Top NCAA coach?
-
ernest_t_bassOk. If you're a top tier school, who can get ANY coach they go after... Who is it? Who is your top coach(s)?
Izzo
Brad Stevens
I think K is a good coach, but I also think many coaches could have that success when you're at a college that has a program that recruits itself. -

Those coaches would first have to build that type of program.ernest_t_bass;1595206 wrote:I think K is a good coach, but I also think many coaches could have that success when you're at a college that has a program that recruits itself.
Today, Brad Stevens. -
Terry_TateBill Self
Brad Stevens -
SportsAndLadyBill Self is the only answer
-
Azubuike24You need someone still with a desire to build something great. Izzo, Donovan and Self are already established. Of guys around 45-50, those are the guys. However, I'd want someone younger. I'd probably go with Brad Stevens, but it's very likely he won't be available for at least 5 years.
Sean Miller would be my current choice. -

You can't discredit a coach for coaching at a program that recruits itself, as you say, if he built it.ernest_t_bass;1595252 wrote:No shit
Four national titles and 11 Final Fours is more than "good."
Sean Miller is another good choice.
If Duke's job opened tomorrow and anyone could be had, I'd write a blank check made out to Brad Stevens and have Sean Miller on call waiting. -
ernest_t_bassStill am baffled that Stevens went to nba.

I think hell end up back at a top college program in a few yearsernest_t_bass;1595263 wrote:Still am baffled that Stevens went to nba. -
reclegend22Age also should be taken into account regarding a question like this and Brad Stevens and Sean Miller are both relatively young, with Stevens basically a puppy in the coaching world. For their ages, where a program could conceivably get 25 to 30 more years out of them (easily 30 for Stevens), that's great bang for your buck.

sportchamppsIzzo All Day Every Day
I wouldn't mind Shaka Smart either just because his style of play is so fun to watch -
wildcats20I would start with Shaka. And pretty much end there.
Stevens would be 2nd, but I want Shaka. -
sportchamppsArchie Miller also probably be a good choice. Interesting that so many of these younger guys worked with Matta
-
KB0938Forgot all about Shaka, thats an excellent pick
-
wildcats20Also, are we considering it as of today. As in trying to woo a coach from somewhere else?
Because Bill Self, Izzo, K, Roy, etc aren't leaving the school they are at for another school. -
IliketurtlesBrad Stevens
Shaka Smart
Sean Miller
Bill Self -
ptown_trojans_1No mention of Billy Donovan?
He is certainty in the discussion. I would almost take him over everyone else. -

I imagine style of play is a driving force there, correct?wildcats20;1595268 wrote:I would start with Shaka. And pretty much end there.

That's the only thing that would be a drawback to Stevens, at least to me, because I like a faster brand of basketball, but I like winning more. I have no interest in Smart simply because it has always sort of felt like UNC was his dream job (although I'm not sure he's ever said that or not). -

I LOVE VCU's style. I think Shaka will flourish BIG TIME when he moves on VCU. Whether it's Carolina or not, I would hope it is. There really isn't another member of the family out there right now to take over for Roy(I think Hubert will be an EXCELLENT coach, down the road though); so they are going to have to look outside. And I think they need to immediately call Shaka's agent. Make it happen.reclegend22;1595275 wrote:I imagine style of play is a driving force there, correct?

Stevens will be back in college soon, IMO, and will also flourish at a big name program. -
sportchamppsI'm surprised cal isn't getting any love
-
sportchamppsWith cal your pretty much guaranteed a top recruiting class and a chance to win every year but he comes with baggage
-

I don't want him anywhere near my program.sportchampps;1595278 wrote:I'm surprised cal isn't getting any love
Also, a name(mainly because they are on now) that will start to get some major pub is Kevin Ollie. I don't see him leaving UConn anytime soon, but he can coach his ass off. -
sportchamppsI do like Ollie
