Houston just hired Major Applewhite instead of Kiffin.

Whoa, what do you have against Fickell? Other than choosing to start Bauserman over Braxton, as a DC I think he's pretty stinkin good.

Sounds like we could lose 2-3 assistant coaches. Hopefully that doesn't affect any recruits already verballed or deciding.

I like that hire for them. Keeps offense the same, and you don't bring in that giant turd Kiffin which is another win.

Jackson is garbage. He will be the worst Heisman ever.

To answer your question, the media latched on to Jackson from Day 1 and once that happens you secure the Heisman no matter what. It's extremely rare for a 'dark horse/unknown' to have a big season and win the Heisman that way. You need to be identified as the leader on Day 1 and have a mediocre season to win it.

Lane going to Baton Rouge then?

Agreed. The only time it didn't pan out that way was with Fournette last year. They all but engraved his name about 7 weeks in, then it went south in a hurry and didn't get it. The ESPN Hype-machine has a TON to do with who wins.

I agree with this. He has done very well with the defense. Not sure why anyone would be disappointed with him as DC.

That could be interesting. If that happens, then it's just because he and Saban don't really like each other. lol

Warriner rumored to be in consideration for the WKU job.

OSU gonna lose Fickell, Coombs, and Warriner? That would be rough.

Shiano's name still floating around too. Hopefully one of them takes Beck with them.

Seems like Strong is the main candidate for USF now. I guess if he gets that job, then Schiano just stays at OSU and is the DC possibly. If Schiano was hired at USF, then I would assume Urban would try to get Strong to be the new DC.

Also heard that Oregon has contacted Strong to be their new DC.

He is better than Crouch, Tebow, JFF, Weinke & Torreta.

For what they did in college I'd probably only take Jackson over Torreta and Crouch. Crouch was garbage.

Tebow and JFF?!? Oof. That's a stretch for me. Both were playing SEC schedule, when the SEC was top dog. Personal opinion, I'd still take them over Jackson.

JFF had two plays: Run around then scramble for a distance, Run around then throw the ball up to Evans who was the best skill player that year.

I'll make a correction; worst Heisman winner since JFF.

The difference is Manziel's Heisman team went 11-2 including a win over the #1 team on the road. Manziel and Jackson's stats are similar, but Jackson's team didn't accomplish anything, they end their season not only fading out of the playoff race, but out of their own conference race and out of the big six bowl race with back to back losses to end the season.

Now, we can all admit the Heisman candidates are very weak this year, but at the same time, the formula for coming up with "candidates" has been exposed more than ever this year. Is it best talents? Well, arguably the top 5 offensive players in the country in-terms of talent, won't be in New York. That's fine, is it best stats? Well, the guys with the best stats (Mahomes, Pumphrey, etc...), aren't in New York. What's the criteria? Seems like they are hedging their bets by trying to pick pretty good statistics from pretty good teams.

    It creates a bad race.

Deshaun Watson, Clemson - 12-1 record and in the CFP, 4443 total yards, 43 total TD, 616 total touches (passes and rushes)
Jake Browning, Washington - 12-1 record and in the CFP, 3346 total yards, 46 total TD, 410 total touches (passes and rushes)

Please tell me how Browning isn't there but Watson is?

Good question. I would say it has to do with pre-season hype, but I feel like Jackson didn't have a ton, did he? For Browning...playing out West and starting games at 10pm doesn't help. He's not flashy like Mariotta was either that make Sportscenter highlights. But I agree, he should be there...especially in place of Peppers.

Which is why the Jackson hype is ridiculous.

He touched the ball 616 times. That means the ball is in his hands to pass or run 51.3 times per game. You're telling me that with that usage and against the Louisville schedule that many other guys couldn't do that same thing?

Fickell has been named HC at UC. A formal announcement is said to come tomorrow.

Good for Fick. He definitely deserved another shot after taking over for Tress.

Hopefully, it stays with the team through the Playoff run.

I agree with this. I'd like to see him do well at Cinci and then have a shot when Urban is done. I feel like he was a loyal buckeye after the mess with Tressle, but he also did not look great in his one year as head coach so success at a smaller school would be good for him. I'm definitely rooting for him.
