Ohio State Recruiting Thread

This Buckeye class has some good talent at the skill positions, just wished to see more than 1 OL guy. You're straight up high if you think OSU has filled the needs at OL. Unless they get 4-5 OL commits next season the depth at the OL spot will be thin especially if guys like Brewster go pro early.

Hopefully that comes today with Henderson but in the end OSU will be a Top 5 team next season and probably the season after that.
But when recruits see that OSU is thin at OL, they think playing time, so they would likely commit a lot easier than now, where they won't get any playing time until the loaded class above them leaves.

It'll all work out in the end.

I don't know if it has ever been discussed but what do you think the odds of the NCAA adding an early signing period would be? Or is becoming an early enrolled student the closest we will get to that?

They need to add an early signing period. Period.
  • j_crazy
how early? like december or July?

    why?

If a kid wants to end the incessant distraction of the recruiting process early, be locked into a school, and focus on his season year, he should be allowed to do so. An early signing period doesn't mean every kid HAS to sign early, it just means a definitive end to the recruiting process should the kid choose so. It's not like they haven't been recruited for years by the time their senior season comes.
  • rocket31
i am pretty sure the recruit is allowed to be *locked* into a school whether they are signed or not...

regardless, the NSD nowadays is highly influenced by the media, so the odds of it ever changing now are slim to none.
  • gorocks99
Nothing is official until they sign that letter. Makes it more efficient for the schools, too.

However, you're right on the media coverage -- ESPN likes having one day devoted to signing, and as such, it'll probably stay that way.

Completely agree. So kids flip flop on college choices, it happens, even to non football players.

I didn't decide on coming to OSU until after the deadline actually. I had a couple D2/D3 golf schollie offers I had to decide between, and I also had a tuition paid for by scholarship at University of Texas and had a pretty good scholarship at University of Florida.

You're talking about kids who one day might want to go to USC, the next they might want to go to Texas. IT HAPPENS. I think signing day should stay where it is, but I also think that fans, like some of the ones who are upset here, need a reality check when it comes to 18 year olds making decisions.
  • gorocks99
No one would force kids to commit early! It would just make it so they could do so if they feel it would be in their best interest. Maybe some 18 year olds need a lesson on what a commitment is, and how it's different than placeholding.

dummy it up for us--what do you mean by *locked*???

I'm torn. If a kid shuts his recruiting down now I assume he still gets calls from coaches and assistants. This could be a detriment to the kid because he's trying to study or stay focused on his senior year. The early signing gets rid of that. But I also don't see a HUGE problem with the way it is now.

    Humorous update on Henderson:

Bruce Hooley on 1460 said that WBNS 10tv here in Columbus was not granted an interview after Henderson announces b/c per Henderson's dad..."he ain't going to Columbus!!" Could be a huge smokescreen, but just thought I'd relay so everyone can find themselves a nice bridge to jump off of before 5 pm.

They are still talking about it right now on 1460...his dad said "Columbus? Why, he ain't going to Ohio state" Also, there are talking about reports out of Minny that his dad is a wannabe rapper and has been in contact with Snoop about his son coming to USC and helping him out with his rapping career. This shit is comical if true.....

Sean (Seantrel's dad) has denied the Snoop contact:

    http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_14313908
BS: There's a rumor out there that Snoop Dogg has told you that if Seantrel goes to Southern Cal, he would help you launch your rap career. Any truth to that?

SH: Emphatically, no. I've never met Snoop. I've never ever, ever comprised anything so that what I'm doing with my life has anything to do with Seantrel. I've never initiated a conversation about music into Seantrel's career at all. My career and music, and Seantrel's career never have been discussed. Three schools said, "You rap." They brought it up at the University of Florida. It came up this weekend at the University of Miami. They said they heard, "Blah, blah, blah." My mother saw it on the Ohio State Buckeyes' (Web) site. I don't know where it's coming from. I never talked to Snoop ever in my life. Nobody talked music and my situation. I've heard people say, "Oh, there are great studios here." I told Seantrel how uncomfortable that makes me. I'm not interested in combining my music with Seantrel's career. He has a tough decision. I'm just doing whatever a dad would do. I think people — because they're so concerned with (his decision) and there's so much emotion in where Seantrel is going — they want to find different variables of why he'd go here, or why he'd go there. In case he doesn't pick their school, they can say, "Oh, it's his dad." Or, "It's his mom and dad." It's his decision 100,000 percent. We don't want to cloud his decision-making process.

his dad is a wannabe rapper so I've been reading.
  • devil1197
His dad is a huge media hound and has been wanting the attention more than Seantrel which is unfortunate.
  • gorocks99
Yeah, his dad is an attention-seeker, that's for sure. Stage parent. I hope it's true that he's letting Seantrel make his own decision, but I have my doubts.

I have no doubt in my mind that his dad, unfortunately, has a pull in his decision.

that may be true, but wasnt USC leader while carroll was there?

I think it has always been mixed. That's why I haven't really bought into the reports on Henderson at all.

It's always been these teams are neck and neck type comments.
  • gorocks99
And there has never been indication one way or the other from the Henderson camp. Very very tight-lipped.

I honestly won't be surprised who he picks. It could honestly be USC, OSU, Minny, Miami etc.
  • SportsAndLady
I am 100% confident Henderson doesn't go to OSU.

Besides Pryor, when was the last time OSU picked up a top 10 player on NSD, when that player was on the fence? It just doesn't happen, and it won't with Henderson...he's USC all the way.
  • vball10set
me neither--IMO,it'll be USC..the only team I'd rule out is ND
  • gorocks99
I'm holding out my own dumbass hope that he signs with Minnesota. If he doesn't, I'll slip into a deep depression for weeks because I'm so sure of it.

    Or not.
