First Boise St has a blue field, now a red one in Washington?

    No rule exist.

Rule 1.2.1.a says the yard lines must be white, except the goal line may be a different color.

    Beyond that, no color restrictions.

That would be cool. They rocked the camo unis in the Navy game last year.
    ...and then Navy "rocked" them.

    Bravo Zulu :)

I'll bet it looks pretty cool in HDTV---too bad we'll never see it :p

Count me in as someone who can't stand to watch a game on that field... the blue just makes the game difficult to watch.

I think the NCAA has to put a stop to this now.

I don't think the NCAA needs to regulate based on how fans think it looks on TV.

I think he means because it could get ridiculous. What's stopping Texas Tech from having a black field or PSU having a white field and wearing their all white unis. It creates a truly unfair advantage for the home team. I remember reading something about Harvard or Yale painting footballs on their jerseys back in the late 1800s-early 1900s to make it hard for the other team to know who actually had the ball. This is on the same lines.

To me this is cheating. I truly do not think that Boise State would have a 51 home game winning streak if it wasn't for the blue field and ALL BLUE Unis. It has to be hard on a quarter back to differentiate between the field and defenders. Or a defense to see the running back on the field.

    White field is illegal.

Yea I realized that after I typed it. You get my point though

do we then assume that teams like Michigan State are "cheating" when they wear their home "green"???
  • benole
Or maybe any team that wears a brown or even a Maroon jersey, because that helps the ball "Blend in"???

As a Montana alum, EWU grasping for attention doesn't surprise me at all.

I understand your point with the greens and the maroons, but I think that these are "natural" parts of football. Grass is supposed to be green, the football is traditionally brown.

"Supposed to be" is subjective, and not the best way to base rules.

Does "traditionally" work better for you?
  • bigkahuna
I still stick to my original wording of "natural."

For example...crowd noise from people screaming and the design of the stadium is a natural thing, but piping in noise over the loud speaker is a completely different story.

I was hoping Big Red would have went with a red field back in 04....or black, but people are too conservative around here for that.

If I ever had the money to donate the turf it would be red or black...you have been warned! lol
