2010 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament - Congratulations to the Ohio Bobcats!

Swamp FoxYou boys who have questioned my sanity about the Falcon prospects down the road may well have some good points. I agree that there are some people who will be leaving this year that they will have to replace, but I think a culture of winning is strong in BG and the incoming additions will feel it and go with it.
I guess I just like the approach that Coach Orr is using with his kids and it seems that by and large, the results thus far have been positive. I would agree that there may be "Miles to go before the Falcons sleep....." (with apologies and thanks to Robert Frost for his immortal poetic work), but that there is at least the suggestion of a pretty nice MAC future in the next several years. -
ts1227Toledo is on a completely different level.
But OU and WSU both played poorly yesterday and it was a rough one to watch. -
FairwoodKingThe MAC is down this year. The entire conference combined didn't have one major OOC victory. The closest we came was the loss Miami had against Kentucky.
Unless someone comes along and upsets them, Kent will probably make the NCAA and Akron will be in the NIT. I imagine it will be one and done for both of them. -

Basketball Prospectus pretty much echoed this in their breakdown of this past weekendFairwoodKing wrote: The MAC is down this year. The entire conference combined didn't have one major OOC victory. The closest we came was the loss Miami had against Kentucky.

FairwoodKingKent and Akron both won today. I don't think anything will be settled until they play each other next week. And then, of course, is the conference tournament.
-
fictionKent is getting relatively close to playing its way onto the bubble. If they were to win out, then lose in the tournament championship, they would be 25-9, 13-3 in conference. Their RPI is currently 49, SOS is 98. The back-to-back losses to Miami and BG in the middle of the season might do them in then, though.
-
FairwoodKingKent needs to win at Akron Friday night. If we do, and if we make a run in the tournament, there is an outside chance that we could get in if we don't win the tourney.
-
ts1227Seeing as how Kent State is stomping the dog shit out of Akron, the bracket looks to be set!
It's listed up top, with a poll for the tourney. -
davepretty sure my rockets have been saving everything for a run through the mac tourney and deep into the ncaa tourney.
-
FairwoodKingI was very pleased with my boys from Kent State tonight. We blew out a decent 22-8 team on their own court. If Kent plays like that in the tourney, we might do well.

You better hope so!dave wrote: pretty sure my rockets have been saving everything for a run through the mac tourney and deep into the ncaa tourney.
Based on their record, if they held back all regular season they should be a fucking juggernaut in the tourney hahaha -
FairwoodKingI know the final game in the tourney will be televised on ESPN, but will any of the lower games be shown on ESPN 360? I'd like to see them.

Quarterfinals and Semifinals SHOULD be on FSOhio, as they have been in past years, but who knows...FairwoodKing wrote: I know the final game in the tourney will be televised on ESPN, but will any of the lower games be shown on ESPN 360? I'd like to see them.
Ohio message board says ESPN360 should have them too. -
FairwoodKingThis has been a strange year for MAC basketball. In every year that I can remember, the conference has had at least a few quality OOC wins. This year there was nothing. Kent and Akron are the only two teams with good records, but neither is a lock to win the conference tourney.
I would be very happy if Kent swept the tourney and beat someone in the NCAA's, but I would also consider it a miracle. -
HereticI'm !!CALLING IT!! right now: THE Ohio U. will beat Can't State on Friday. They lost both regular season games by a total of nine points. Third time will be the charm!
VALHALLA AWAITS!!!!!! -
SQ_CraziesWe eat Bobcats for breakfast.
-
HereticThe game's at 7 p.m. and not being held at Denny's, so there's no 24-hour breakfast for the Golden Showers!
OU 74, Can't State 69
And yes...I will continue this sort of (admittedly weak) trash talking indefinitely. MAC basketball = SUPER-SERIOUS BUSINESS!!! -
SQ_CraziesIf we've been to the Elite Eight and we're Can't State--what's that say about the rest of the MAC? lol
-
Heretichahaha
Well, there's a reason we're a one-bid conference 9/10 years. -
SQ_CraziesI hope we make the NCAA tournament, because one thing Can't State CAN do is party--and last time we made the tournament, it was a hell of a party.
-
HereticI remember when a Gary Trent OU team made the NCAA tournament. It sucked because that coincided with spring break, so I wasn't in Athens for their 40 minutes of life in the Big Dance.
