will off of the bounce though.
  • Mulva
AJ Slaughter is having a terrible game for WKU. If he heats up at all they'll be in good shape.
  • Azubuike24
    The cream starting to rise.

Siena down 2, WKU down 3.
  • Azubuike24
Sick follow dunk by Jeremy Evans.

WKU with the ball only down 2. They are starting to take control after a horrid start. They SHOULD come back and win.
  • Mulva
WKU down 3 again. A terrible possession ended in a Slaughter air ball. He is really costing them this game, after almost single-handedly winning the last one.
  • Azubuike24
WKU needs a stop and a 3 to keep their Sun Belt Tourney streak alive.
  • Azubuike24
Richard Delk puts it away with that 3-pointer anyway. I look for Troy to rather handily beat UNT/Denver tomorrow night. WKU will head to the NIT.
  • Mulva
Old Dominion wins the CAA. They're a solid team. Could definitely win a game or 2 next weekend.

I don't see Fairfield being able to beat Siena in OT.
