Great day for OSU: Heyward and Chekwa Return, Hankins Commits

  • devil1197
OSU will see Heyward and Chekwa return for their SR season along with everyone except for Gibson. This is great news for the Buckeyes going into next season.

The Buckeyes also picked up their 1st commit of 2010 in Jon Hankins 3 Star DT from Michigan.

Had to think about the "first commit of 2010" statement for a moment...lol...since they are ALL 2010 commits ;)

This is great news for the Buckeyes. With Heyward returning, Ohio State will still have enough depth and versatility on the DL to create havoc as they did this past season.

While many are sort of ho hum on Chekwa, it NEVER hurts to have that experience back at a key position.

Hankins saying he'll come is only icing on a very nice cake for the day.

Yeah, people may bash Chekwa but I'd rather have him coming back with a chance for younger guys to take his spot than throwing a young, inexperienced CB into action right away.

Will be a big weekend also for OSU. They have a lot of guys at the AA game with Floyd and Anderson supposedly making their announcement. It would be f'n amazing to get Floyd and Hankins along with Heyward returning, our DL won't miss a beat.

Yeah I gave Chekwa plenty of grief this season, but I have to think he'll be better than his potential replacement. Devon Torrence starts at the other CB and he has been very ordinary all season

This is huge for the Buckeye defense. I figured Gibson leaving was a foregone conclusion, but I was worried that OSU might lose a couple other guys. Glad to see that these guys will be back.

Oh damn. That means Jpake and I's bet is off now that Chekwa is staying.

That's too bad. That's what happens when you get bad draft grades (if any) from the advisory committee.

Are you implying that every junior who filed paperwork but didn't declare got bad draft grades?

Nope. Hence why I said "CHEKWA".

    ;)

Ya, I read the part where you directly mentioned Chekwa. That is why I asked if you were making an implication as to others, i.e. juniors not named Chekwa. ;)

    What was the bet?

He told me that if every single junior Buckeye would declare for the draft, they'd all be drafted easily.

I told him that Chekwa and Browning are not guarantees, and he wanted to bet that if they did get drafted, I had to leave this site for good, and vice versa.

I thought the terms were stupid as nobody should have to bet their right to voice their opinion somewhere, but he insisted.

Fortunately for him, Chekwa isn't coming out. I'm betting that Chekwa got a 6th-7th round grade at best, though.

Heyward is going to be a spectacle next season.

Heyward is making a huge mistake

Same thing will happen to him that happened to JL

What's that? Enjoying the experience of being a senior at Ohio State and then having a successful rookie year in the NFL?

Yeah, I know his stock could fall, but I think it's a pretty honorable thing to come back and not just split for the money.

    And that is?

JL is starting in the NFL going to be making millions. Having a great season also.

If thats a mistake sign me up.

What, he'll get drafted in the early 2nd round, and post Pro-Bowl numbers his rookie year?
  • Elliot Stabler
JL cost himself between 3 and 4 million dollas a year staying....and Heyward isn't as good as JL

No, because the 2008 draft class was strong in the first round, JL would have been lucky to have been drafted in the first then, as well. He certainly wasn't better than Jerod Mayo.

Nice to know you're as ignorant on football forums as you are on politics.

You DO realize that a premiere defensive lineman ALWAYS gets taken higher in the draft than a LB, right?

Unless Heyward blows out a knee in some horrific accident, he's a solid first round pick -- period. End of discussion. Hell, on potential alone he'd go first round.

On the other hand, linebackers fall in the draft ALL THE TIME.

As for the comment that Heyward isn't as good as JL, it's hard to compare folks who play completely different positions, but talk to me after Heyward's senior year. If he stays healthy, he'll likely be an all American and a finalist for every major defensive award.

Remember Heyward might actually lose money if rookie contracts come into play next year

Elliot Stabler....another blind shot in the dark? C'mon man, your respect is falling fast. Maybe the young man is more concerned with getting his education, enjoying his senior year as a Buckeye, having fun with his friends in college, and being loyal to the OSU program by coming back for a national championship run. In my opinion, OSU probably promised him the opportunity to achieve great success by coming to OSU and now he's returning the favor by providing his services in pursuit of a national title. There's more to life than money my friend....good to see this young man has a good head on his shoulders!

If anyone doesn't think that a Cam Heyward is a 1st round pick, you shouldn't even be discussing football.

Next year he will be what Suh was to college football this year.

I'd bet a lot of money that Heyward won't be invited to New York at the end of next year.

I'm on your side on the bet--but what I mean is he'll be the best and most dominant defensive lineman in the country. He isn't and won't be as good as Suh, but he'll take his place at the top and he really isn't THAT far behind IMO. Who knows how much better he might get in the offseason--that's always a variable that you don't know until September.
  • SportsAndLady
    Gotcha.

I think he'll be at the top of the list for best defensive players in the country, but I don't think he'll be as good as Suh was/is.

Yea i doubt it Suh is a once in a decade type player
