There are a lot of college athletes who graduate in three years and a summer, and it sounds like Kaminsky might possibly be a candidate for that as an engineering student (admittedly, I don't know how close he is to finishing or if that program requires more time).

But this kid is a future pro with a long career ahead of him in the NBA, so he's not going to be using that engineering degree for another 12 years. He has the combination of talent and size that just can't be taught. If NBA teams start showing him major interest and he thinks that his stock couldn't possibly be higher, who knows what decision he'll make.

I hope you are right, though.

Coach Cal is such a smug little prick. During his interview I really wish someone would just sucker punch him

No, that's Bo Ryan. Bashed UK all week and it continued after tonight.

No, pretty sure Cal is a prick in every single one of his interviews. Smug and arrogant as any coach ever has been

I can see how that is perceived that way, but the media has somewhat turned him that way. His approach to the media is to basically be sarcastic to any and all media members. He says a lot of what many people are thinking about the media, the NCAA, the NBA, etc...

Excellent observation..it was a terrible decision, but it went in. Sometimes you fall in shit and come out smelling like a rose.

Link to these bashings please? I'm not a Bo Ryan fan, but I find it hard to believe he bashed UK all week...just sayin'

Following that logic, Florida was the better team by 15-20.

    2 stupid shots, but

Also hit a contested 3 from the corner with 38 seconds left against UL.

Yeah...to me that was the biggest

Down 7 with a minute left to Louisville
  • reclegend22
Any chance the Harrisons turn pro because of those shots? Serious question.

I know Aaron made both, but prior to the NCAAs, I think most considered the pair a lock to return. Now not so much. Lots of discussion about the two bolting, especially with a win on Monday. I think Kentucky will lose pretty much everybody with a win. Sort of get that feeling.

It's depressing to see the OAD format back in action, but while I don't respect the guy, I do have to tip my hat to his formula, even though it's not my vision of what college basketball should be. But that ship has sailed.

They will be the Michigan State of this year in-terms of overall returning talent.
If they all come back, Wisconsin will be the favorites for the title next year. I think Kaminsky leaves though.

I'm not really excited for the championship game this year. I really wanted to see UF/AZ square off in the finals and even after the final 4 was revealed I wanted to see UF/Wisconsin.

I think Kentucky wins easily against UCONN.
  • reclegend22
Dekker and Kaminsky say they aren't going anywhere. So that should put that speculation to rest. Great for college basketball. I really believed at least one might consider leaving after the run. This makes Wisconsin one of the early national title favorites heading into next season.

Pot shots. Talking about "student athletes", doing it the "right way", how Wisconsin was very invested in "academics", etc. Did you watch his press conference after the game?

I mean I get it. It's just funny how Calipari was nothing but cordial and complimentary of Bo Ryan and Wisconsin all week. Then the first words from Trae Jackson was that he got fouled on the last shot? I have nothing against Wisconsin either.

    Examples:

During the Final Four media conference
"I tell you, the people here in this state are crazy about basketball. They realize they didn’t invent it like some other states believe"

"What I like about the Wisconsin fans is they understand these are student-athletes who actually are here for the purpose of an education first and playing ball second"

    Postgame Comments

I'll have to find a transcript, but he seemed very snarky and half-assed complimentary. The complete opposite of, for instance, Billy Donovan and his players. Both Donovan and Wilbekin basically came out and said all the credit to UConn for beating them yet again. Even a half hour after they got beat, ending a heartbreaking end to a very accomplished Senior class, they wee nothing but classy. Bo Ryan has 7 of his 8 top players returning next year and he seemed nothing but bitter and short.
  • vball10set
^^^It's all in the interpretation, Azu, but I can see where a Kentucky fan could take these as a diss of their school. However, I'd be careful to cast stones if Calipari was the HC of the team I followed
  • Laley23
Nothing Bo Ryan said is an insult, aside from
maybe the inventing basketball comment. Cal or any UK fan acting like they have student athletes or disagreeing with Ryan is an insult to the intelligence of America.
  • Azubuike24
I agree, and I actually enjoy watching Wisconsin and have nothing against them.

However, I'm not the first, nor the last, that interprets Bo Ryan as coming off like a complete asshole. Was he baited into those comments with the context? Sure. My point was, certain coaches (Calipari included) won't ever backhand compliment or diss another program or coach. He will certainly do it to the media, but not other coaches.

For instance...Tom Crean: "We do it the right way."

Yep, 3 guys who left early for the NBA the last 2 years and absolutely nothing achieved in 6 years as coach of Indiana. What exactly is he "doing?"

Of course not. However, even guys who only stay 1 or 2 years, they DO take care of what they are required to do academically. They DO stay involved with the university. Heck, some of the biggest supporters of the UK program are guys you would never think had any loyalty. DeMarcus Cousins, Brandon Knight, Anthony Davis, etc. Like many of Pitino's guys in the 90's, these guys are more loyal to Calipari than the program, but that's NOT just a UK thing. It makes me sick to see many of my favorite UK players under Pitino who are now still supportive of him and Louisville. However, if they want to get into coaching or use their connections, it's natural to follow the people who got you there rather than the company/school who you did it for.

Oh, and Laley, I read a few news blurbs the other day about Connecticut and academics. It talked about how they were banned from postseason in 2012 for APR issues and they very well could face the same in 2015. Yet, in the next day plus, which school will be all the talk about being the one that is not embracing "student athletes?" Haha.
  • Laley23
UCONN was a joke under Calhoun, no argument there. Ollie will probably be fucked by the APR and the transfers.

And I have nothing against guys who are 1 and done, I'd do it too. Lost are in good standing when they leave as well. I absolutely HATE the way Cal runs Kentucky though. Just because they are in good standing does not mean they are there to learn. But that's not even my issue. I just hate the fucking factory that UK has made themselves into. It's bad for the college game, IMO. This year is even worse than the Davis team.
  • Azubuike24
To change the subject a bit...because we could argue about the above subject all day.

If Connecticut wins, where do they rank all-time? Like Louisville, they will now be at a point where they have a Final Four AND National Title under a second coach. Louisville has 10 Final Fours and 3 national titles, Connecticut would have 6 Final Fours and 4 national titles.

Where do they rank compared to Indiana (8 FF, 5 NC)?

Agreed, it's almost laughable. Don't know how anyone can be a fan of that.

I like Ollie too. Loved him as a player. I got to hang out at the hotel during their run in 1995, met both he and Ray Allen (along with Calhoun) in their hotel. Don't forget though, he's a Calhoun cronie. There's no doubt he learned the "way" from Jimmy C.

With that said, I don't see how you as a knowledgeable CBB fan AND IU fan (or fan of any other program, really) can say that stuff? Sure, UK (and a few others, Kansas, Duke and UCLA) are the extremes. Every year they have multiple guys leaving early for the NBA and they recruit as such. Still, IU has had its fair share in the last decade since they made it mandatory to attend college. It's part of the game, and the ones who are the best at it invested early and will ride it until something changes. It's like getting in on a stock early on and bleeding it. For coaches to make comments about how "they don't do things that way" is great, but as soon as they have even a single guy bolt for the NBA or not stay in school to pursue financial gains, it becomes hypocritical.

Yet this comes from folks whose "teams" have also benefited from the very same system? How many one or two-and-dones has Ohio State had since the rule was instituted? Many OSU fans I know hold that '06-07 runner-up team in pretty high regard in-terms of likeability...and it followed with 3 or 4 more years of the same stuff. It's a very slippery slope as to what to and not to "respect?"
