From what I have seen, that applies to a few of the ND guys. How many of the 20-25 guys are getting recruited like that?

How many recruits go to another school due to being more of an athlete than a student? ND is not going to get the Plaxico Burress or Andy Katzenmoyer types.
Please! Randy Moss was a moron in high school, and Notre Dame gladly welcomed him, until he got into that fight his senior year, and Notre Dame pulled his scholarship.

Not everyone is going to be like Florida and USC when it come to recruiting, not even the almighty OSU.

There's been a lot more than just "a few" as you say. Here's a list of guys that committed to ND in the last two years that received multiple offers from big time schools:

    Class of 2014:
Hendrix, Andrew- OSU, TN, MIA, FL
    James, Matt- OSU, FL,
    Jones, Tai-ler- OSU, GA
Nix, Louis- MIA, FL, FSU, UM
    Welch, Alex- UM, OK, FSU

    Class of 2013:
    Evans, Shaquelle- USC, LSU
    Motta, Zeke- FSU, MIA, FL
    Te'o, Manti- USC
    Wood, Cierre- USC, FL

There's even more but I'm not going to go back find them all. I'd say under Weis, a quarter to a third of the players he signed had multiple big time offers. ND hasn't hauled in players like that since Holtz.

That is where I expected it to be, 4-8 range of big time offer players per class. Not sure how that translates into top 10-15 recruiting class each year.

There is more than that, he just didn't go too deep.

If you look at ND's roster, most have big time offers.

I'll list a couple more just from the 08 class:
    Crist: LSU, USC
    Floyd: UF, OSU
    Rudolph: OSU, Miami, UM, UT
    Clelland: FSU, UM, Neb
    Filer: UM, OSU
    Fleming: USC, OK, UM
    J. Gray: UM, Neb
    E. Johnson: USC, UM, UO
    KLM: Texas, UM
    D. McCarthy: OSU, UM, OK, PSU
    Robinson: UM, Neb
    Slaughter: UGA, OK, UM
    Walker: USC, Cal, UT, PSU
    H. Williams: PSU
    Posluzny: GT, WVU, Pitt
    Goodman: UM, Iowa
    McDonald: UO, Cal
    Blanton: UGA, VT, UM
    Cave: UM

Thats just the 08 class, going to be juniors. I could go on.

Good post steel_curtain. The old "recruits don't think ND is relevant anymore" is just plain stupid. ND is still getting top notch talent - unfortunately these kids were not getting top notch coaching. Hopefully this is changing for the better, and ND can finally establish some stability on the coaching front. There will be a lot of pissed off people IF ND starts consistently winning again, and the tops kids continue to roll in much easier and even more frequently. Even with a very mediocre record over the past 10 years, the kids are still coming in. We have heard it several times with the incoming class - ND is still basically recruiting itself. Hell, Nix verballed and ND didn't even have a head coach yet.

Thanks for the additions steel. As I said, ND is getting kids that many other successful programs offered.

That's why Charlie Weis was fired. The one thing Weis should get credit for is landing blue chippers like the one's listed above, in all reality that hasn't happened since Holtz was there.

Exactly. There has been enough talent there to be a New Year's Day Bowl team on a consistent basis (and to actually win one of those occasionally). It's the coaching that has held it back IMO.

I am confused, we gotta get this figured out. Are all of the ND recruits overhyped? Or, does ND do less with more? Its got to be one or the other.

Bigapplebuckeye, why is it that when I said Ohio State seems to do less with more, followed by reasons I believe this, all you could do is compare the Buckeyes to a Terrible program like ND. Is that the measuring stick you have fpr your Buckeyes? Seems that ND is still very relevant and you are trying to convince everyone else that it is not. Ha, Ha, Ha, . Come on man, let it go, just let it go. You will feel better. get over your bitterness. LOL.

It's ok, I understand. Good effort though, champ.

    I am still right. I don't try, I succeed.

ND gets talent, no doubt about it. During the recruiting process they snag recruits that I wish Ohio State would have gotten.

The difference is, when ND obtains this talent, they THEN are heralded as the next greatest thing since sliced bread. The sad part is most of them end up losing 4 bowl games, and working at a car dealership after they graduate, when they could have gone to a better school and won National Championships and got a job playing in the NFL.

Where are these ND commits heralded as the best thing since sliced bread??? Most of us certainly aren't saying that. So who? Beano Cook opened his mouth years ago and talked crazy about Ron Powlus. Is that still somehow being held against ND fans. We're not responsible for Beano. Clausen didn't have great team success at ND....but he will have a job in the NFL. A likely top 10 pick. Golden Tate will do pretty good for himself as well (late 1st round-early 2nd).

Working at a car dealership? Or end up as the AD at THE Ohio State University.

Jimmy Clausen really? The last great ND QB to try to play in the NFL is sitting second fiddle to Derek Anderson on one of the worst teams in the league. Clausen will be selling cars before we know it.

I'm not predicting that Clausen will or won't be a Brady Quinn-type at the next level. The point is he's a sure fire 1st round pick.....most likely top 10. Therefore he'll have a "job playing in the NFL."

Yeah, working at a car dealership thats what they do. Remember Ambrose Wooden. He didn't make the NFL, so he went on to take a job at Goldman Sachs in NYC.
  • Mr Pat
Playing second fiddle? You mean being the starter? As for National Championships, like I said earlier, depending on your age you and I have seen the same amount of national championships each school has won. Then again, if you're older than that, you've seen more NCs for Notre Dame then you have OSU...
  • Mr Pat
And lastly, come on you guys, you really think Sleeper believes what he's typing about car dealerships. His thing is to rile people up about how great a school OSU is and it's better than life itself. He doesn't believe it, he just likes riling people up.
