  Silly me, but I didn’t realize God was a Gator.
  
  But apparently he is based on comments from Sharrif Floyd’s high school coaches about what went down in the final few days before Floyd announced his college choice on national TV last Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American game.
  
  As we all know, Floyd picked Florida.
  
  Now we’re starting to find out why.
  
  According to Floyd’s coaches, he was set to pick Ohio State until he spoke with Meyer on the phone. That’s when Florida’s coach, desperate to rein in the nation’s top defensive tackle prospect, went “all in” with the religion card. Here’s what the coaches said:
  
  “Sharrif was really confused and put a call into Coach Meyer. When they spoke Coach Meyer told him that he had a ‘dream’ the night before, and that Coach Meyer saw himself on the sideline coaching Sharrif. Told him that is was a "message from God that I should come back and coach, as I guess if it’s my time to die, I'd rather die on the sidelines coaching you than anywhere else in the world.
  
  "Sharrif talked to us the next day and said Ohio State is great and all, but Coach Meyer said he would DIE for me. That's pretty intense. From that day on Sharrif mainly kept to himself. But that was the turning point in my eyes."

  So you hate Urban Meyer because he said whatever it would take to get a recruit Ohio State wanted. Welcome to big time college sports. Everyone does that.

  No... I just think he crossed the line. It is fine to use your religious views in recruiting, but telling a kid that he will die coaching a kid and that it was all a messege from God is crossing the line. To me he is crossing the line as well when using his "heart condition" excuse to say he might die coaching Sherrif but he doesn't care if he does.

  I think it's more of a moral thing. He went on National TV and said he needed a break to get his health and family life back in order. Seems like he'd rather die coaching a kid he barely knows other than spending time with the ones he loves. Slight deviation if you ask me.

So the time to take care of it is now although we’ll start dealing with it more specifically after National Signing Day. We’re actually already dealing with them in some respects and he’s already getting better, but after we get through recruiting, he’s going to recharge, take some time away, spend time with the family --- how’s that for a concept? --- and figure out what he needs to do to make all this work.   They had no clue what he was about to tell them just after Christmas. But on the first day back after the holiday, Marotti, Steve Addazio and even Tim Tebow noticed something different about Urban at practice.
  “Coach Mick, something – something – is wrong,” Tebow said. “Coach must really feel bad. Something’s up, something’s up. You’ve got to talk to him!’
  
  Meyer and Marotti were almost always the first two on the practice field, exchanging thoughts and going over plans. When it was time for calisthenics to begin, there was a ritual: “All right, Mick,” Urban would say, and that signaled the beginning. Only on this day it was different.
  “This time he just looked at me and pointed like, ‘Go ahead,’’’ Marotti recalled. “And I knew something was up. Steve (Addazio) and I both knew something was up, but we didn’t know what it was. He was real quiet. Then he called us in after practice and that’s when he told us he was stepping down.”
  
  There was a workout scheduled in three shifts beginning at 5:45. But after the bad news of the day before , Marotti dreaded the thought of having to chase players because “nobody’s going to show up – it’s going to be like pulling teeth.”
  Much to his surprise that wasn’t the case. And right there was the first clue that this 2009 team had learned all the lessons about work ethic, commitment and finishing the job. The leadership among these players came shining through and inspired the coaches.
  
  As only Marotti can do, the way he does to players in the weight room, when he gets them fired up, he began to work on Urban. Mickey’s favorite subject is always “The Program.”
  “I just kind of pumped him up about ‘The program,’’’ he said. “I didn’t know what was going to happen. Like, ‘Gawd, man, five years. What we do! Program! Look at that, two national championships. SEC. Heisman trophy winner. We do things different.’ We just started talking like that and all of a sudden he started getting a little juice back. He’s like, ‘Yeah!’”
  As they talked, Marotti could see Urban rocking back and forth, and he knew his head coach was getting into the rhythm and flow of the moment.
  “I think I turned up the flame a little that was already burning inside him – he’s a football coach. And, I don’t know, he got on the phone and started practice and that was it.”
  
  That phone call had been to Foley and plans to work out the details of Urban’s leave of absence began to fall in place – although Marotti didn’t know it. Shortly thereafter, Foley summoned Addazio to his office and asked him to accept the role as interim coach. Without flinching, without asking for a title or more money or a new contract, Addazio looked Foley in the eye, square-jawed, and said yes to the assignment, agreeing to turn down an interview as head coach of Central Michigan so he could accept it.

  Definitely a weird thing to say to somebody. That would have creeped me out if I was Floyd. I would have run from him. But hey to each their own I guess.

  This has nothing to do with osu, um, etc. The issue is a college coach tugging at a recruit's heartstrings by using religion, some made-up dream, and his personal health concens as a recuiting tactic. Incredibly shady to me.

  You would be surprised what is told and promised to kids to attend any college.
  Kids pick schools because of weird reasons.
  
  If Floyd is happy at Florida, I hope he has a great career. Lord knows he has had a struggle in life and deserves it.

  You are right. This kid has leaned on his High School football coach and teachers to get through high school. He is a young kid vunerable kid and the things Urban said will affect him differently than the average high school kid.

  Urban Meyer is a great coach and all, but some of his antics don't line up with his supposed beliefs and having a positive effect on young men.
  
  Like calling 3 timeouts at the end of the UGA game a year ago, as revenge for UGA's on-field celebration the year before. All this after repeatedly saying that that (UGA's celebration) was done with and not a motivational factor for Florida. Calling those timeouts made Urb look like a juvenile jackass, the likes of which I would expect on this site and not as head coach of a major D-1 program.
  
  That and he has a habit of running up scores and throwing deep passes late in blowout games. I know that's a debatable subject, but he has pissed off many objective observers when it comes to that.

  You really have to call in to question the soundness of mind that such bs draws a kid like Sharrif in. If some hocus pocus noise about dreams and other nonsense is able to sway this kid then he's probably not somebody we want at Ohio State.

  Maybe he really did have a dream about Floyd. Have any of you gotten so involved with your job or stresses with your current job situations that you have dreams about it? You never know..although Floyd is just as bad/dumb if he did bite and this was the sole reason for committing to the gators.

  No doubt this happens all over the place. That being said, while I think UM is a really good coach, I just don't feel he's this 'saint" that he trys so hard to portray. IMO, this whole I'm done / I'm back scenario stinks to high heaven. Something about this guy just says "fake" to me. I for one will not be a bit surprised if this incoming class has a new HC at UF before their 3-4 years are over.
