You're crazy...that'd never happen. It'd make too much sense.superman;1816574 wrote:I think they need to go to 4 16 team mega conferences anyway. Have 2 8 team divisions in each conference. The conference championship games then become your national quarter finals. The 4 conference Champs make the playoff.
Only thing I'd change is make it a 6 team playoff. Have 2 at larges, the top 2 highest ranked conference winners get 1st rd. byes...3 plays 6, 4 plays 5 and make those home games for higher ranked teams. -

Too many non-conference teams left out for the "what ifs." See below. Have your 4 conference champ "Autos," then 2 at large, who can be anyone.superman;1816574 wrote:I think they need to go to 4 16 team mega conferences anyway. Yeah, I don't mind the mega-conference thing, but I don't want to just eliminate 75'ish teams from playoff contention. There'd have to be some sort of formula to be able to get in from an outside mega conference school.ernest_t_bass;1816587 wrote:Too many non-conference teams left out for the "what ifs." See below. Benny The JetI was just thinking a little more...if they did 16 team leagues, and only 6 playoff spots...why would anyone like Tulsa or BYU or some of the mid-tier teams ever want to join a league? There's no way they're winning that league and beating OSU, Alabama, Texas AM, Oklahoma, Washington on a regular basis...I'd take my chances staying out and getting the at large.

SonofanumpThe non power 5 should have their own playoff, TV ratings would be much higher watching a WMich v SFla semifinal than in the Bahama Bowl on some random Thursday night in December.

Pretty much this. As much as we want to say a non-power 5 team can win the title, the reality is they have no chance.Sonofanump;1816662 wrote:The non power 5 should have their own playoff, TV ratings would be much higher watching a WMich v SFla semifinal than in the Bahama Bowl on some random Thursday night in December.
IF they get into the playoffs with the current format, it's a big If they will be able to pull off two upsets in a row. The depth from a non-power 5 team just won't be there and I can't see one of those teams ever beating two top 4 opponents in back to back weeks. -

Start being kept out? The only reason Baylor and TCU didn't make it and OSU did was the lack of a conference title. OSU murders Wisconsin and moves into fourth.iclfan2;1816390 wrote:The Big 12 is dumb (I get it was all about money but come on). I hope they start being kept out of playoffs for not having a championship game.

As for expansion, I continually doubt it will happen with the playoffs. The tradition of bowls still matters greatly, 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 would have to be played on Xmas Eve to probably terrible ratings, and too early in the bowl schedule for these premier bowls to be had -

Didn't they kill the new years eve thing after 1 year? Playoff expansion will happen, it's inevitable. They'll work out the details, but it'll take something like SEC being left out for it to happenClassyposter58;1816840 wrote:Because the big bowls want to be on New Years Day or Eve -

Plenty of power 5 conference teams who do not belong in power 5 conferences (football speaking), and plenty of non-power 5 teams who fit better (football speaking). Houston (this year) is a good example.sleeper;1816677 wrote:Pretty much this. As much as we want to say a non-power 5 team can win the title, the reality is they have no chance.

Houston is garbage. They had a good start thanks to T. Herman but once he leaves they will be back in the dumpster.ernest_t_bass;1816865 wrote:Plenty of power 5 conference teams who do not belong in power 5 conferences (football speaking), and plenty of non-power 5 teams who fit better (football speaking). Compare Houston and Rutgers, sleeper. Tell me how Rutgers is better than Houston. I'll wait.sleeper;1816893 wrote:Houston is garbage. They had a good start thanks to T. Herman but once he leaves they will be back in the dumpster. -

In one year? Houston this year is better than Rutgers. Neither team would hold a candle to a team that finishes in the top 4 in any year and certainly would never beat two top 4 teams in consecutive weeks.ernest_t_bass;1816968 wrote:Compare Houston and Rutgers, sleeper. The logic works; welcome to reality. -
wildcats20The love affair that Brock Huard is having with Louisville right now is sickening.
Louisville has played ONE real team and lost. -
SportsAndLadyBama is really good.
Not saying that because they're beating an overrated A&M team (they're good but not top 6 good). They have a lot of NFL talent. -

Their d-line is fast, real fast. That Allen should have went pro last year. He is a beast.SportsAndLady;1817794 wrote:Bama is really good.

Play he made in the first quarter was so damn athletic and freakish.mcburg93;1817796 wrote:Their d-line is fast, real fast. That Allen should have went pro last year. He is a beast. -
wildcats20Refs don't call the obvious targeting on Bama on the kickoff earlier, but get this one.
Shocked. -
friendfromlowryAlabama gets away with a targeting but A&M does not.

The one where he jumped over the blocking RB and sacked the QB? That was an insane play lolwildcats20;1817797 wrote:Play he made in the first quarter was so damn athletic and freakish. -

wildcats20NO idea how this is only 13-0.
Bama is totally dominating. But can't get a knockout punch in.
