This is why I do not like Urban Meyer.

If his health issues were that pressing he wouldn't still be recruiting and he'd actually be taking his leave seriously. His health issues only popped up after Alabama kicked their teeth in in the de facto national semifinal. Meyer is a fantastic coach but the dude has to be in the news and once the best preseason team in college football history was relegated to playing Cincinnati and not even winning their conference he suddenly became sick as fuck. Last we heard he was waking up in the middle of the night rolling on the floor with chest pains. Now he's having a great nights sleep dreaming of dying on the sidelines. Sweet.

This is going to turn out to be a big, fat lie and Meyer is going to have had nothing to do with it. It just doesn't smell right (more like an Internet rumor).

That said, Meyer is a documented liar, already. He's either too sick to coach or he's not. You can't have it both ways (he's trying though). Also, he blatantly lied about his trip to the hospital after the Alabama game; I don't care what his reasons supposedly were.

sounds like a whole lot of sour grapes

Ya know, this is a legitimate question because of this is a buckeyes forum essentially. For me personally I don't get into recruiting but so I had no idea who this kid was but I do know recruiting is sketchy and I would hope no one from my favorite State U would make a statement like this to a kid because you're messing with his head.

Meyer gives his reason about the hospital story in the first question here. 1:45 to learn for you

That is a great recruiting tool. " I will die coaching you." Let's see how many Head Coaches will have some sort of a "spell" next year after their bowl games.

If this is true, then I blame Shariff Floyd more than I do Urban Meyer. It's kind of a weird thing to say, but that's how many coaches play the recruiting game...say whatever you can to get the kid to commit, whether you mean it or not (maybe Meyer actually means this, but I can't say for sure).

Anyway, it appears that Floyd was a solid OSU lean until this comment. You would think if he had a good relationship with Tressel and the OSU staff, and was ready to commit to the Buckeyes, he wouldn't let a single comment get in the way of that. As someone said earlier though, it probably really hit home with him since none of his family has cared enough to be a part of his life in the past. Meyer knew what button to push and used his psychology degree to perfection in this case.

It may be unorthodox, immoral, or just plain wrong, but it got the job done...again. I don't like it, but it worked.

FWIW, Floyd completely denies that this was ever said. Supposedly this rumor was started on a South Carolina message board, but Floyd apparently believes that people are trying to "get back at him for not going to Ohio State".

Maybe he promised to put Floyd in his will.

Like calling 3 timeouts at the end of the UGA game a year ago, as revenge for UGA's on-field celebration the year before. All this after repeatedly saying that that (UGA's celebration) was done with and not a motivational factor for Florida. Calling those timeouts made Urb look like a juvenile jackass, the likes of which I would expect on this site and not as head coach of a major D-1 program.
It was 2 timeouts, haha. I really hated to miss that game, I was at the World of Outlaws World Finals in Charlotte that weekend.

"Florida coach Urban Meyer managed to restrain his players but not himself. He called two timeouts in the final minute to prolong Georgia’s agony.
If he hoped to rub it into the faces of Dogs’ fans, the joke was on him. They had already left."

Yeah, lets blame the 17 or 18 year old kid (with no major family influence) that the pile of shit middle aged man lied to him. You're right, what urban Meyer did was so ethical, damn kid, he should have seen right through the manipulation.

Ok, just take one sentence of my post, disregard the rest of it, and blow it completely out of proportion. I specifically said that Meyer completely pushed the kid's buttons, and took advantage of the fact that he doesn't have a strong family presence. At the same time, it was foolish of Floyd to fall for that. That was my point. He has heard all kinds of comments from several coaches, was leaning toward OSU, and then changed because of this specific comment by Meyer? It doesn't seem like he thought that through at all. And by the way, I'm not defending what Meyer supposedly said. I even said in my previous post that I didn't like it. As a Buckeye fan, I wanted to see Floyd in Columbus. The fact remains though, that somehow, Meyer got him to Gainesville instead.

It doesn't matter anyway, because he says it isn't true. This statement from Floyd has been posted on several recruiting sites. Maybe I shouldn't have included the comment about "people from Ohio State getting back at him" because I don't know that this information is 100% true, so that's my mistake. Here's the quote anyway, along with the link for ytown, which I should have provided earlier.

    http://florida.scout.com/2/938128.html

"I read those comments and when I did I immediately spoke with my head coach Ron Cohen. Coach Cohen told me that it was not true at all and nothing like that was ever said. I immediately called Urban Meyer to let him know what was being said on the internet. I wanted to let everyone know that this is total and false information. I never said that to my coach because it did not happen and my coach never said that to anyone. I am going to the University of Florida because that is where I want to go. I have a great relationship with Urban Meyer and I am a Gator. A lot of schools tried to hit me with the religion pitch but not Florida, not at all and that's how it is and I am not going to change my mind. I have talked to a bunch of my friends and they think this is something that started on one of the Ohio State boards. People are trying to get back at me for not going to Ohio State and not going to their team but I know what I am and that is a Florida Gator."

So does this mean USC (So Car) fans were so mad at this kid not going to tOSU they made this up or does it mean OSU fans infiltrated Gamecock Land to perpetrate this rumor?

Like most of you, I don't like UM. Yes, he a damn good coach, but something to me says "fraud" about the guy. If Floyd wasn't completely sold on being a Buckeye, then perhaps the OSU staff didn't do a good enough job in selling to him. Meyer swooped in like a vulture picking on road kill and closed the deal. I think he's a scumbag, but a silver tounge scumbag.

too much work. i'm going to blindly support my previous statements and ignore any logic or reason

Now you're getting the hang of this message board stuff.

South Carolina was one of the final possibilities for Floyd also. There were rumors that they would be the "surprise" pick on the day of the Army All-American game.

I don't know for sure which board the "dream" rumor originated from. It could have been South Carolina, Ohio State, or somewhere else. I'm sure each fan base will deny it, so I don't know how anyone would truly know for sure.

Silly me, but I didn’t realize God was a Gator.

But apparently he is based on comments from Sharrif Floyd’s high school coaches about what went down in the final few days before Floyd announced his college choice on national TV last Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American game.

As we all know, Floyd picked Florida.

Now we’re starting to find out why.

According to Floyd’s coaches, he was set to pick Ohio State until he spoke with Meyer on the phone. That’s when Florida’s coach, desperate to rein in the nation’s top defensive tackle prospect, went “all in” with the religion card. Here’s what the coaches said:

“Sharrif was really confused and put a call into Coach Meyer. When they spoke Coach Meyer told him that he had a ‘dream’ the night before, and that Coach Meyer saw himself on the sideline coaching Sharrif. Told him that is was a "message from God that I should come back and coach, as I guess if it’s my time to die, I'd rather die on the sidelines coaching you than anywhere else in the world.

"Sharrif talked to us the next day and said Ohio State is great and all, but Coach Meyer said he would DIE for me. That's pretty intense. From that day on Sharrif mainly kept to himself. But that was the turning point in my eyes."

Did Tebow turn Meyer into a religious nutjob or was he already there before Tim? That is a really queer thing to say to a recruit.

I agree you can use any legal method you want to get a kid to come play for you, but it doesn't mean he's not a freakin whackjob.....
