Proof of how weak..........

  • OldDanTucker
    the big east is.

    Florida-51
    UC-24

    FSU-33
    WVU-21

Also the fact that USF is tied 3-3 with Northern Illinois righ now. The only 2 wins for the big least so far this bowl season is Rutgers over UCF(sorry that im not that impressed) and Pitts(2nd best BL team) win over UNC(6th best acc team). The BCS needs to get rid of the auto-bid for the big east and give it to the MWC.

The Big East is getting beat on more than Notre Dame lol.

    Pitt beat UNC 19-17.

Pitt (2nd best in the Big East) beat UNC (6th best in the ACC) in a close one.
But your right the MWC is much better.

Oops forgot a bout that one.

After the top Big East teams went to the ACC (which hasn't been much better imo) they are right on par with the MWC.

I agree. The Big East was pretty good when it had Va Tech and Miami.

Big East got real weak when BC, Miami, and Va Tech left

I agree. The Big East is not showing well in the only platform that we have to judge them on. Which is playing against teams that are similar in their conference ranking.

This is why the BCS system is worthless. Turns out the computers and the coaches were wrong in their analysis of teams. UC, Pitt were over ranked by a great amount. Pitt and N.Carolina were about dead even in actuality. UC and Pitt were also even. Those are all tier 2-3 teams. USF was ranked this year until they took a few beatings but this boosted the perception of the Big East inflating rankings.

After the bowls are over it appears TCU has indeed played an extremely tough schedule but because of the system they did not know until the bowl games expose the conferences strength.

As has been proven time and again, this is simply false.

Since those three teams left, the BE has won 3 (3-2) BCS bowls. In the same time period, the ACC has won 1 (1-3) and the Big10 has won 3 (3-6).

If we want to go ahead and compare the overall bowl records we can do that also.

I don't mind the BE losing its automatic bid, but if if the BE does then so should the ACC. The Big East has actually met every single qualification to keep its bid. I believe the ACC missed it a couple years ago.

So if the OP is going to make claims like the BE should lose its automatic bid, then you should at least be consistent and apply it to other conferences also.

Perception wise, but not in reality. Those three teams have did relatively nothing in the ACC.

UConn beating SC will help the Big East. Is 7-0 early but I think UConn wins this game.

Agreed that will help but for the Big East to gain respect they need to win in the BCS games and need to improve their overal record in bowl games next season.

The Big10 and ACC need to improve in their BCS games to gain respect.

    Since 2005

    Big East (3-2)
    ACC (1-3)
    Big10 (3-6).
  • ytownfootball
    Why only since 2005?

    Big10=9 appearances

    Big East AND ACC=9 appearances

? the point is what ?

If you really look at that, it's more like 1 team from each conference.

West Virginia is the reason for those BCS wins, and OSU is 1-3 since 2005 in the BCS, making the entire Big 10 look like crap.

FYI, though, USF is up 27-3 against NIU. Let the game play out next time. ;)

Not that I'm defending the Big East, because aside from WVU, I think they are garbage. Although Pitt is showing promise.

    Really?

Then, why did the 2006 season finish with 3 Big Ten teams in the top 10, despite a NC game blowout of OSU?
  • profm
Speaking as an amateur statistician, the number of games played in BCS games is grossly inadequate to say anything about a conference, or an individual team for that matter.

OSU is now 2-3 in BCS games since 2005. They are 4-3 in BCS games under Tressel. They are 5-3 in BCS games since the system starts. The three losses came in a row, which made them look bad, but that really is a bad over-interpretation of the data available. If losing 3 BCS games in a row means that you are a terrible BCS team, does winning 4 BCS games in a row (which is what OSU did before losing the three) mean that OSU was a tremendous, unbeatable BCS team? Of course not, as subsequent events showed.

I'm glad that OSU got the (perceived) monkey off it's back with a BCS win. But if you look at all of the data, they've done pretty well in BCS games.

The recent data for the Big Ten doesn't look as good, but does it mean much? 3-6 in BCS games. If you add in OSU's win this year, it's 4-6. That's one game under exactly 50%.

You can prove almost anything if you are selective with your data and time frame. You could look at BCS games for 2 years, 5 years, 10 years or whatever. Or you could look at bowl games. Or you could look at non-conference games. Or you could look at games against rated teams. The number of choices are endless. The computerized rating systems generally use all of the data available, and are probably as good as you can get for rating teams.

Also a couple of the losses for the big10 were agaist U$C teams that would have crushed any Big East team(PSU last year and UM in 06). While the Big least gets its Bowl wins against Oklahoma teams that cant seem to beat anyone in BCS games and ACC teams
