Evan Turner vs. Jimmy Jackson

  They are currently having this debate on on the radio (97.1 the fan). Ricordati said Turner is better because he averages more rebounds, assists, and is doing it with less talent compared to when Jackson was with Ohio State. So I thought I bring this discussion to Free Huddle!

  A case could be made for either.
  
  Honestly, prior to this year, Turner had some flaws that really stood out to me. But he has improved tremendously every year and has really looked good at PG with the ball in his hands.
  
  The thing that impresses me the most is the lack of talent around him. Turner is asked to do absolutely everything for this team, and I really don't know how he would respond to have a legit wingman. OSU has no post presence, so everytime he gets in the lane he's seeing bodies flying at him, and as good of a shooter as Diebler is, teams are still helping off him to try to slow down Turner.
  
  Because I don't remember Jackson as well, I have to say Turner.

  I was listning to 97.1 The Fan today and one of the idiots on the show was trying to compare Jimmy Jackson to Evan Turner....Are you serious....I just can't compare these 2.

  Yeah, this isn't a good comparison at this time. JJ was an elite hs player coming into OSU and left an elite college player. Now If Turner continues to play at this level, he may be in the same sentence as JJ. If he would get POY this year and return for his senior season, he would be right there, maybe even better.

  Well im sure you can pretty much forget about Turner coming back for another year. The only thing that can keep him is next years recruiting class and the prospects of going to a Final Four. I think Turner does more with less but I really cant make the comparison as I was only 11 or 12 when Jackson played so I really wasnt aware of what I was watching.

  Big Ten Network did a piece on the top ten players of the 90's, Jackson was #2.
  
  Overall I might have to go with Turner but Jackson was waaaayyy more explosive. Tough call for me.

  I want to here reason why people would pick Turner over Jackson? I think it is crazy to even put Turner's name in the same sentence, nothing against Mr. Turner he is a great player and I am not taking anything away from him. Jackson was just so dominating....

  Bob Knight once stated: "Jimmy Jackson is the best Big Ten player I have ever seen". Yes, in fact he did. JJ was a flat out stud from the day he stepped foot on campus. JJ may not have put up the stats that Turner is currently doing.....but he was CLUTCH in BIG games. He had St. John arena rocking like it hadn't been in YEARS. If not for UM cheating....he would have taken a top 5 OSU team to a final four.

  Love Turner's game, but no way.....Jackson had more talent around him and still put up great numbers.

  Uh, yes in fact he did. And it could have been "one of the best", which IMO, he is. Right after Jackson/OSU team beat IU in double overtime Knight said this. Not sure how old you are...but I am and was old enough to remember the quote after that game. He in FACT did say this.

  Knight after a double OT loss is liable to say anything, I don't remember him saying it but I don't doubt it for a minute.

  Im not saying that he didnt say that....im saying that hes not the best player in history of the big 10

  For those of you too young to see JJ in college....well you missed a darn good player. Evan Turner has the great length and steady all around game....but for my money.....JJ was better.

  JJ was a much better all around player than Turner. He handled the ball and passed better than Turner who I think is really sloppy with the ball but OSU asks him to be something he's not (a point guard). Turner probably is a superior scorer but JJ did not have to score like Turner does on this team to win so that's debatable. Turner is good but I think Jackson was better.

  JACKSON WAS WAY BETTER NOT EVEN CLOSE.......Most of you got to watch Jackson when you were what 5, and didnt understand the game....

  Bad comparison. Jimmy Jackson, the pride of Toledo Macomber Vocational, was as thrilling and productive as it got on the college level. I think it was CBF who pointed it out, but Bobby Knight, the greatest college coach in the history of the sport, did once call Jackson the greatest Big Ten player he ever saw. That's unbelievable praise coming from a man who played alongside two of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players, Jerry Lucas and John Havlicek, while playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 1960s. (Lucas was even named to Sports Illustrated's all-time college starting five a few years back.)

  Evan Turner isn't even as good as Michael Redd.

  Not sure about that! I won't say Evan is better, but this would be a legit debate. Redd had the chance to be the "man" and the buckeyes went 8-23. It wasn't until Scoonie got there that they became respectable.

  I will say that Evan Turner is a better college player than Michael Redd. Turner rebounds better and passes the ball better. Neither player is/was a great perimeter shooter in college, but Turner is a better finisher because he has more athleticism. Turner is projected to be a lottery pick, while Redd was the 43rd overall pick.That should tell you something.
