Bama's best win? LSU or Miss St
The committee finds a way to get everyone talking.....maybe Iowa 4 and Bama 5. Maybe Iowa #2
Won't really matter much as the top 5 will all definitely control their own destiny -
slingshot4everSo probably a Stanford/OSU Rose Bowl
-
ernest_t_bassNo way that an undefeated Iowa is out of the top 4.

wildcats20New Coaches poll is out...and yeah, I know, it's meaningless.

It's moo anyways. Mich St should be #2 with 3 wins over top 16 teamsernest_t_bass;1766382 wrote:No way that an undefeated Iowa is out of the top 4. -

Yeah tell me again why Alabama is #2? They've beaten no one and have one of the worst losses in CFB this year.Ironman92;1766388 wrote:It's moo anyways. Mich St should be #2 with 3 wins over top 16 teams -

No idea....should be behind Oklahoma as OK also has slightly better wins.sleeper;1766391 wrote:Yeah tell me again why Alabama is #2? They've beaten no one and have one of the worst losses in CFB this year. -
IggyPride00It will be a travesty and full blown miscarriage of justice if the Buckeyes get in the playoff at this point.
Even if Clemson loses they have 2 top 10 wins. If NC wins, they will have a top 10 win.
The Buckeyes best win is a top 19 team. It is just not good enough, and if they have a problem with being left out try scheduling someone. -

If UNC wins ACC, their schedule would be weakerIggyPride00;1766400 wrote:It will be a travesty and full blown miscarriage of justice if the Buckeyes get in the playoff at this point.

Dr Winston O'BoogieLet me ask ... in order for OSU to get in to the playoff, Alabama needs to lose to Florida and Clemson to UNC, correct?
-
IggyPride00
They would have the better win between the two teams, as well as having the distinction of having beat the best team on their schedule while the Buckeyes lost to the best team on theirs.slingshot4ever;1766408 wrote:If UNC wins ACC, their schedule would be weaker
Seems rather cut and dry. -

with 2 FCS opponents...those games are not included by the committee...so you could argue their final record is only 10-1 with a loss to an unranked SC teamIggyPride00;1766414 wrote:They would have the better win between the two teams, as well as having the distinction of having beat the best team on their schedule while the Buckeyes lost to the best team on theirs.

stanford could potentially jump OSU by winning Pac 12...I just don't see it happeningDr Winston O'Boogie;1766413 wrote:Let me ask ... in order for OSU to get in to the playoff, Alabama needs to lose to Florida and Clemson to UNC, correct? -
slingshot4everESPN thinks we need all three of those upsets to happen (Florida, UNC, USC)

Azubuike24Is Ole Miss a worse loss than Texas?
Also, Alabama's SOS is #5 according to Sagarin, while Oklahoma's is #20. They are 6-1 vs the top 30, while Oklahoma is 5-0 (Texas is #61).
...and Sagarin isn't based on polls or pre-season rankings or any of that, so there's no bias.
In fact, Alabama is by far the strong 1-loss team. Followed by Oklahoma, Ohio State and then Michigan State. North Carolina...well they are WAY down...and even with a dominating win over Clemson, I just don't see how they get considered. -

If the committee is more interested in who did you beat than who did you lose to the Buckeyes are screwed.slingshot4ever;1766417 wrote:with 2 FCS opponents...those games are not included by the committee...so you could argue their final record is only 10-1 with a loss to an unranked SC team
Michigan is their best win, and they are 19th in the country.
They didn't play anyone this year that was any good.
Beating Clemson (#1 team in the country) and winning the ACC would validate NC, and any concern about their schedule would fly out the window at that point. -

How is OSU stronger than MSU? To me that negates the entire argumentAzubuike24;1766432 wrote:Is Ole Miss a worse loss than Texas?

Azubuike24I'm just talking about how they rank resumes. Obviously it doesn't indicate head to head. Clearly the committee wouldn't see it that way...because there is a head to head match-up to use.
-

That is pivotal to their resumes though.Azubuike24;1766439 wrote:I'm just talking about how they rank resumes. Obviously it doesn't indicate head to head. Clearly the committee wouldn't see it that way...because there is a head to head match-up to use.
MSU beat OSU at OSU, probable #6 team, beat Oregon guessing #14 this week and then UM, guessing at #16
OSU has beaten UM, the guessed #16 team....the rest of the schedule maybe a slight advantage to OSU compared to MSU but the Oregon win is looking better and better and the head to head at OSU is the clear tie-breaker. -
Azubuike24I get that. Sagarin is computer-based. So obviously it's not an exact thing. Like KenPom in college basketball...it ranks your overall body of work, but it doesn't differentiate between head to head wins or having top end wins over balanced overall wins. Definitely a flawed system, but it's a great source when you want to get away from things like polls where clearly name recognition, conference, history, previous rankings, come into play.

9 wins vs teams with a record of .500 or better and 8 of those have came against teams from P5 schools - 7 vs SEC, and Wisconsinsleeper;1766391 wrote:Yeah tell me again why Alabama is #2? They've beaten no one and have one of the worst losses in CFB this year.
Compared to other top teams and their wins...
#1 Clemson has 6 (with 4 vs ACC, 1 vs ND)
#3 Oklahoma has 8 and possibly 9 with a Kansas St win this weekend, as of now 6 have come vs P5 teams
#4 Iowa has 4 (all 4 vs P5)
#5 Sparty has 8 (5 vs P5)
#6 Ohio State has 5 (3 vs P5)
#7 Stanford has 6 (5 vs P12, 1 vs ND)
#8 North Carolina has 5 (all 5 vs ACC)
