VCA is a joke and is the SOLE reason why the basketball program has been steadily losing money. The $$ shelled out for the fancy suites and courtside leather seats is not going to make up for the 8,000 people who don't show up because the atmosphere is terrible and the interest for OSU basketball isn't that large. If I wanted to go see basketball at an NBA arena I'd go to see the Cavs.

The "atmosphere" isn't what is keeping fans away haha. Please

They didn't have a problem selling tickets when Oden and Co. were at OSU. The same will go if the next class coming in has a big year. If you put a good product on the court, the fans will come.

    Jordo, that's not completely true.

I know plenty of fellow students that won't want to schlep themselves all the way to VCA to an arena where their crowd noise is dampened by the NBA size arena.

We should play more games at St. Johns, I know OSU tries to play a couple of early season games there a year, although I don't think they did this year.

I'm not in the stands during games at VCA I'm up in the broadcast booth. I also broadcasted the OSU-CSU game from the Q a couple winters ago, and they have very similar feels. I think it's definitely fair to say students would have more fun at St. John's where crowd noise is much more effective.

Consider Ohio State football. If students don't want the tickets they can sell them to somebody else (I know because I've bought them) and the seats are always full in the shoe. It works the same at Value City (or should at least) if students don't want the tickets they can sell them. The problem is casual folk who could care less about screaming their lungs out don't want them either.

Ohio State is a football school first and always will be. There are a fair amount of basketball fans but it is never going to reach the football program's level. And don't give me that garbage about how high up you are as a student at Value City. The football seats for students are high up too, but they still yell.

The problem with Ohio State's basketball program is that the fans are largely indifferent to the basketball team

That was a rare exception of a year. Not to mention this can't just be judged by Men's Bball. Women's bball usually closes off the upper bowl and struggles to fill the bottom bowl, same with hockey. Not to mention that VCA leads to problems with scheduling concerts and things against Nationwide Arena (which is 10000 times better).

Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but I don't know how the higher ups in the OSUAD didn't see renovating St. John as a better option. VCA is too big, and is a burden on the entire OSU community. Not to mention it is arguably one of the worst college basketball atmospheres in the country. I've been at VCA for some of their biggest, loudest games (the Illinois upset, Wisconsin 07, Dayton NIT) and it doesn't even TOUCH the noise level I heard in my only bball game at St. John (Cal in the NIT '08). Talk about pathetic considering the Schott has thousands more seats.

Watch the games on the tube. Problem solved. I don't have a problem with it. But watch out if the Buckeyes go Michigan in poor performance. Then the prices will have to be readjusted.

Who I have a problem with is the NCAA and their silly, anticapitalism model.

I usually just threaten to beat up sleeper and he gives me his tickets and if its a game I don't want to see I sell them. Its a win-win for me and sleeper.

Dont expect VCA to go anywhere any time soon.... they're talking about building an auxilary practice space that will house 4 full size basketball courts for both men and women since they only have one auxilary gym in VCA and that creates practice conflicts....

And using scalping as a way to beat it won't help. You think they don't know ticket prices went up $7 too?
someone needs to take economics 101. obviously if they sell they are not over priced
The irony here is he attends Cincinnati, yet is calling OSU fans idiots
I don't go to Cincinnati you fucking degenerate moron.
Doesn't matter, with your logic, you'll be lucky to find a job at McDonalds, and that ain't no lie!

I paid 218 for my ND season tickets which allowed me to see losses to USC, UConn and Navy... But for real, this isn't that big of a deal. ND's regular admission tickets were 68 last year and when I went to the Big House I believe it cost me 70. Sounds comparable to the horseshoe

That's like trying to compare the price you paid for your Ford Escort to what someone paid for their Rolls-Royce.:D

And don't expect to see that addition built anytime soon. Nobody is donating money for it and OSU has too many other projects right now that take precedence like the new Ohio Union. I'd be surprised if that addition/gym was built within the next 5-10 years.
