2016 NCAA Tournament Discussion

10 wins by double digit seeds in a single round is a tournament record, according to CBS.

No doubt. Hopefully the rest of the weekend lives up to it.

    Arkansas Little Rock
    Stephen F. Austin
    Hawaii
    Yale
    Middle Tennessee
    Northern Iowa
    Wichita State
    Gonzaga

All 11 seeds or higher still alive.

Also, the 2nd round games for #1 seeds (Kansas/Connecticut, North Carolina/Providence, Oregon/St. Joe's specifically) are all intriguing to me.

A lot of time you get upsets, but then blowouts.

I think some of these guys can compete in the 2nd game. They wont all, but between the group that advanced, you have some legit teams.

Wish we could have ended it with Cincinnati sending the game to overtime, but what a fucking day. What a fucking day.
Even back in 2010 when Hayward almost hit that game winner in the championship?

While that is impressive, we've been trending this way for quite some time - 6/7 seeds are big conference also-rans and I'd really prefer to see a second team from the mid-majors than the 7th best B1G or Pac-12 team...the 10/11/12 vs. 5/6/7 are basically coin-flips and have been for some time.

The first round is basically marketing - 4 teams seeded lower than 8 have made the Final Four the past 30 years. More or less it's rare for anyone below a 5 to make the Final Four.

I can see the newspaper now...

Awesome day of basketball. Not for my dead bracket, but in every other sense.

    Huggins after loss lol
"I don't know why anybody would waste time pressing us. We'll throw it to you. We're very charitable." — West Virginia coach Bob Huggins after his team's 22-turnover performance against Stephen F. Austin.

Ron Baker is still a little gimpy from the knee to thigh he took versus Arizona.

    Over on the women's side...

UConn leads Robert Morris 64-15 at the half.

Miami is just annihilating Wichita right now, 27-6.

This has comeback written all over it.

    Haha. Never fails.

Miami is already starting to press. The first few minutes of the second half will determine this game. If Wichita is able to cut the lead in half on the first few possessions, then panic will begin to set in. Miami needs to keep the spread about where it is.

Interesting breakdown of record in the 1st round of the tournament for conferences with multiple bids.

    ACC: 7 Teams (6-1)
    Big Ten: 7 Teams (5-3)*
    Big 12: 7 Teams (3-4)
    PAC 12: 7 Teams (2-5)
    Big East: 5 Teams (4-1)
    American: 4 Teams (1-3)
    SEC: 3 Teams (2-1)
    Atlantic 10: 3 Teams (2-1)
    MVC: 2 Teams (3-0)*

*Wichita State and Michigan won First Four games.

And here come the Shockers. Miami didn't finish this when they had the chance.

    Panic time.

Miami just too long and athletic in the end

Len Elmore is such a douche.

Clearly Baker and VanVleet were outplayed today, Len. Let's be a dick after they just lost their last game. Don't worry about the runs that they've made recently.

Dude's probably still bitter about not playing in the 1974 NCAA Tournament. He mentions it all the time.

ACC about to have two teams in the sweet 16. When Duke shoots like this, they're unbeatable.
  • Iliketurtles
    Grayson Allen is feeling it.
  • ironman02
I'm still confused as to how the #13 overall team (as ranked by the committee), which is the "best" 4 seed, gets sent out to the West Region. Seems odd that they're not in the South or East.

Once again, a complete cake walk to the Sweet 16 thanks to Baylor and the overrated Big 12. I'm gonna be the biggest damn Oregon fan in the world next week.

This is the negative of the tourney upset. These mid major teams come back to earth and we get awful games
