It might sicken you but that's for you to deal with. Those that you say are "exploiting" got what they were seeking, entertainment...or "ego stroke". They get to choose that just as you get to choose being sickened.

    'Merica!
Con_Alma, please spend less time berating me for my own personal choices. I choose to call out fake fans for what they are. Part of being a fake fan is accepting the criticism involved with being a fake fan; freedom of choice does not mean freedom from consequence.

    I'll respectfully decline.

Have at it. Call everyone fake. It really doesn't matter if you deem them fake or not. What matters is they got the entertainment they wanted.

Just always liked them as a kid. I don't really have an answer for you, it's not like my answer is "on June 19th, 2001, I decided to become a Kansas fan.

Somewhere in middle school when I started paying attention to college hoops, I liked Kansas. That's all I got.

I like every team my dad likes, except I am an Indians fan and he is a random ass Braves fan (Milwaukee when he was growing up)

Other then that, no clue how I wouldve become a fan of anything...

Your reason is the reason why I am a browns/cavs fan, and a reds fan. Just how my dad was, so I rooted for them also. Same with OSU football.

I liked Dan Marino as a kid, so I am still a LOLPhins fan, but also rooted for the Bengals, since my dad did.

    Reds - Dad/grandpa
    OSU - Dad/family

Liked the Bulls growing up, for obvious reasons, but now I don't really GAF about the NBA.

I would ask you how the dolphins are gonna do this year, but this thread is about 2014-2015, and the dolphins will not be playing into 2015.

    BAM

Thank you for re-affirming that I have option of calling fake fans 'fake' as it corresponds to my duties in protecting the Ohio State brand and integrity.

I respect that you root for the Kansas Jayhawks, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes......you are true to each of those teams be it great or terrible....and you aren't a homer of those 4 but call it as you see it.

Now how much did you win Mon night?

The only three teams I have ever loyally rooted for in my life are the perennial world champion Indiana Pacers (Reggie Miller was my favorite NBA player) and the Miami Dolphins playoff dynasty (my dad's favorite team), in addition to the Duke Blue Devils (also my dad's team). As soon as my heros on the Pacers and Dolphins retired (Miller and Dan Marino) my interest waned considerably and shortly after I stopped following those teams altogether, especially after they stopped winning all those titles. As little kids I think specific players are generally who we cheer for the most, so it's only natural to lose interest if those players retire when you're still young.

There is no doubt, however, that fanhood is often passed down from father to son in many cases.

you're welcome. what you call someone has no bearing on their choices in sports entertainment.

I bet everyone here is jealous of the school I attended (well probably excluding Laley). Nobody else can claim that their school won a national championship in the most popular sport in the world while they attended it.

Well, IU never won a title with me there. But they were #1 2 out of 4 years.

I see both your point and S&L's point, but I've seen you take shots before at someone whose situation is like mine where I root for Kentucky in everything. Sure, I was born in Ohio, but have been a UK fan since the early 90's, did attend school there (although I did return to OSU for my final 2 years due to better academic opportunity). I don't have other football or baseball teams and other sports I don't really follow, but I will root for UK regardless just because I support the school.

You choosing to attend a third rate academic institution for two years is all the validation we need for your fandom.

Haha, probably shouldn't have gone there to begin with, but it sure was fun for the 2 years I was there. Message to future college students. Don't choose a school because you like their sports and attractive women (but it certainly doesn't have to be a negative).
  • GOONx19
    I'd recommend you do.
  • Terry_Tate
I went to Ohio State solely because I had loved their sports teams since the mid 90's because my Dad was a huge Ohio State football fan. Never gave one seconds thought to going to any other school. Just very glad they are a really good academic school, haha.
