MARCH MADNESS 2014 - NCAA Tourney Thread

Also, does anyone despise these generic courts? What happened to having some character with logos on the courts? Every one is a regular court with black trim and writing.

    HATE THEM

Have not noticed a single court all day.

I think they expanded the generic court to cover all rounds in like 2010? But yeah, it seems dumb and a waste of time and money.

Yeah, I have seen them before, but I guess I never realized it was every court at every location. But it is. All the exact same. Other than reading the name of the arena on the baselines or the city name on the side board, you don't even know where they are playing at.

I also hate the generic NCAA courts. I miss the days when teams would play in Boise on the blue and orange Bronco court and when Gonzaga advanced to the Elite Eight on the old purple Phoenix Suns floor. I also really enjoyed watching games played in Rupp Arena with the big UK at mid-court, even if Duke never played well there since Cat fans would eat up all the tickets and boo the entire time.

There just isn't any regional flavor to these games.

Greg Gumble said earlier that the NCAA first implemented the generic black-and-blue "NCAA" courts in 2008. I didn't realize it had been that long.

I cannot stand the way Louisville plays "basketball"

Unless the referees pretend the rules didn't get enforced differently this year, there's simply no way they can win 6 games in a row. Can they make the Elite 8/Final 4? Sure. I just think it's crazy to pick them all the way to repeat...

I think they were only at the regionals in 2008 and 2009, but that was the beginning of it.

Louisville's brand of ball sucks. They pushed, shoved and mugged their way to a title last year. It was a mockery of the game.

Duke played on a black-and-blue NCAA court in Washington in the first round against Belmont in 2008. The last five minutes of that game are seared into my retinas forever.

Ah, OK. I was curious and googled when I typed that, and I also found video of teams playing on NC State's home floor with an NCAA logo slapped on the center in 08. Maybe it was still mix and match?

That could easily be the case. I don't remember any of the other first or second round sites from that year.

Yeah, I think it started out as only a few arenas at a time. And then it was all of them, all of a sudden.

Texas is fucking starting to give this game away. Got damn it.

The Longhorns are gonna be stacked next year, though. A legit national title contender for sure if everyone returns.
  • reclegend22
Texas had a 61-47 lead. State led 55 to 39. Here we go again.

The NCAA is too strict on the courts being standard/generic. I can see adding some NCAA logos and some slight changes, but to require them to all be nearly identical removes the character from the arena. My earliest memory of watching college basketball as a kid is watching Dayton playing in the NCAA tourney at Texas. The only reason I remember that game in particular is because of the Longhorn logo at the center and the bright orange around the court.
  • reclegend22
Straight fuck Texas. I can't believe this is happening all over. There is no excuse for a team to lead by 14 after leading by double-digits the entire game and then hand the game away in the last seven minutes.

He did reach a Final Four with T.J. Ford. With the right talent, he's capable enough. He's also been to the Elite Eight on two other occasions.

I admit he's definitely not the brightest coach in the gym, but he's had some success.

Officials reviewing the monitor to make sure Cameron Ridley didn't foul the ball.
