2010 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament - Congratulations to the Ohio Bobcats!

Yeah, I was VERY excited about Bassett's prospects at IU, but it just wasn't meant to be. He's a damn good ball player and I'm glad he got to continue his career elsewhere.

Quote from the presser (from my friend working for MACReportOnline.com)

Armon Bassett: "We never won a conference championship in Indiana".

I think your Flashes can make some noise in the NIT though.... they are still the best in the MAC, I mean 43 RPI teams are not flukes... Ohio just figured it out at the right time.

I agree. I'm actually somewhat excited, because Kent didn't have a team that could have made any real noise in the tournament this year anyways--in fact, for upset purposes I like OU's chances better because they have a legit top level player. But I think they could make a run at the NIT. Can't have a let down like they did against OU though, obviously.

And whatever Bassett! Talking shit on my Hoosiers right now is easier than Jenna Jameson! OU is also shocked to be in the tournament, IU is shocked when they aren't in the tournament. :)

Yeah Bobacats. I was one of very few to pick them to win.

I picked it!!! I am the GOAT of picking the MAC tournament!!!

Full Disclosure: this Bobcat picked Kent State before it all started :(

This Kent Stater picked the Flashes too. Not sure why we doubted a former Hoosier. ;)

I'm willing to bet that OU loses by 20 points in the first round. They really aren't a very good team. They just got lucky at the right time.

That is one key part in the story of March Madness.

I also picked the Bobcats to win the championship.

We got one team in the NCAA and one in the NIT. Why is the MAC so bad? The same thing happened in football. We have only won one bowl game in the past three years. We need to start doing a lot better than this.
  • Heretic
    ^^
In football, we (along with the Sun Belt) are the smallest and weakest I-A conferences. As far as competing nationally and winning bowl games, we're just at a disadvantage.

In basketball, I'm hoping we're just in a down period. In the mid-90s (when I was at OU), it seemed like the MAC was a lot better conference (sometimes we got two bids to the NCAA and it usually seemed those teams were respectable enough to at least get respected as someone capable of pulling a win or two off) than now. Right now, we're getting one bid a year and that team seems to be considered on the lines of all those other anonymous one-bid-conference teams.

I complained all season that the MAC as a conference did not have one decent OOC win. All that changed today. Ohio U. looked awesome! Now if they can just beat Tennessee on Saturday.

Kent also has the chance of getting a good win. We play at Illinois next Monday. Hopefully that will give the MAC another quality win.
  • FairwoodKing
If Norther Iowa can beat the number one ranked team in the country, someone please explain to me how the entire MAC only has had one quality OOC win this year. Surely we have better recruiting opportunities than N. Iowa. No MAC has done well in the NCAA since 2002 when Kent made it to the Elite Eight. During the height of Kent's glory, we went through three head coaches in three years. This whole thing sucks.

The MAC season officially ended tonight. I was hoping that my boys from Kent would do a better job against Illinois, but we didn't.

Ohio U should be the team to beat next year. Kent losses a lot of seniors, so I am not expecting much from them. I don't know what Akron has coming back.

Ohio still has basketball stuff going on, as it looks like Armon Bassett is going to head overseas to play pro ball.

Seems that supporting his mother is one of his main motives; it's believed she couldn't make it to Providence because of working 2 jobs.

Best of luck to him! He'll make his way to the NBA.
  • SportsAndLady
    Well damn...that sucks haha
  • FairwoodKing
This helps my boys from Kent, but it doesn't help the conference. I thought players from Mid-Majors stayed for four years.
  • SQ_Crazies
Not when they have to support the family...shitty situation for him, I hope it works out. Personally, I think he'll find it way to the NBA, so he's got nothin' to worry about.
  • Heretic
It sucks we lose Bassett, but if that's the reasoning why, I can do nothing but support him and thank him for what he did this year in playing a huge role in getting my Bobcats into the Big Dance and past the first round as the lowest seed to win a game this year.

Best of luck to you, Armon!!!!

Bassett did declare for the NBA draft (hey, if you want to go pro, why not), but the chances of him getting drafted are slim.

Maybe he'll go D-league instead of Europe?
