North Carolina miss NCAA tourney?
-
september63I am pretty sure they have been in about 34 of the last 36 NCAA tournaments. 02 and 03 being the exceptions. They are on a path towards missing it this year? What do you think?
-
Laley23Getting blown out at home certainly wont help the cause, I know that much.
-
ironman02I hate to say it (or even think it), but unless something changes very soon, I can definitely see this happening.
12-7 right now, 1-3 in the ACC. There's a lot of work to be done to make it to the NCAAs, and the ACC, even when it's not really strong, is not an easy league to deal with when you're a young team. -
SportsAndLadyNow is the one time I wish that UNC poster, rowdy rider, was on free huddle...so i can make fun of his tarheels...not anyone else's tarheels, just rowdy rider's.
He's so god damn annoying. -
centralbucksfanUNC will ALWAYS get the benefit of the doubt with the committee because of their name, IF its even in question. I also happen to think they will eventually come out of this slump and be ok. They are young, and inconsistant. Still have some OCC quality wins as well. I think they will be in easily when its all said and done.
-
SportsAndLadyI think they're screwed...no guard play=done
-
Emmett BrownI just don't understand how this team was able to blow out OSU and MSU. I know OSU lost by 3 but they were down by alot in that game.

Just inconsistency of epic proportions. This team obviously isn't as talented as the Carolina teams of the last few seasons, but they are talented nonetheless. They're just really young and are relying on guys who have been role players in the past to step up and be the go-to guys. It hasn't worked out at all.Emmett Brown wrote: I just don't understand how this team was able to blow out OSU and MSU. I know OSU lost by 3 but they were down by alot in that game.
I can only hope that sometime soon, the team that had huge leads over OSU and MSU will return. Those two games, though, are a perfect example of the inconsistency I'm talking about. For parts of those games, Carolina looked like a top 10 team. During other parts, they looked like the team that has now lost three games in a row. -

ironman02Yeah, rowdy's undefeated guarantee brought a lot of heat to Carolina and its fans on the Huddle last year when the Heels started out 0-2 in ACC play. Glad that ended up working out well, but reading the Huddle was pretty rough for Carolina fans at that time.

Azubuike24Rowdyrider was a pompous ass who was knowledgeable but had no respect for the game. I could care less who people root for, what matters is we can all enjoy this great sport from many different perspectives. Discussing, learning and seeing it from many points of view is why I personally post on message boards. We could all easily watch games and look at scoreboards ourselves.
Unfortunately, there was no reasoning with rowdyrider to the point where despite him making some good points, it just wasn't worth reading. -
hoops23I mentioned this exact same scenario on the GTech-UNC thread.. This team is currently 12-7 and will be out of the top 25.
I've NOT seen this team improve, but rather regress.. The Guard play is TERRIBLE, the post play is shaky at best, especially when Ed Daivs isn't out there..
No real #1 scoring threat and no true perimeter threat = doom in Roys system. However, I'll gladly take a "down year" after 2 titles in 4 years. I know UNC won't be down long.
At least Roys "down" will probably = 18-20 wins and not a 8-20 season -

I honestly stopped going to the college bball forum because of him and a couple of others.. It was ridiculous to have to be on the same side as that guy.ironman02 wrote: Yeah, rowdy's undefeated guarantee brought a lot of heat to Carolina and its fans on the Huddle last year when the Heels started out 0-2 in ACC play. RiverRat13Carolina really hasn't improved much all season, which is amazing with how young they are. Thompson and Ginyard have proven themselves to be complimentary players, not the go-to guys a young team needed out of its two seniors. Graves is okay but on a "normal" Carolina team he would be getting about 10-15 minutes. Henson has been a huge disappointment. Drew has regressed. I like what I've seen out of Strickland and would like to see him play more. Davis and Zeller being out hurts Carolina. Davis is the Heels best player and Zeller is their second best post scorer. But Zeller's post defense is atrocious so it's not like the recent struggles can be blamed on his absence.
I would still be surprised if Carolina doesn't get it somewhat together to make the tournament, but that it is even a possibility is quite shocking altogether. -
HeelzI hope this does not happen but with the way they are playing now its a possibility. As said above they have no real scoring threat or "go to guy", not to mention sloppy play. I'm not giving up on this year and this team but it's getting ugly.

HeathAlum21I don't like UNC, and I am not a big fan of the ACC as a whole. However,it isn't good for UNC to miss the tourney. UCLA and Arizona are already going to probably be sitting at home during March. The NCAA needs its blue ribbon programs in the tourament, just as they need the big players in the NCAA tournament.
-
jpake1This is exactly why I called UNC the most overrated team to being the season. They don't have anybody that scares you as a scorer. I definitely thought they'd make the tourney. As of right now, I don't see them getting in. They can contend with anybody on any given night because they can still rebound very well. They played the tops teams pretty well. But, they just don't have the scorers needed to be consistent for ACC type play. I definitely won't tell Roy how to coach. But if I were a coach with this type of team, I'd definitely be playing the tempo that Wisconsin usually plays. They simply don't have the horses to run this year. They do have the horses to slow the game down.
-
centralbucksfanDon't underestimate they talent that they do have. Its young, and youth can go thru tough stretches. But this team is still talented. And, they already have some quality wins as well. Don't count out talent as well as one of the better coaches in America.
-
september63Dan LeBetard just says 80% chance UNC misses the tourney. For what thats worth!!
-
k_boogyRoy Williams has never missed the NCAA tourney, other than his first year at Kansas which they were ineligible due to NCAA violations. So Im not betting against big Roy just yet. This team is young yes but some guys need to pull their heads out their asses and come to play. I agree with jpake talking about slowing the game down. This is where I swear half of Drews TOs come from, from him trying to do to much in the open floor.

Only a self-proclaimed "BAMF" would have the balls to post that on this thread after his team just got hammered by State. You better hope that K doesn't find a way to lose his fifth in a row in Cameron to this lowly Carolina team. -
ts1227The NCAA squeezes in as many Big East and ACC teams as they can get away with every year.
They'll make room for UNC. -

ironman02This thread just became even more relevant tonight as North Carolina decided not to show up at home against UVA, losing 75-60.
Absolutely PATHETIC performance. UVA shot over 50% from the field, 41% from three point range, and hit 14 of 18 free throws. Meanwhile, Carolina shot 35% from the field, 11-22 from the FT line (which is just inexcusable), and committed their customary 17 turnovers.
After a seemingly solid win at NC State, I was beginning to think that this team might be able to turn a corner and get things going. I was dead wrong. Trailing 35-32 early in the 2nd half, Carolina allowed UVA to go on a 18-0 run (which is almost and every-game occurrence) and blow the game wide open. They now sit at 13-8 with several tough road games left on the schedule, and of course, two games with Duke. Couple that with the fact that they've lost three straight ACC home games, and I just don't see where the wins would come from to get them into the NCAAs. Right now, I would say there is absolutely no chance that this team goes 8-8 in ACC play (they're 2-4 right now), and that most likely means NIT.
Ed Davis and Deon Thompson (you know, the strength of this team) combined for only 11 points tonight.
Marcus Ginyard, probably because he isn't healthy, looks like he doesn't belong on a college basketball roster.
Drew and Graves played fairly well, as they were the only two Heels in double figures, both scoring 15 points.
The freshmen didn't do much, but that's because they weren't really given the opportunity. I'm beginning to think that Roy should probably just let those five guys play more minutes since the veterans on this team have been massive underachievers during ACC play. -
hoops23I'll enjoy my 2 titles in the last 4 years. This has been a disappointing season.
