Is there any team that does less..

Can't believe it took this long for someone to mention Georgia.

South Carolina is another underachiever relative to their recruiting talent, unless all those services are just horrible judges of talent.

Depending on your age, you and I have seen the same amount of national championships for both Notre Dame and OSU. LOL

When you look at the players that ND puts into the NFL, I'm not sure that they have as much talent as is sometimes believed. For the most part, I think the NFL draft is a better measure of talent than how many stars someone is given during high school.

Especially if it's Tom Lemming giving the stars. Automatic extra star if you are a ND committ. Anyway your post can be true to a point. However, some of that is just not developing young talent into NFL prospects. So again that goes on the school and the coaches.

I guess you have to throw Ohio State in there. They have recruited from one of the best states for high school football, they have endless financial support, great fan support, one of the largest alumni spread all over the country and they have one national title since 1968!!!! Sometimes I am amazed at how happy their fanbase is with being "not quite good enough".

Come on now, they just started recognizing 1970 as a championship year within the last couple years so that gives them 2. Also, its all about winning the Big 10!!! lolz :dodgy:

This is seriously it. ND committs are hyped up once they are ND committs. If Kelly can get as much clot as Holtz did, they can bring in a good amount of actual star players (quality and quantity). The Academics of ND hold them back a bit on getting the stars that are boarderline in the classroom. They are not playing with an equal playing field. I think that there is a reason Army, Navy, Duke, Northwestern, Stanford and Vanderbilt are not football powers in the present.

I think they most definitely have talent, however to what extent the talent is being developed for the next level should probably be more of a focus point.

Remind me, who won the last three head-to-head matchups between Notre Dame and OSU?

No need to reply, like I said, Notre Dame fans are cute, they remind me of my grandpa talking about the "Good Old Days." Yawn.

So Notre Dame fans are talking about the "Good Old Days"? Its funny you bring up the last 3 ND/OSU matchups. When did the first two of those take place?? Typical bucknut bullshit, drawing an arbitrary line to let everyone know when football became relevant.

This can be argued too. Under Cooper OSU had some dominate teams. But we all know what would happen at the end of the season. Also, OSU fell short twice in the NCG recently. One they came in so overconfident and cocky it bit them. The other they probably didn't really belong there and that game was closer than it looked. A bad chain of events just before half and it could have been different. But yes OSU should have had at least 2-3 more national titles in the last 20 years with the talent they have had.

Draw the line when you like -- similar to why you never see me talk smack about Florida (a team that worked us over), I always chuckle when I see Notre Dame fans spout off about the Buckeyes. We own you, know your place.

You own nothing! Maybe in your case a 1975 Ford Pinto!

Finally, a logical post. Weis couldn't develop what he had (except for the QB) and neglected to heavily recruit defensive linemen.

I've said this a hundred times on here but for some reason it doesn't apply to ND. If the recruits ND brings in are so over hyped, then why do most of these kids have multiple offers from just about every big time CFB in the country? Can someone answer that one for me?

Funny how you mention 1975 ... I am sure that year is near and dear to your heart, seeing that during that decade the Irish actually had some clout in the college football landscape :P

I'm curious BigApple, you get all angry when Notre Dame fans talk about OSU, but do you get equally upset when OSU fans talk about the SEC? Or do you pick and choose because you're an OSU fan?

I don't get angry at all actually, I just find the constant bantering interesting, considering their recent string of futility.

But to answer your question, I think its absolutely ridiculous when my fellow Buckeye fans talk smack about the SEC. I have some fun with the SEC fans on this board, but I base my feedback on facts, knowing full well OSU's bowl goose egg against them.
  • Mr Pat
So if Notre Dame fans were to say, "At least we beat Purdue!" Would that be "having fun with OSU fans basing their feedback on facts"?

Mr Pat wrote: So if Notre Dame fans were to say, "At least we beat Purdue!" Would that be "having fun with OSU fans basing their feedback on facts"?
While that would be a good basis for an argument, it is a bit desperate. Until Notre Dame starts qualifying for some high-profile bowls or beats Ohio State, any smack talk from their fanbase is futile and holds no weight. I am sure you agree.

I don't see too many Ohio State fans responding with "well we beat Navy!" ... then again, maybe they are :P
  • Mr Pat
I do agree completely, Notre Dame has been awful for quite some time and is a FAAAR cry from where OSU is. It could also be mentioned depending on your age we have the same amount of national championships for our schools. Or if you were old to see OSU's one before 2002, you'd seen 3 for Notre Dame. I'm not one to compare the two because I know OSU is better.

On that same token any smack talk from the OSU fanbase is also futile and holds no weight.

Why stop at Navy though? You could have also used Michigan. ;)

From what I have seen, that applies to a few of the ND guys. How many of the 20-25 guys are getting recruited like that?

How many recruits go to another school due to being more of an athlete than a student? ND is not going to get the Plaxico Burress or Andy Katzenmoyer types.
  • Mr Pat
    Carson Palmer comes to mind.
