Duke at North Carolina
-
RiverRat13The greatest rivalry in college basketball takes place Wednesday night.
I see the Heels keeping it close in the 1st half, trailing by four at the half. Then Duke puts Carolina away early in the 2nd and cruises to a 15 point win. Carolina just doesn't have the overwhelming athletic edge that they had the last few seasons and Duke is much more skilled. -
ironman02I'm definitely not optimistic going into this game. My prediction would be pretty close to yours, RiverRat13. I'd say Carolina will keep it close for a while, then Duke will pull away to win by 10+.
That said, I'm hoping that the rivalry game, along with Hansbrough's jersey retirement, brings out the best in this Carolina team. I would love nothing more than to continue the recent dominance over Duke and get this season turned around. I know it's doubtful, but that's what I'll be hoping for on Wednesday night. -
wildcats20I'm hoping Psycho T has a little pre game speech prepared for these guys.
-
swamisezAs a Duke fan I am fully expecting Carolina to make this a real tight ball game. Should be within a few possessions. If it was a carbon copy of the Michigan State game I wouldn't be surprised.
It would be nice if Scheyer and Singler came out firing, but since it is a road game one can assume they won't shoot the lights out.
Should Carolina find a way to win, I may just crawl in a hole until march. -
reclegend22At 13-10 (2-6 in the ACC), Carolina's recent valley (sky diving free fall) has put the Heels in honest jeopardy of missing the NIT, or acquiring a much lower seed for the NY-based tourney than originally anticipated. Maybe it's time Roy start utilizing that palatial passion of his, which he says he has more of in his "tiny pinky toe" than do all Carolina fans combined. If this Mt. Everest of Roy affectivity comes out tomorrow night, Duke might as well not even make the trip.
Despite Carolina's out-of-control spiral, however, this game will indeed be a close one, IMO.
It's Duke and North Carolina, North Carolina and Duke. The greatest rivalry in all of sport. The tradition that seeps from these two schools that are located just eight miles apart, separated by only a forest of pine and a couple of shades of blue, is untouchable. Seven national championships, 32 Final Fours, 34 conference championships, 55 conference first place finisher cloths, 17 national players of the year and arguably the two greatest coaches in the history of college basketball, Dean Smith and Michael Krzyzewski.
I can't wait for tip. I feel like it's tonight. As swami pointed out, though, I'm also nervous as hell because a loss to this year's glorified AAU team in Chapel Hill would be of catastrophic proportions, one of those trump card type of games that could sit with Blue Devils fans for a long, long time. If there isn't a supreme being out there, we'll know it Wednesday night. -
swamisezCarolina fans are real quiet, fearing another 20 point L. Their guard play is so suspect that the fan-base has no real expectations anymore. They won't be quiet Wednesday night unfortunately.
I decided to find a way in to the Christensen Center for this game. Don't care what it costs me.
The question, do I wear my Duke shirt? -
reclegend22I'd walk into the mausoleum wearing the skin of a Blue Man Group member if I could get my hands on tickets. Although, that also means I'd have to commit a homocide. It'd be rough, but worth it to be authentically blue.
Pardon my strange tangent there. Lol. But to answer your question, yes, I'd wear a Duke tee. Actually, I have the perfect item hanging in my closet right now. An "I Hate North Carolina" shirt. It'd look nice tipped off with a Duke cap.
I'm sure Carolina fans are a different breed in the Dome, so I'm not sure what the consequences of wearing a Nike Duke shirt amongst so many Wal-Mart faithful are, but whenever I attend a Duke game on the road, I love sitting right inside the enemy's camp in all my blue glory. Trash talk at sporting events is a national pastime. -
Ironman92Carolina will play their best game in weeks. They will hit more outside shots....they will get to the hoop and draw more fouls and foul shots and Duke won't be very good.
UNC 75
Duke 67 -
swamisezI am gonna have to scalp tix. So what I am saying is it could be the difference between spending 125 to 250 for a single.
To the Carolina faithful I could get in for the prior, if I was in Duke gear they will try to shut me out, or at least charge me close to 3 bills.
I wouldn't do any trash talking. Just quietly cheer on my team, and keep my comments positive. -
mattinctownRecLegend and Swamisez: I found a single ticket to the game tomorrow on Craigslist for $100, thinking about going, but there are tickets out there for not a whole lot
-
burt07I fully expect it to be a very close game. Duke just hasn't been good on the road (sans Clemson) and I wouldn't expect that to change in a rivalry game such as this. I think Duke can definitely pull it out but by the skin of their teeth.

I think you better take that offer. If I weren't in Ohio, I'd make the trip to CH and try and find a way in. We're getting buried in snow right now, so I'll probably be stuck inside all day waiting. Too damn long before this one starts. Feels like an eternity.mattinctown wrote:RecLegend and Swamisez: I found a single ticket to the game tomorrow on Craigslist for $100, thinking about going, but there are tickets out there for not a whole lot
I may have to consider this next March when the weekend game is in Chapel Hill. Might have to fly down and get into the Dome. -

This season 13-10 and NIT. -
wildcats20I wish I had a pic for another 2nd round exit.....
-
wildcats20But seriously Rec, I will be looking into tickets to next year's game at the Dean Dome. Mini huddle get together on Franklin St???

Drinks at Top of the Hill. That night's loser pays for round two afterward?wildcats20 wrote:Mini huddle get together on Franklin St???
I'm going to make it a concerted effort to get there. It's been a life long dream, and I need to make it happen. -
wildcats20Sounds good. Even if I don't get a ticket, I am going to be on campus for the game.
Same here. I've always said I will see one there and at HIS, I mean CIS. -
ironman02I've always wanted to watch a Carolina-Duke game at the Dean Dome. If you guys actually make it down there next year, I may have to be a part of this too.
I haven't been to Chapel Hill for quite some time. I've only been there a couple times, but I just love that place. -
wildcats20I've been to 2 games in the Dean Dome. Cleveland St. in '04, sat in the row directly behind the CSU bench and Florida St. the year before last. Which was senior night for Quentin Thomas and others.
I've posted it before, but my seats for the CSU game:
For a Carolina fan, it doesn't get better than seeing a game in the Dean Dome. -
ironman02Amazing seats, wildcats20. Bet that was great.
Read some quotes from today's press conference. Roy said that Carolina had a pretty mediocre practice on Monday. Hope practice was much better today, because if it wasn't, I'm even more pessimistic about tomorrow night. A win over Duke would do wonders for the team's confidence, and possibly propel them into a nice run down the stretch. I haven't given up hope that in the last 8 games, and the ACCT, this team can somehow get to 19 or 20 wins and have a shot at the big dance. Wins over OSU, MSU, and Duke would look pretty impressive on that resume. Probably not gonna happen, but you never know.
Hope Syraucse and UConn don't decide to play a billion OTs tomorrow night. It would be nice to see Carolina-Duke in its entirety. -
reclegend22I believe it's Louisville-UConn and yes, there is almost guaranteed to be an overtime and/or 18 minutes of missed Duke-Carolina action.
Sucks, but ESPN is too big of **** to not know that it has 8 free alternate channels that do nothing but play chateau jazz.
If I wanted to drink spritzer and watch your logo with elevator music playing I might not be so upset, ESPN. As it stands, I hate you. -
reclegend22My mistake, it is Syracuse. Not sure why I thought otherwise.
-
wildcats20UConn at Syracuse before this one.
Because you're a Dookie.
